My Pick today! A Night at the Opera is the fourth studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 28 November 1975 one of my top 5 albums from Queen!! a Classic rock album in everyway!
Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. My pick today is BLOOD ON THE TRACKS by BOB DYLAN. Another college friend was a huge Dylan fan and, while I've always liked his 60s singles, he turned me on to this album too. Favourite track is the nine-minute story-song Lily, Rosemary And The Jack Of Hearts.
Today's pick is UFO-Force It. My favorite UFO album among a plethora of great early records. So many great songs featuring the phenomenal Michael Schenker including "Let It Roll", "Shoot Shoot", "Love Lost Love", "Out In The Street", "Mother Mary" and "Dance Your Life Away". When UFO was great, as they were on Phenomenon through Lights Out, they were special. Always very solid but these 4 albums and perhaps Obsession as well were amazing. 1975's Force It leads the pack for me.
My choice today is a very fine debut from 1975, DREAMBOAT ANNIE from HEART. I actually 'got into' Heart with the second album Little Queen and kept up with their releases but it was a few years before I picked up a mint vinyl copy with gatefold of this gem of an album. By this time I knew both Magic Man and Crazy On You.of course, both great rockers that have become classic rock staples and deservedly so. There are other great tracks here that mix their acoustic folk influences with some genuinely heavy 70s rock. Ann in particular established herself as arguably the premier female rock singer of this or any other era and the songwriting was already well established. There were obvious comparisons to Zeppelin in the mixture of light and shade with acoustic folky songs interspersing the rockers and Ann's soaring vocal range drew comparisons with Robert Plant. Heart, rather than distance themselves from that obvious influence and comparison, actually embraced it both in interviews and onstage where they would often encore with a Zeppelin cover included. Now firmly established as a legendary and iconic band, the story began here and with a hell of a musical bang.
Brilliant album. Listened to this one for the first time last year following the debut shows. Acoustic, folk influences were pleasantly surprising to me.
Day : Jethro Tull released "Minstrel in the Gallery" on the Chrysalis Records label in March of '75. A mid-decade emanation from Tull now using a mobile recording studio in Monaco. "Black Satin Dancer" and "One White Duck" stand out as well as does the title track, "Minstrel in the Gallery". The new direction by the band here has been called a heavy metal treatment of the Brick - Passion Play era of Tull.
Day8-Thin Lizzy-Fighting. Great bluesy hard rock with twin guitar work from Mr. Gorham and Mr.Robertson. Phil does a great job singing on this album. I personally like Ballad of a Hard Man. This is my number 8 pick.
Hi everyone, hope we're all well... My pick for today is by a British band who, in their own country, struggled to get arrested, even when, in the US, they were riding high in the charts and selling out stadiums. This album was their most successful, spawning top 20 hit single Stateside and going platinum in the process... FOGHAT "Fool For The City" (Bearsville) Others have already sung this albums praises, so I won't drone on for too long today, except to say that, due to their lack of profile in the UK I came pretty late to the Foghat party; despite having owned the double platinum "Live" on vinyl since the 80's, I hadn't followed it up with any of their studio output until Rock Candy Records reissued both this and the live album and I realised what I'd been missing for over 40 years!!
Yes indeed sir Iain. Quite a popular pick this month, I got into them in the '7Os but this was the only album, other than Live! I always thought Bearsville Records was a cool name.
24. Steely Dan - Katy Lied (3/1/75) 25. Moxy - Moxy 26. Bad Company - Straight Shooter 27. Armageddon - Armageddon 28. Rush - Caress of Steel 29. Styx - Equinox 30. Deep Purple - Come Taste the Band 31. Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis?
Moxy debut, The original Black Album. I just discovered this one, so thanks to sot crew. Can't stop listening to it. Sounds great! Hard rock of the North. Tommy Bolin played most of the leads! Guitarist Earl Johnson only played on a couple songs due to disagreement with the engineer. They got so popular in Texas that Boston was reversed to the opening act for them in 1976! That Tommy BoLin. Sure was busy around those mid-70s, such a tragedy! R.i.P.
