  • Are you considering leaving Canada for better healthcare and a more adventurous lifestyle? Join us as we share our journey from the cold Canadian winters to a life of global exploration and top-tier medical care.
In this video, we detail our transition and explore the tangible benefits of living abroad-from obtaining excellent healthcare tailored for expats to significant tax reductions. Learn how we navigated the challenges and what you can expect if you decide to make a similar move.
    We'll discuss:
The decline of healthcare quality in Canada and our decision to seek better options.
We secured reliable medical insurance that allows us to travel anywhere.
The financial benefits of living abroad include lower living costs and reduced taxes.
King of leaving your home country for a life of adventure and ease? Discover how we traded Canadian winters for global exploration, achieved excellent healthcare, lowered our cost of living, and significantly lowered our taxes.
This video unveils our journey from Canada to the world, sharing essential tips on finding the best healthcare tailored to your lifestyle. Join us on our whirlwind around the world and learn how advanced the medical systems are. This could save your life.
We lowered our taxes: The new tax laws in Canada are an assault on the middle class.
We achieved optimal healthcare: People are dying in the waiting rooms in Canada.
We improved our quality of life immensely: We are so free and have taken control of every important aspect of our lives. We can go and live anywhere and travel the world.
Canada needs to catch up to the world. We no longer felt that we had a system we could trust. Canadian taxpayers are paying for healthcare and paying for a broken system.
We choose to no longer pay into this broken system. After leaving Canada permanently, we needed to get our healthcare in order. After a lot of research, we signed with Cigna.
Today, we have the complete freedom to roam this big world with the confidence that our healthcare is there for when we need it. We lowered our taxes significantly, lowered the cost of living, and now we have the best healthcare.
Healthcare worldwide is first class; once you experience it, you will realize how sadly Canada has fallen behind.

You pay into the Canadian health care system all your life, I am now 64 and the system is broken, after paying for the system all my life!!! What a kick in the teeth, I feel so ripped off. I have never used the system other than a few colonoscopies.that's it, in 64 years, now I may need it and the "system" is telling me you can't get the health care you have paid into, it's criminal actually,, it is a breach of contract

When we lived in Nairobi, my family member had a potential dangerous health problem. It was diagnosed and treated in less than 2 weeks. Our healthcare in Philippines, Europe, Guatemala over a period of 16 years abroad was far superior than what we experienced in our own country.

My personal experience with private health care in Panama was phenomenal. I thought I had dengue fever because I felt like my bones were being crushed (dengue fever is also called "bone crushing disease") so I went into a private hospital in Chiriqui (western Panama near Costa Rica). I had 4 nurses, 2 doctors and a lab technician working on me and only me. They did their tests and it was determined that it wasn't dengue fever but rather food poisoning. They immediately started a drip to give me antibiotics. I was there for 5 hours total. When I left, the bill was a whopping US$16.34! That's FIVE hours, SEVEN health care professionals ... plus bed, medicine, etc all for less than US$20. So while Canadian politicians and promoters of a solo socialized medicine system claim we have "the best health care system in the world," based on my own personal experience, I beg to differ. (You can also get coverage at that hospital for US$50 a month. I never did because paying out of pocket is just so inexpensive.)

I so love your Canadian perspective. For over 37 years Ive called Canada my home. I love Canada. But its such a far cry from what it used to be 😢. Now Im considering slow travelling the world within the next few years. Healthcare was one of the most critical issues. And preventative care covered by insurance is tops. Thanks for sharing

My wife and I went to Prince Court Medical for our medical exams and for $600 each, it's hands-down way better value than paying into the Canadian tax system for our highly inefficient and underserviced healthcare. My dad, now 83, gets so much runaround with multiple referrals and waiting times in the span of months for semi-urgent issues. If he were in Malaysia, I know he would be sorted out far more quickly and comprehensively.
I agree with trading taxes in Canada for the lower cost of living, medical insurance and freedom to travel. Enjoy the good life and we will join you on the same journey soon!

      Hey there,
Thanks so much for sharing. Yes, we were absolutely blown away with Prince Court Medical. There is such a fear and misconception about healthcare around the world beyond the US and Canada.
I was shocked at the quality and the efficiency and realized what we have been missing. BTW we absolutely love KL!
I think the Canadian governments should be ashamed of what they have done to healthcare in Canada. The government has no money. They spend more on servicing the debt than what they spend on healthcare.
Thanks so much for watching. If you get an opportunity please watch the other 2 parts to this series of Goodbye Canada.

Lots of good ideas, sorry our Canadian Health Care kept you waiting. You quote a $7000 yearly plan . Each? For that money I would expect the best care too. And like the US they just bill the insurance. How much insurance can you use before they raise the premiums?
Are the deductibles the same for every procedure or doctor visit. I too am in Mexico , but as a tourist 6 months, leave and come back. I also own a home, have a bank account in Mexico
. I’m confused on why you gave up your residency. You got millions for your place on the island and can afford/buy your health anywhere you go. I’ve travelled enough to know that all international doctors are nice to anyone who paying them US currency.
The majority of us are not so lucky/wealthy.
I am in the opinion that this info is for a select few that are millionaires, not retired government pensioners.
I use the local medical services as a resident, I have yearly medical coverage for $ millions in case of an emergency.

