Could you please show me how to Implement a MATLAB M-file that reads the number of series components in a system and the MTBF values for each component, and then calculate the overall MTBF for the system?
If I'm designing a new electronic product, and the customer asks for a specific MTBF, how do I calculate that while the product is still in engineering? If I wait, it's conceivable that I could test 20 samples, and it would take 10 years for one of the 20 to fail. I can't wait that long to tell the customer the MTBF, especially when they specified it up front. There has to be a way to calculate it statistically using the component MTBF specs, like an RSS calculation.

It represents the average time a system is expected to operate before experiencing failure, but it doesn't dictate a specific action after that duration. Maintenance decisions consider various factors beyond MTTF.