Day 8 - “Stampede”, The Doobie Brothers Day 7 - “Dressed To Kill”, Kiss Day 6 - “Hair Of The Dog”, Nazareth Day 5 - “Nuthin’ Fancy”, Lynyrd Skynyrd Day 4 - “Red Octopus”, Jefferson Starship Day 3 - “Fleetwood Mac”, S/T Day 2 - “Still Crazy After All These Years”, Paul Simon Day 1 - “Caress Of Steel”, Rush
8) Neil Young - Zuma Zuma is my favorite Neil Young studio album of the '70s. And it just might be his best album. Released only a couple of months after Tonight's The Night, the record finds Neil going back to his early solo work with electric ballads that are filled with strong riffs, and that are emotionally bittersweet, but at the same time passionate. Starting off with the rather low tone of "Don't Cry No Tears", the mood changes with "Danger Bird" with its melancholic yet powerful guitar riffs that allow the different sounds to flow freely. "Pardon My Heart" and "Looking For A Love" change the tone back, both of them being enjoyable soft, melancholic ballads, while "Barstool Blues" adds a much more lively note with its raw melodies and Neil's distinctive vocal delivery. "Stupid Girl" explores Neil's bluesier side, it's a simple but effective tune. The highlight of the album though has to be the seven-minute epic "Cortez The Killer", that starts out in a similar way to most of the songs on the album, but quickly builds up to an almost improvisational jam before reaching its conclusion. Finally, the closer, "Through My Sails" finds Neil collaborating with his old partners in crime Crosby, Stills and Nash for what is a very warm and sentimental ending to the record. Overall, Zuma is a very strong album that tends to get overlooked in favor of Neil's better known albums. The guitar tone on the record is very reminiscent of Neil's first couple of solo albums, at times sounding raw and crisp, and soft and enticing at others. In its entirety it's a very satisfying effort from Neil, who managed to release two classic albums in the same year, definitely not an easy feat. 1) Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver 2) Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel 3) Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand 4) Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser 5) ZZ Top - Fandango! 6) Eagles - One Of These Nights 7) Linda Ronstadt - Prisoner In Disguise 8) Neil Young - Zuma
Budgie - Bandolier One of their best. Great riffs and great songwriting. //Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow //Styx - Equinox //MTB - Searchin' For A Rainbow //Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy //Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band //Steve Hillage - Fish Rising //ZZ Top - Fandango!
Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte (#10) Brilliantly sequenced and arranged debut album from the former Genesis guitarist. The first 4 songs are all stellar instrumentals showcasing Hackett’s musical prowess that was never fully seen on the previous Genesis albums. Afterwards, there are vocal songs (excluding one instrumental) featuring Steve, Phil Collins, and Sally Oldfield. The Phil Collins track (Star of Sirius) easily slides into one of the next 2 Genesis albums. Amazing, amazing musical genius in Ace of Wands, The Tower, and the epic Shadow of the Hierophant. All 3 of these tracks were Hackett highlights during the recent Foxtrot at Fifty tour. I was lucky to catch this tour at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee two years ago, which is a spectacular venue.
@@tomp8463 Yea, I've only got 15 this month, so I'm posting as I am able to. Gives me some time to relisten to what I post and listen to others I haven't heard.
Day 8 - Queen "A Night At The Opera" Another example of a band or artist (and there are many) who released my favourite album in their catalogue in 1975. There was definitely something going on that year.
