The dev's of Outscape took it down from Steam early access, it is no longer available for purchase , nor free to play. Something about they can not finish the game without more funding, you can find the info on the Outscape dot net forums.

aye, but these games all pretty much look like the same old, same old. No real reason to get them if you enjoy what you already have in the genre. Except maybe the one that looks like an update to black and white.
It's difficult for indie titles to get visibility on the overcrowded steam store these days. Videos like this are great for highlighting games that people might have missed.
About the Age of Mythology remaster you mentioned, I believe when asked about it the devs said they "have something else in mind" for that franchise, so it might even be a sequel if we're lucky. It's hands down my favourite RTS ever :)
since we still have no info on Age of Empires IV I don't see a sequel for Age of Mythology anywhere near the horizon, unless is being developed by another studio
I love AOM, my only big issue with it was the settlements. I feel the game could have been so much more just by letting you build town centers anywhere. It just felt unnecessarily restrictive.
It's really hard for modern RTS base builders to hold a candle up to the golden age of RTS. Everything was novel, so iterating in a way that felt new but not overly complex was easy. With BFME, we had static castles and plots, which was then adopted by Halo Wars. With BFMEII, we had to manage territory because of closer mines diminishing performance, but we also got walls anywhere. Planetary Annihilation brought in multiple planets and world destruction. Empire at War brought in space and ground battles. Sins of Solar Empire introduced conquering via culture. But then sometimes we'd get classic emulations like Grey Goo. I had been hoping that Human Resources would get funded as that game was going to interestingly use humans as a resources that had to be harvested during the apocalypse, and introduce other mechanics such as terrain manipulation (to cut the map in half), however that didn't get funded. Supreme Commander was a biggie because of the sheer scale, the tactical map and the limitless unit cap. I believe there are some really interesting ideas out there, especially amongst indie developers and even big RTS fans who have no idea how to make games. But I'm afraid those ideas won't be brought into the limelight via AAA studios because these days the big guys just want to establish a single franchise and pump out stores with microtransactions, which don't necessarily jive well with the RTS base building genre. RTS players were siphoned over to MOBAs as the lack of innovation in RTSs stagnated and the widespread adoption of mobile gaming has reduced the available player base. Especially when the mini-games of custom RTS games like tug of wars and tower defenses spawned their own genres. The inundation of indie games has saturated the market with a lot of ideas, trash, and some great gems. As the tech becomes more accessible to the regular person, game devs are going to be fighting tooth and nail for playtime, visibility and attention. We need to cultivate some new passion with some truly groundbreaking ideas if we want to fire up this niche again. I think even a really well designed game with a classic RTS structure via a famous enough IP would be worth it. We've seen some executions of RTS games or RTS-like games with famous IPs with bad execution - Star Wars Commander, Star Wars Force Commander, Alien vs Predator Extinction. If we could get some big IPs to commit to a classic base building style, we might have some hope bringing in a bigger base... Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, LOTR (if EA could pick up the license again), Alien, Dune, Terminator, Mad Max, Planet of the Apes. These days I'm really only seeing military or historical style games trying to keep this genre going.
Total Annihilation is one of my favourite games of all time - beyond all reason looks to be the sequel I've been wanting for a long time. Humankind, Songs of conquest and Old world are the others that interest me most from this showcase.
@@drascalicus5187 all BAR models are made originally for BAR, ZeroK borrowed some of them. BAR started as a project to get rid of copyright assets from Balanced Annihilation, a common predecessor of zk and BAR.
@@drascalicus5187 I fact Zero-K uses models that were designed for BAR. This project started around 2010. So Zero-K is using models that were meant/made for BAR, not the other way around.
Try War Selection early access in the meantime until AoE IV comes out. Its free and its a good time killer. Just don't spam walls more than a screen, they're not cheap and quick to build.

I love strategy games! In particularly I'm looking forward to the new historical strategy game Humankind of Amplitude. This game has so much potential!
Has potential, but still very much a wait and see for me. Still, Civ VI was underwhelming, so that niche is wide open for a new champion. I love the map idea of Birth of Civilization. I really wish the genre would move towards fully 3-D globes.
I definitely feel like things are finally shaking up for the RTS scene but to be honest there would need to be way more titles than this in the works for a true rebirth of the RTS golden era which I could not wish for hard enough! :D

Ive been searching for some days and many games come close to city building and managing and thats all nice, but this one seems to have Tower defence included without you just being 1 hero and kill all. Im so thrilled now for this. Amazing for me. Build, manage, craft and army and towers defence. Incredible. Perfect

Great vid! I really hope Humankind ends up being good. The combat in the demo Amplitdue put out was fun. I wasn't a fan of the direction Firaxis went with Civ 6 and I'm happy to see other studios making a play in the historical 4x space.
There are more nibb of studios from blizzard, other than frost giants, but forgot their names. Great list btw, will defenitly check some of the games out

You might be interested in Nost-Kartrah: Emergence, it's an Age of Empires type RTS but with a medieval-fantastic inspiration. Its release is scheduled for the end of this year.
Diplomacy is not an Option, is also utilizing the Unity DOTS framework. One of the devs is extremely active on the Unity forums helping the community with that framework (Which is great, because there's few people to help there sometimes). So the game is somewhat innovative there, and the dev seems to be a stand up person.

