    • @sunconuresolar2658
      @sunconuresolar2658 3 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Sorry, meant to say vortex tube, very similar principle though. The vortex tube is frequently used for chilling air and delivering it to your helmet for blasting and keeping a positive pressure so you don't inhale a bunch of silica dust. The output end of a vortex tube is hot as hell. I'm not sure if the differential is great enough to cook the dog or chill the beer, I guess it depends on how you design it.

    Love the bird! You need a pressure regulator on your air compressor so that your flow on the hotdog is more stable. They are not very expensive. I don't know if this will solve the instability issues or not with using the coandra effect, but it can't hurt. I wonder if you could move the air nozzle lower between the coils so that the entire hot dog could be inside at least warm coils?
    ***
    Between the air compressor and the heating element, that might not be the most cost effective way to cook a hotdog.

    also part of that effect is: when fluid has a difference in speed, there is also a difference in pressure. that means, the higher pressure outside the stream pushes the object inside the stream of air

    • @Nighthawkinlight
      @Nighthawkinlight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think that doesn't count in this case, because the stream of air and the surrounding air did not start at the same pressure. The stream of air had more pressure to begin with in the hose and might travel a short distance before totally equalizing. I'm not certain about that. Seems like it would be hard to measure.

There was an "electric tablecloth" in England, with electrical contacts for light bulbs (instead of using candles to light your dinner, you see). But having live electricity running through something that's prone to having liquids spilled on it isn't exactly smart design.

    Back in about 63, I was about seven and had a toy with a two hand controlled fan, that could take off and land a helium balloon from one pad, a foot away, to another pad, a foot away the other side. I don't remember what they called the effect, but it wasn't what you called it, they probably didn't know the right name. I got serious into fluid dynamics because of that toy, and have made a living working and reworking engines. Very cool demonstration, caught my eye, and flashed back to that toy. Thanks for bringing me back to focus on that, I've been doing thermo-acoustic engines for about twenty five years, it really gives a good visualization, watching a flame sucked in a port, dozens of times a second, outlining precisely the same path, exactly as you show with the coffee mug, and I spill every other morning. Really enjoyed this one. Thanks for making me young again.

    You should do a magnetic induction hotdog cooker where you put a hotdog on a metal skewer and float the hotdog inside an intense magnetic field.

    In my college physic class we were taught that the ping pong ball levitated due to Bernoulli's principle. This was stated again in my flight training ground school. I am also familiar with the Coanda effect and both of these seems to be saying the same things in slightly different ways. Either way, the idea of cooking a hotdog while it is levitating is shear madness and I love it. Your videos are always very creative and insightful. Great job.

    • @Nighthawkinlight
      @Nighthawkinlight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes the two principles work in unison. Bernoulli's principle is where the lift comes from (the low pressure over the curved surface is how the equal and opposite force from the redirected air is imparted to the object), but the Coanada effect is what keeps the dog centered in the airstream so it doesn't just fly off.

    Your friendly neighborhood Romanian here.
    So the name "Coandă" from the "Coandă effect" named after Romanian inventor "Henri Coandă" is pronounced as follows:
    The "coa" is pronounced like the "Koa" in Koala.
    The n and d are pronounced as you'd normally pronounce them.
    The "ă" is pronounced like an "uhh", yakno, the sound you make when you've pissed your pants in class and your teacher asks you "did you just piss your pants?"
    Therefore, Coandă is pronounced Koa-nd-uhh.
    If you're an american and are ever in doubt about the pronunciation of Romanian words, ask a mexican or an italian, they'll be able to help you. (Not an italian-american from NYC, they won't be able to help you, they can't even say Mozzarella properly).
    This has been part 1 of my 3 part plan of starting a Romanian mega-empire and overtaking the world.
    Come back next week to see me use latin prayers to resurrect all of our fallen soldiers, creating a massive army of the dead.