Day 8 (#24): Electric Light Orchestra - Face The Music 25. Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger 26. Paul Simon - Still Crazy After All These Years 27. Patti Smith - Horses 28. Robin Trower - For Earth Below 29. Herbie Hancock - Man Child; Flood (Live) 30. Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow 31. Bad Company - Straight Shooter
Day 8 / Pick # 24 = KANSAS - Song For America. Hailing from Topeka, Kansas, USA; these American progsters released two very strong albums in 1975, this one being the first. Swirling keyboards, violin, guitar riffs, polyrhythms, the heavenly voice of Steve Walsh....all those ingredients combined to create a majestic sound. Highlights: Song For America, Lamplight Symphony, and Incomudro - Hymn To The Atman.
8. Jethro Tull - Minstrel In The Gallery My third favorite Tull after Thick As A Brick and Songs From The Wood. Some of Martin Barre’s best guitar playing is on this classic!
My number 24: Rainbow, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow Get Dio and Ritchie Blackmore in a band and you know you have to listen to it. I am no different. Rainbow's first album is a come-back in my lists. I ignored it for the longest time, because when i wanted to listen to Rainbow, i obviously grabbed Rising. Until i listened to this again in 2024. Really!! Not until 2024.
Day 8: Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow Day 7: Weather Report - Tale Spinnin' Day 6: Soft Machine - Bundles Day 5: Steve Hackett - Voyage Of The Acolyte Day 4: King Crimson - USA Day 3: Return To Forever - No Mystery Day 2: Mahavishnu Orchestra - Visions Of The Emerald Beyond Day 1: Rush - Fly By Night
Day 8: Grobschnitt - Jumbo. Another great band from Germany somewhere between Krautrock, Rock, Pop and Prog. They released this album twice, in 1975 with English lyrics and in 1976 with German ones. Their real masterpiece came in 1977 with Rockpommel´s Land.
My Day 8 pick is an album released on 24 October 1975 and recorded on June-July 1975 at Caribou Ranch, Nederland, Colorado; remixed at Trident, London and produced by Gus Dudgeon I'm talking about the tenth studio album by English musician Elton John, Rock of the Westies. Released less than five months after his previous album, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Rock of the Westies repeated that album's then-unprecedented feat of entering the US Billboard 200 chart at number one, and was John's final chart-topping studio album in that country. It was also successful (albeit to a lesser extent) in the artist's home territory of the UK, where it reached No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart. Robert Christgau ranked it as No. 7 on his list of the best albums of 1975. Track listing edit All tracks are written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, except where noted. Today is Who by numbers . Some people put this lower on their list of Who albums. I dont. Its in my top 3 Who albums. Slip kid. How many friends, how ever much i booze, ect. Some nice deep cuts on this one.
Day 8 is Force It by UFO. The classic line up of Phil Mogg on vocals, German wunderkind Michael Schenker on guitars, Pete Way on bass and Andy Parker on drums. Chick Churchill of Ten Years After guested on keyboards and his band mate Leo Lyons produced. The great James Dewar did backing vocals. Five of the nine tracks went on to appear on seminal live album Strangers In The Night in 1978. You just can't argue with songs of the quality of Let It Roll, Shoot Shoot, Out In The Streets, Mother Mary and This Kid's. UFO really should've been massive, but they always seemed to grab defeat from the jaws of victory for some reason. But fans of well written, well played hard rock that seemed to defy genre classification can appreciate this wonderful band.
My pick for today is Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention - One Size Fits All. Everything people say about Frank Zappa could be true: Musical genius, virtuoso, eclectic , high brow, obscene, authentic, absurd, funny, quirky, crazy... The one thing some people get wrong is that Zappa didn´t do drugs, he was totally against it A friend asked me while listening to one of his records: ´What drugs is this guy on.´ He didn´t need it to create weird stuff. One Size Fits All is one of my favorite Frank Zappa albums. The compositions are sublime and as always performed with enormous musical dexterity. Zappa´s guitar work on ´Inca Roads´ and ´Po-Jama people´ is amazing. ´Sofa #1, Sofa #2 and San´ Berdino are other favorites. Also kudo´s for the memorable bass playing of the late Tom Fowler. If I Wanna get high, I play Zappa. His music is my favorite drug.
