  • The Brain Recovery Coach explains How The Use Of Syntonic Therapy May Help Patients With TBI By Effecting Change In the Autonomic Nervous System
    Post video add on:
Robert S. Fox, OD, FCOVD, writes, “Specialized therapy with blue light can...stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system when it is has been disrupted by a traumatic brain injury. After a traumatic brain injury (TBI), the sympathetic nervous system goes into overdrive, and the patient is stuck in fight-or-flight mode. Their sleep is disrupted, and they may experience any number of visual symptoms, including poor focusing, poor convergence, exotropia and problems with binocularity.” He added, “To help treat these and other visual conditions, I use syntonics - or optometric phototherapy - to apply different frequencies of light to effect changes in the autonomic nervous system.” According to Fox, “In-office syntonics instruments, in which the patient looks through a long tube that blocks out ambient and peripheral light, are the most effective, in my experience. These typically offer a wide variety of high-quality color filters and a controlled light source.”
Each year, traumatic brain injuries (TBI) contribute to a substantial number of deaths and cases of permanent disability. A TBI is caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. The severity of a TBI may range from “mild” to “severe.” Even an injury labeled "mild" will not feel mild to the person affected by it.
    TBI in the United States:
An estimated 2.8 million people sustain a TBI annually.
    Of them:
    50,000 die,
    282,000 are hospitalized, and
2.5 million, nearly 90%, are treated and released from an emergency department.
TBI is a contributing factor to a third (30%) of all injury-related deaths in the United States.
Every day, 153 people in the United States die from injuries that include TBI.

I'm an artist so I knew colors affect moods, but I never thought of it to help with the brain. Thank you!

Great video. The eyes are the only external part of the brain.

I had a brain injury in 2012 I had a 6 foot fall from a horse landed on my butt and slammed my head against the gravel. I had bleeding on the brain and my question to you is will aromatherapy work for me. I have constant migraines, very irritable, just wondering if you can answer that question for me because doctors can’t I also lost my sense of smell, and my sense of taste

When my son was given Syntonics, he had to look at a red light first and then a green light, each 10 minutes. Does this sound right? It looks like your doctor only required you to look at the green? My son did not make huge improvements. Not I'm wondering if it's because he was also doing the right light.

Every brain is different so I would listen to your doctor on that one.

Would these things someone that has had a stroke?

    • @NathalieKelly
      @NathalieKelly 2 ปีที่แล้ว

A stroke is also an acquired brain injury so a lot of the same modalities apply but check with a syntonics professional.

So interesting...I went to vision therapy and he gave me green light syntonic therapy and it screwed up my brain so badly. My brain injury became more noticeable then ever before. And I started being thrown into stroke like migraines again where they had been quite for many many months. Couldn't ride in the car, just a mess.

@@cinmac3 I know it is so interesting! I'm curious as to why I had such a bad response to it. I only did 3- 2 minute sessions and it wrecked my brain which took months to recover.

That speaks to how powerful colored light is. Everyone is different and it is important to have a professional guide you. My current therapist has me using color for 10 seconds a day and slowly weaning off from there.