Chosen undead, time must be convoluted in your dimension. How do you find time to play all the games you do? Are you finishing them or maybe just out a few hours in each until you learn it?
Let's not forget Dreamhaven alognside Frost Giant. They brought onboard a lot of ex SC2 staff as well as Dustin Browder, lead designer of Red Alert 2 and C&C Generals. Having 2 studio's also throws everything up in the air so it seems unlikely that they wouldn't make a strategy game, at least at some point.
Have you looked into games in development? One is Global Conflagration. It's looking really good and they might do a playtest at around october. They are going more into a capture and hold objectives for resources type of deal. Sorta like Company of heroes Another one is Commanding Nations. Their game is very much CNC inspired. A classical base building RTS. Look them up together with global conflagration!

I would personally be harsher on Early Access games showing no real development or bug fixing. And there are billions like that 😉 Anyway, thank you for helping us to discover new games. @Tentacles, look at the videos of Ruwetuin, he has some nice gameplay videos. BAR works better than supcom on bad internet connections or when someone has a slow computer. Also I think it looks better, but that part might be subjective.
Hello Zakh, whenever I watch your videos, I say that you should have more subscribers. Well either way I am one of them. Short question ever thought of making a list of Adventure games? Like the classic ones with riddles, and a good story to follow. Like Monkey Island, broken sword, Still life, Siberia and so on. Do they even exist? Or are they a dead genre...
They still exist, I used to do Adventure games as part of my list set but it was one of the less popular ones and when I reformatted in 2018 I unfortunately could only handle 6 lists a year instead of the 12 I was doing. Thimbleweed Park was 2017, Unavowed was 2018, Even Leisure Suit Larry got a game this year.
BAR is great fun and Fata Deum is going to scratch an itch I’ve had for about 20 years! (I pretend B&W 2 didn’t happen) Stellar Warfare is another interesting Space RTS that’s out in closed alpha and is good fun!

Take a look at Zero-K then. BAR looks like it rips multiple models off both Zero-K, other spring games, and TA itself.

BAR is just another Spring RTS mod. Could be interesting, but just consider it as a TA mod.

Let's not forget Dreamhaven alognside Frost Giant. They brought onboard a lot of ex SC2 staff as well as Dustin Browder, lead designer of Red Alert 2 and C&C Generals. Having 2 studio's also throws everything up in the air so it seems unlikely that they wouldn't make a strategy game, at least at some point.

Have you looked into games in development?
One is Global Conflagration. It's looking really good and they might do a playtest at around october. They are going more into a capture and hold objectives for resources type of deal. Sorta like Company of heroes
Another one is Commanding Nations. Their game is very much CNC inspired. A classical base building RTS. Look them up together with global conflagration!
Knights of honor seems very very good!

Dear Zakh, you put a lot of time and effort in this for sure! And you are very balanced in your comments. I would personally be harsher on Early Access games showing no real development or bug fixing. And there are billions like that 😉 Anyway, thank you for helping us to discover new games. What Kingdoms Reborn? It looks more finished than let's say Frozenheim.

Beyond all reason REALLY looks like totala or supcom. I just don't know how to improve on supcom, it's basically the perfect large scale RTS...
map scale wise its not as grand as supcom. but at least you can admire the actual unit models and micro more! Also BAR literally came from TA origins.
@Tentacles, look at the videos of Ruwetuin, he has some nice gameplay videos. BAR works better than supcom on bad internet connections or when someone has a slow computer. Also I think it looks better, but that part might be subjective.

That is their inspiration, just a lot more individual physics simulations on top of all that.

Hello Zakh, whenever I watch your videos, I say that you should have more subscribers. Well either way I am one of them. Short question ever thought of making a list of Adventure games? Like the classic ones with riddles, and a good story to follow. Like Monkey Island, broken sword, Still life, Siberia and so on. Do they even exist? Or are they a dead genre...
They still exist, I used to do Adventure games as part of my list set but it was one of the less popular ones and when I reformatted in 2018 I unfortunately could only handle 6 lists a year instead of the 12 I was doing. Thimbleweed Park was 2017, Unavowed was 2018, Even Leisure Suit Larry got a game this year.

BAR is great fun and Fata Deum is going to scratch an itch I’ve had for about 20 years! (I pretend B&W 2 didn’t happen)
Stellar Warfare is another interesting Space RTS that’s out in closed alpha and is good fun!