Day 8 Fantastic pick Pete My pick today is Fleetwood Mac S/T 1 Seals and Crofts “I’ll Play for You” 2 Bruce Springsteen “Born to Run” 3 America “Hearts” 4 Eagles “One of These Nights” 5 Paul Simon “Still Crazy after all These Years” 6 Heart “Dreamboat Anne” 7 Eric Carmen S/T 8 Fleetwood Mac S/T
Super choice Melanie. Definitely one of the best albums from this new line up which changed the band completely with such a different style of music, from the early blues offerings to some might say 'Yacht rock' But when you can write fantastic songs like Fleetwood Mac do, who cares!
Excellent pick, Pete. Today, my AoD from '75 will be "Rhinestone Cowboy" from the late, great Glen Campbell. I generally don't care for country music, but I've always like GC's music. He was a bit more "Western" than country. Thanks, Pete.
#24 Kiss - Dressing to Kill / Alive Before the fame and fortune that would come with “Alive”, Kiss gives us another great album of classic, simple and direct rock'n'roll. They would later become superstars who would conquer the world during the second part of the 70s. Albums That Are 50 Years Old in 2025 #24 Kiss - Dressing to Kill / Alive #25 Patti Smith - Horses #26 AC/DC - TNT #27 Neu! - Neu! 75 #28 Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time #29 Budgie - Bandolier #30 Steely Dan - Katy Lied #31 Tangerine Dream - Rubycon
#24 Bad Company - Straight Shooter #25 Thin Lizzy - Fighting I got to see Bad Company on tour for this album. They played the tunes just like on their records and they were wonderful. I was glad to see Mick Ralphs because I never got to see Mott the Hoople. Mick’s songwriting chops came in real handy with this group. He wrote the classic opening song “Good Lovin’ Gone Bad”. He and singer Paul Rodgers wrote most of the rest of the songs. And drummer Simon Kirke contributed two songs as well. Kirke wasn’t the most fluid drummer, but he hit with a sledgehammer on every tune. Bass player Boz Burrell from King Crimson completed the lineup. The tunes were uniformly excellent on this record. “Feel Like Makin’ Love” is a great smooth rocker with an incredible groove. “Weep No More” is a hook laden pop rocker that Bad Company made their reputation on. “Shooting Star” is an elegant eulogy to all the rock stars that we lost along the way. The chorus is as majestic as rock music ever got. Extraordinary track ! Side two is slightly weaker. But it starts off with a kick ass rocker in “Deal With the Preacher”. It’s easily the heaviest song on the album. “Wild Fire Woman” is a pretty good dirty rocker. “Anna” is the limpest track here…but pleasant enough not to skip. “Call on Me” is a good tune with fine guitar work from Ralphs. They could have replaced these last two songs with a stronger rocker; and this would have been a stone cold classic. As it is it’s one of the best albums in the Bad Company catalog. Yesterday I got myself in a quandry. The album I picked I wasn’t getting into. So I didn’t do a pick to further research my choice. And you know what; I got to loving it the second time through. By the time I got around three times…I was sold ! Don’t misunderstand here…my pick was always great…it was me not paying attention. I am talking about Thin Lizzy and Fighting. The twin lead guitars of Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson is as advertised and terrific. As I became more familiar with the tunes, I could appreciate the depth of quality. Phil Lynott wrote some amazing lyrics for the record. The tunes all are standouts in my book. My favorites are: “Kings Vengeance”, “Rosalie” (great Bob Seger cover), “Suicide”(musically only), “Spirit Slips Away” & “Freedom Song”(beautiful guitars). But unlike Bad Company, Thin Lizzy closes the album with the best song here. It’s “Ballad of a Hard Man”. This is a smoking hard rocker that ups the volume to 11. It’s a fantastic way to close an album ! What I put myself through on this record is typical of the chore of picking only 31 albums out of so many great ones. At least my top twenty are carved in stone…I think ???🤔
My favorite albums turning 50. In no particular order: Day 8: Foghat - Fool For the City Foghat were formed in England in 1971. Fool For the City is their fifth studio album, which was the first one to go platinum. My favorite tracks: “Slow Ride” “Fool For the City” “Take It Or Leave It’ Day 8: Foghat - Fool For the City Day 7: Styx - Equinox Day 6: ELO - Face the Music Day 5: Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks Day 4: Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery Day 3: Nazareth - Hair of the Dog Day 2: Angel - Angel Day 1: David Bowie - Young Americans
Hi Debbie. Never heard of Foghat, though the time up from 1971 "was" my time to discover new bands back then. Some others have said today that Foghat has not been recognized in their home country at all, and I guess this is the reason why they got zero airplay at our european stations and had no hit singles.
