- My Christmas song for 2024, dedicated to the memory of Christmases past and loved ones lost.
Music & Lyrics : Fra Donaghy
Lyrics:
I remember writing Christmas letters and putting them in the fire,
Dressing up in school as a shepherd and singing in the choir,
Wearing matching pyjamas and posing on Christmas Eve,
Heading up to bed early 'cus we really did believe.
I'll write a letter to Santa, even though I'm 45,
I keep the spirit of Christmas dreaming well and truly alive,
I'm not asking for a miracle, no toys, no mountain bikes,
There's only one thing on my list so Santa if you like...
Please bring back Christmas, the way it used to be
I don't mean the presents 'neath the Christmas tree
If you could bring back the loved ones that we lost along the way,
Yeah that would be, yeah that would be, that would be,
The greatest Christmas day.
I remember my Uncle Phil rolled a snowball for a mile downhill
When he got to our Granny's street, well the snowball was at least 20 feet.
Then my Uncles Geordie and Bert, they were the local Santa Claus
We felt so special 'cus we knew who Santa was.
Driving up and down the street with BJ on our new bikes,
Playing board games with my cousin Gavin when he stayed here overnight
Oh I remember the year my Granda fell drunk into the tree
Oh how lucky we were to have such warm memories
Please bring back Christmas, the way it used to be
I don't mean the presents 'neath the Christmas tree
If you could bring back the loved ones that we lost along the way,
Yeah that would be, yeah that would be, that would be,
The greatest Christmas day.
I'm not even gonna wish for snow
I'm gonna cross my fingers and I hope you know
That we really wanna pour a Bacardi and Coke for Aunt Betty
If you could bring back the loved ones that we lost along the way,
Yeah that would be, yeah that would be, that would be,
The greatest Christmas day
Yeah that would be, yeah that would be, that would be,
The greatest Christmas day.
