I would like to thank all your tips, they were very special and helped us a lot on our trip to Istanbul. At the time we went, only the tickets were sold locally and woke up very early (we arrived at 07am) to get in line and buy, while my wife bought the ticket I stayed in the entrance line, everything went well and I recommend arriving very early to May the visit be quieter and without many people. Thanks again for the tips and I hope more people will sign your channel because it helps a lot to those who want to visit this wonderful city! 👏👏👏
Great Video - Planning a visit and this is very useful information. Couple of questions: Do you know if the second floor visit is available during prayer times or do they pause that entrance during prayers on the first floor? Second - You mentioned the opening time was off on the web site. Do you know if the web site advised 7:30 pm second floor closing time is accurate?
So glad you like the video! On Friday afternoon the second floor is closed for prayers but they do not close it for prayers on the other days of the week! Also the opening hours on the official website are accurate and 7:30 is the closing time for ticketed visitors. The inaccurate opening time we mentioned in the video is the time posted on the Get Your Guide ticket if you buy tickets in advance…the correct opening time is 9:00am but the ticket shows 8:00 for some reason.. 🤣
I’m so sorry to say but I would not choose to do this sight again. It felt like we had been scammed. We were told by the ticket agent we wouldn’t see anything if we just paid for Hagia Sophia so we got the museum pass with the Hagia Sophia. The fee is ridiculous for what you get to see, it is a beautiful Mosque but not worth 50 €. I’m so disappointed 😭
**Hi,** Do Muslim families need an entrance ticket to visit Hagia Sophia? We are traveling from abroad next month. Thanks! Also, what is the best transportation option for a family of two adults and three children (ages 10, 12, and 15) while traveling within Istanbul? How much should we load onto an Istanbul Card for a 4-day stay? ---
Our understanding is the Turkish citizens and foreign Muslims can enter for free on the ground floor to pray. According to the official museum site: Foreign nationality Muslims should enter the mosque's praying area from main gate.
We visited back in July. Turkish Citizens can enter the ground floor prayer rooms at any time. There are security guards that quiz most people as they enter through the barriers outside. I say most people, as I saw a few visitors stroll through without being challenged whilst the guards were distracted. If you look Turkish, be brave and walk pass the guards and give them a nod. 😉 The prayer rooms are open to all worshippers at prayer times. No ticket needed. Try to get there as early as you can for prayers as both the mens and ladies rooms were packed. As least they were for Zuhr prayer.
I'd put a minimum of 500TL, maybe 1000TL on the card. Thankfully the 500TL limit has been lifted. There's a vid on this channel demonstrating how to purchase and top up an Istanbulkart. Use the newer blue machine if you can. They accept card payment. The older yellow machines are picky when it comes to accepting bank notes and like to spit then out. I thinks it's around 17TL per trip on the trams. I could be wrong but it's in that region. So one trip for a party of 5 would use around 85TL.
Did you book through the activity provider we mentioned/ linked? We got an email confirmation immediately after we made our booking.. but I am not sure about other ticket providers.
@@WaypointofView yes I booked via the link you provided. Get your Guide did confirm but the provider is Istanbul E Pass and they say they will only send the actual tickets the day before our visit. Not sure why this is?
Yes of course you can use lira when you pay but they have set the price in Euros so they do not have to keep updating the price every month with the change in the value of the lira.

The link isn't showing that ticket option anymore? It only has 50 euro ticket

So sorry to hear that happened.. to be honest we have never been to the Hagia Sophia history and experience museum. 50 euros is a lot :(
Is Hagia Sophia open on Fridays?

I booked through Get your Guide for the Hagia Sophia. Is it normal that they only send us the actual tickets the day before we are booked to go?