24. Power and the Passion by Eloy Choice cuts: "Love over Six Centuries," "Back into the Present" 25. Black Eyed Bruiser by Stevie Wright 26. Brown Rice by Don Cherry 27. The Original Soundtrack by 10cc 28. Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin 29. Bolan's Zip Gun by T. Rex 30. Extra Texture (Read All About It) by George Harrison 31. Mental Notes by Split Enz
Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Outstanding SoT selection. Personal pick today? The third studio album by this American singer-songwriter released in August on the Columbia label - Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen. This album came to my attention when friend was home from his northern college for winter break later that year and he did the "you have to come over and hear this" album routine. I was vaguely familiar with Bruce from some earlier singles but hadn't really listened to an album yet. A note for those who may not remember, disco music was the rising radio music form and though I'll admit to enjoying some of that music, its continued dominance at the time wore on me [and others]. Then this album comes blaring through my friend's family stereo system and rock and roll [not just rock] seemed to be resurrected and hope renewed. The title track alone made you want to hit the highway and seek adventure in a way not felt since Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild. Some great songs here but the openers for sides one and two - Thunder Road and the title track - were an outstanding start for each side. The album charted high in the U.S. and also charted in 8 other markets during 1975-76. The singles were the title track and Tenth Avenue Freeze Out. The personnel - recommend a visit to the Wikipedia page for those details as this has gone on almost long enough. Maybe a questionable entry for an SoT list but an album that remains one of some favorites from this artist. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.
Alphonse Mouzon - Mind Transplant, the 3rd album by the jazz-fusion drummer. I'm not a huge fusion fan, but I got into this album because of Tommy Bolin's involvement. It's an amazing album, Mouzon's drumming is incredible, and Tommy's playing is spectacular. Highlights include the incendiary Nitroglycerin and the gorgeous, moody Golden Rainbows, which includes a fantastic solo by Tommy. Also features jazz fusion great Lee Ritenour on 3 tracks.
Today my pick #24 is Blackfoot No Reservations, their debut album, a good one my favorites are railroad man, Indian world, born to rock n roll, big wheels. Start to finish a strong debut from a bands who would make great albums down the road
Pick #24: Eloy's Power and the Passion. #31: Bad Company's Straight Shooter #30: Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte #29: Kiss's Alive #28: ZZ Top's Fandango #27: Scorpions' In Trance #26: Hawkwind's Warrior on the Edge of Time #25: Nazareth's Hair of the Dog #24: Eloy's Power and the Passion
Hello Pete and everyone. Today’s choice has been a recent discovery for me, as this British band have had virtually no recognition in their home country, despite enjoying huge success in USA: Foghat - Fool For The City My only previous knowledge of their music was the anthemic single Slow Ride, which is included here in its glorious 8 minute plus duration. This album also contains several other fine examples of boogie rock at its best, plus a cover of Robert Johnson’s Terraplane Blues and the softer Take It Or Leave It to complete an excellent album. Most of us Brits have missed out massively with this band. Nos. 11-30 (not ranked) Little Feat - The Last Record Album Wings - Venus And Mars Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow Nils Lofgren - self titled Steely Dan - Katy Lied UFO - Force It Favourite Live Album : Blue Oyster Cult - On Your Feet Or On Your Knees
Never heard a song from this band (to my knowledge Bryan) Have seen mention of the band fairly often so l probably will have a listen to a few of their songs. Take care.
