- Dame Kiri Te Kanawa appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in November, 1985 to promote her new jazz album 'Blue Skies'. Dame Kiri was in the United States playing the Countess in Der Rosenkavalier for San Francisco Opera. As well as the interview, this appearance includes performances of Puccini's Vissi d'arte from Tosca, and the title track from the new album, Blue Skies.

Johnny Carson was a class act - I'm sorry to say I can't imagine a current tv host devoting this much airtime to "high culture".
Beautiful voice and such a gracious lady. Thankful for the pleasure her voice during her long and very distinguished career.

I have always loved Kiri's voice but frankly her rendition of Blue Bird is like hearing a race car idling and you are left waiting to hear the engine roar.

Depends on what time of year in "1985." (I could have been at college [first year {UW-Madison}], or finishing high school somewhere--and then the Summer of '85 is totally wild card on a continuum/spectrum between Yellowstone Heart Lake Trail versus D+D rapping up, for example (since church was...not yet born again [Harmonic Convergence '87]). Truly a Harmonic Convergence!

You forget, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is a star. You are not. All you can do is try to tear down world class singers when you yourself are nobody. You would be a much better spokesperson for Summer's eve than to continue to sing.
