I have listened to DOC WATSON and a lot of the other bluegrass and country greats for years. I have had the pleasure of seeing several perform in person, but never had the opportunity to see DOC before he passed away. That’s something that I wish I could have done, even though I have probably watched every TH-cam video there is on him. Through my love of bluegrass and country, I eventually came across BILLY STRINGS several years ago. I recently had the opportunity to see his perform in OKLAHOMA CITY. That was literally the best concert I have ever attended, and I’ve attended A LOT over the years. I’ve seen Garth. Ricky Skaggs. Earl Scruggs. Keith Urban. Carrie Underwood. Brad Paisley. The Eagles. Lynyrd Skynyrd... just to name a few. I think what made BILLY STRINGS’ concert so memorable and enjoyable was the fact that BILLY knows the history of bluegrass. He knows where the music came from, and has a deep respect for its traditions, its history, and its founders. And in particular, he has a deep and loving respect in his heart for DOC.
Hand to God there is a version of Doc Watson performing the song where there is also piano and other instrumentation, I have been looking and looking but cannot find the recording....
Yeah, obviously the video of Doc and his grandson is out there somewhere without the talk-over. Be great if it were posted and promoted enough to out-search this ruined version. Skaggs and his yammer partner should at least have the respect to give their commentary either before or after the song.