@@bryanbyrde8338 Hi Bryan, well I took a little time to have a listen to Slow Ride and Fool For the City. Slow Ride was more a bumpy ride, wasn't my thing. Too long as well. However I was more impressed with Fool For the City, plenty of energy here and a pretty good tune to boot! 😄 Definitely worth a listen to a few more tunes. Cheers.
Tommy Bolin - Teaser 24. Tommy Bolin - Teaser 25. Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand, and X-Rated 26. Ian Hunter - Ian Hunter 27. Rory Gallagher - Against The Grain 28. Climax Blues Band - Stamp Album 29. Golden Earring - Switch 30. James Gang - Newborn 31. The Kinks - Schoolboys In Disgrace
08. Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time 07. Camel - Music Inspired by the Snow Goose 06. The Marshall Tucker Band - Searchin’ for a Rainbow 05. Outlaws - The Outlaws 04. Renaissance - Scheherazade & Other Stories 03. Cherry Five - Cherry Five 02. Premiata Forneria Marconi - Chocolate Kings 01. Asleep at the Wheel - Texas Gold
Today it's Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here. There is nothing to dislike period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The title track alone is great. Favourite track is Have A Cigar. The whole album pure listening pleasure. And hey, It's Pink Floyd! Great choice Pete. Coming up on my list.
24. Crack The Sky - Crack The Sky Crack The Sky were formed in Ohio, and later based in Baltimore. Their impeccably recorded fusion of art rock, prog pop and hard rock was just catchy enough to get nationwide radio play, though “Ice,” “She’s A Dancer,” and “Surf City” never became hits. With John Palumbo’s similarity of vocal tone to Peter Gabriel’s, one might have almost mistaken some tracks for Gabriel’s first post-Genesis project. Despite Rolling Stone designating their self-titled debut as album of the year, they coasted below the radar throughout their lengthy career. They somewhat strove for an AOR polish, but also steadfastly stuck to art rock experimentation that never manifested in the kind of popularity that Kansas and Styx enjoyed, nor Genesis and Gabriel. Nevertheless, their first album stands the test of time as a lost classic. Prog, Art Rock, Hard Rock, Glam, Power Pop, Prog Pop | RYM #366 | AOY #173
Day 8: Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All Day 7: David Bowie - Young Americans Day 6: RUSH - Caress of Steel Day 5: KISS - Alive! Day 4: Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run Day 3: Tangerine Dream - Rubycon Day 2: 10cc - The Original Soundtrack Day 1: Triumvirat - Spartacus
BeeGees - Main Course. Wonderful album, maybe their best and absolute my favourite. They started mixing soul, funk, pop etc. Great keyboardwork from Blue Weaver and the vocals are out of this world, especially on Fanny Be Tender. Other great tracks are Jive Talkning, Nights On Broadway and Wind Of Change.
Great pick Bengal. Debbie had this one the other day. I will tell you what I told her. That this Dylan album is the only one that I would rank with those 60’s classics.
Day 24: Chris Squire- Fish Out of Water Day 31: Lynyrd Skynyrd- Nuthin’ Fancy Day 30: The Allman Brothers Band- Win, Lose or Draw Day 29: Styx- Equinox Day 28: Kansas- Song For America Day 27: Kansas- Masque Day 26: Scorpions- In Trance Day 25: Thin Lizzy- Fighting
Day 8, #25 - Focus’ MOTHER FOCUS. An early guitar hero - the great Jan Ackerman - and phenomenal supporting cast took a wide turn with this one: a funk and jazz album! Initially, afraid to listen to it, I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, it has aged well with me.
My day 8 fifty year album is Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time. 1. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. Tribute to Syd Barrett. 2. Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery 3. Camel - The Snow Goose. 4. Area - Crac! 5. Renaissance - Scheherazade and Other Stories 6. Soft Machine - Bundles 7. Eloy - Power and the Passion 8. Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time
BILLY COBHAM A FUNKY THIDE OF SINGS The line up including the Brecker Brothers and John Scofield and Alex Blake on bass means the playing is top notch on this album. Stand out tracks include Some Skunk Funk, the opener Panhandler and Moody Moods. The title track is one of the most inventive drum solos of the 70s. Critics didn’t go much for it, but hey who cares!
David Bowie - Young Americans - This album is just ok for me, but the title track and Fame are great songs going in a new direction. 31. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin’ Fancy 30. Alice Cooper - Welcome to my Nightmare 29. Scorpions - In Trance 28. Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger 27. Elton John - Rock of the Westies 26. Heart - Dreamboat Annie 25. Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic
Todays pick Ted Nugent - "Ted Nugent" This one runs neck and neck with "Free For All" as my favorite Nugent album. "Stranglehold", "Stormtroopin", "Motor City Madhouse", and "Queen Of The Forest" are outstanding. I don`t think Ted ever got enough credit for his songwriting.
Cheers Pete. Herbie Hancock Manchild. Herbie had so many strong Jazz Funk Fusion albums ( Headhunters, Thrust, Crossings, Sextant). Man- Child tends to get overlooked but it’s solid.
I might catch some flack for my pick today but even with some flaws I still think this album is pretty solid. Uriah Heeps Return to Fantasy! Heep kinds were at a loss by the time this album came out, losing bass player Gary Thain and they got the talents of Mr John Wetton to join which I always thought was pretty cool. The first side of this album is all strong to me. With Heep returning to some progressive roots in the title track and Beautiful Dream. The other 2 tracks are more rocking songs with Shady Lady and Devils Daughter. The infamous Over the Mountain drum fill can be heard in Shady Lady as well! Side 2 kinda drops off for me but still a couple tracks Showdown and A Year and A Day stand out for me!
@@tomp8463 I think these mid 70s Heep album get a bad rap. Sure they arent Magicians Birthday or Demons and Wizards. But that's the beauty of Heeps long catalog they never really did the same thing twice
Today Climax Blues Band - Stamp Album. BTM records. This band really write strong melodies that have a blues influenced flavour. Using the Power and the easy blues inspired Running Out of Time just two of the great tracks.
#24 Alice Cooper - Welcome To My Nightmare #25 Mahogany Rush - Strange Universe #26 Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Nightingales& Bombers #27 The Wings - Venus + Mars #28 Supertramp - Crisis What Crisis #29 Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All #30 Hawkwind - Warrior On The Edge Of Time #31 Robin Trower - For Earth Below
And now for something completely different. It's... Monty Python - 'The Album of the Soundtrack of the Trailer of the Film Monty Python and the Holy Grail'😁
Love "Hair Of The Dog," Pete. It's a true classic, and in my Top 10 of '75. BUT....you should've gone with YOUNG AMERICANS today since it's the 8th of January, David Bowie's birthday. ⚡
On day 8 I go with Be-Bop Deluxe - Futurama. An album that features songs like 'Maide In Heaven', 'Sister Seagull' or 'Swan Song' on the tracklist cannot be that bad. Indeed it is not bad at all it is a very good one, maybe one of the studio releases by this band.
An excellent pick . My selection for today is the great Blue Jays , by Justin Hayward and John Lodge . This is a top shelf album that I would rank up there wi the best of the Moody Blues albums . Cheers !
Horses -Patti Smith. 2024 #25 s/t-Sykofant, I think they've heard Echoes and Hemispheres. 2024 #24 Tarantula Heart -Melvins. King Buzzo yet again with killer guitar playing and tone. On 19 minute Pain Equals Funny band uses early 70s Miles / Teo Macero process of putting song together via cutting and pasting and to me it works like a charm.

Great pick Planet. The title track is my favorite. I also picked it today.

0:27 pick #8
My pick: Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
classic

Hi everyone, hope we're all well... My pick for today is by a British band who, in their own country, struggled to get arrested, even when, in the US, they were riding high in the charts and selling out stadiums. This album was their most successful, spawning top 20 hit single Stateside and going platinum in the process...
FOGHAT "Fool For The City" (Bearsville)
Others have already sung this albums praises, so I won't drone on for too long today, except to say that, due to their lack of profile in the UK I came pretty late to the Foghat party; despite having owned the double platinum "Live" on vinyl since the 80's, I hadn't followed it up with any of their studio output until Rock Candy Records reissued both this and the live album and I realised what I'd been missing for over 40 years!!
Fine pick Iain. Brit Boogie! Was my Day 1 pick. A great album.

8) Neil Young - Zuma
Zuma is my favorite Neil Young studio album of the '70s.

Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte (#10)
Brilliantly sequenced and arranged debut album from the former Genesis guitarist.

Caribou Ranch, Nederland, Colorado; remixed at Trident, London and produced by Gus Dudgeon I'm talking about the tenth studio album by English musician Elton John, Rock of the Westies.

#24 Bad Company - Straight Shooter
#25 Thin Lizzy - Fighting
I got to see Bad Company on tour for this album.
Nice pick Richard, had it on day 1

Pick #24: Eloy's Power and the Passion.
#31: Bad Company's Straight Shooter
#30: Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte
#29: Kiss's Alive
#28: ZZ Top's Fandango
#27: Scorpions' In Trance
#26: Hawkwind's Warrior on the Edge of Time
#25: Nazareth's Hair of the Dog
#24: Eloy's Power and the Passion
My Day 8 Pick:
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy
Hello Pete and everyone. Today’s choice has been a recent discovery for me, as this British band have had virtually no recognition in their home country, despite enjoying huge success in USA:
Foghat - Fool For The City
My only previous knowledge of their music was the anthemic single Slow Ride, which is included here in its glorious 8 minute plus duration. This album also contains several other fine examples of boogie rock at its best, plus a cover of Robert Johnson’s Terraplane Blues and the softer Take It Or Leave It to complete an excellent album. Most of us Brits have missed out massively with this band.
Nos. 11-30 (not ranked)
Little Feat - The Last Record Album
Wings - Venus And Mars
Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
Nils Lofgren - self titled
Steely Dan - Katy Lied
UFO - Force It
Favourite Live Album : Blue Oyster Cult - On Your Feet Or On Your Knees
@@bryanbyrde8338 hi Bryan. Interesting pick and article
Never heard a song from this band (to my knowledge Bryan) Have seen mention of the band fairly often so l probably will have a listen to a few of their songs. Take care.
@@melaniethurber5117 Thanks Melanie.
@@keithjones6023 You might have heard Slow Ride, Keith, but even that one didn’t make any serious impression over here.
Cheers.

@@jeffreyflint6286 hi Jeffrey. Fantastic pick and article. Coming up sometime this month.
Great choice jeffrey
Face The Music - Electric Light Orchestra. Fire On High and Poker are my favourites from this one
24. Crack The Sky - Crack The Sky
Crack The Sky were formed in Ohio, and later based in Baltimore.
I think they just barely missed it for some reason. Probably the stupid record label

Eloy. The power and the passion l love this band so prog great album
Focus! I have several of their albums but am missing this one....to rectify....will try to track down a copy.
My day 8 fifty year album is Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time.
1. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. Tribute to Syd Barrett.

My choice is Atlantic Crossing by Rod Stewart. It's not my favorite album by him but it features some great covers, Drift Away and Sailing.
@@keithulrich1235 hi Keith. Awesome pick
No flack from me. Cool pick my friend.