They mentioned their cost of living is $5,200/month (probably USD), so well within reason. Of course, It's not for everyone, and they mentioned that many retirees are afraid of the medical cost liability, so trying to ease the concerns?

I’m from Alberta. Poor health care is common here. People are disillusioned if they think it’s very good because it’s free. It’s not free when tax payer funded. Our family sought better care for our 13 year old daughter. It set us back 75k to have spine surgery for her in Turkey. Prior to that I had not known much about Turkey but I can tell you what an advanced hospital it was in every aspect. If people had something to compare to they’d know Canadian hospitals and many doctors/specialists are extremely subpar here.

Reside in North Van city and have zero issues with the healthcare I have received over the years. There was a 7 month min. waiting list for a BC Cancer agency clinical trial on prostate cancer, yet I was accepted within 3 weeks. I think it depends where you reside, rural Canada for ex. could be an issue, and some other metro areas. No issue in seeing my family doc or dropping into a walk in clinic if need be at all. Emergency at LGH has been acceptable as well, at least for me.
Also have a home in rural Thailand, and have used their system a couple of times. The first time, I was amazed that I could actually purchase a prescription within a hospital and not need to go elsewhere and the cost was affordable; the second visit was a classic. Fainted, hit my head on pavement (to this day the cause was never determined, and this is 15 yrs. ago). Within 15 minutes I was having a Cat scan at a private hospital, stayed overnight, my family could stay with me in the same room. 95% covered by insurance at the time (work and credit cards). Released the next day.

I’m in Vancouver island. As a health care worker over 30 years, I was Vancouver coastal Health as well as worked under Fraser Health and Vancouver island health authority. Each health authority in BC is funded based on census for the area. North shore you are under VCH . That is one of the biggest in BC hence the better access. I’m under VIHA very low funding and it’s only the island. I’ve been in a wait list for the Nanaimo pain clinic for spinal stenosis therapy for EIGHT YEARS! My life is in trouble . Unable to work and living with chronic pain and disabilities that long . Maid starts to look good apparently that’s a possible option for me.

Hey thanks for sharing your experiences both in Canada and abroad. It's nice to hear positive stories, it leaves us a little more hopeful.
Like Terry mentions, in Canada healthcare can be good, however so many people are falling through the cracks. The headlines across Canada are prominent everyday.
Personally, I always had to exaggerate my systems just to get a mammogram. Mammograms were always suppose to happen every year now it's 3. Colon cancer that runs in my family- there is a 2 year wait list. I think you really have to advocate for yourself in the healthcare system.
Canada''s healthcare is now reactionary not preventative.

The bottom line, you can write and write but nothing gets done, The government is so far into debt, they spend more on servicing the debt than on healthcare. Then the new taxes will drive more and more health professionals away. Healthcare will decline significantly more in the future.
The fight is too big and we want to live our later years with peace, comfort and quality.

Thanks for your helpful and super informative content. We are in the process of exiting Canada, but are being held up with the lackluster real estate market in BC. I wish we’d figured it out 2 years ago like the two of you! At that time we knew we wanted to leave this province, but it wasn’t until about a year ago that we realised it’s time (for us) to leave Canada. We’ve lived overseas before, and are looking forward to our next chapter.

I’m sure the policy would be available to residents of Canada if they so desired, but it’s best that you check with Cigna. And lastly I always thought the FM3 was a visa to visit Mexico. It used to give you 180 days. From what I understand that is now at the discretion of the person you speak with at Immigration.

I always find I have many things to say about topics but I will try and keep it short. First, about 3 years ago I lost my doctor here in Canada as he retired, he was 76 years old, he had stayed on a couple years longer to try and find another doctor to take his patients but couldn't. Finally he had to start referring his patients to a clinic that had opened up. Well, I went to the clinic once and will never go there again. Second thing I want to mention is about the cost. You said you are paying $7,728 USD for the two of you. Well, I looked up the information and I found out that in 2023 it cost each Canadian $6,400 USD in taxes to pay for health care in Canada. Considering not everyone in Canada pays taxes, that means that some people are paying a lot more while some pay a lot less. And considering many people cannot get a doctor or have to wait months or years to meet one, you can see we are not getting good value for our money. Except for the one trip to the clinic in 2021, the last time I was to a doctor was in 2019 for a checkup and the time before that was over 5 years prior. I know because my doctor gave me a hard time for not going to see him on a more regular basis for checkups. I told him I wasn't having any issues, was still very active (playing multiple sports, hiking, biking, etc.) so didn't feel the need to go see him. Guess I was one of those people paying a lot more to support those who paid little to nothing.

    • @jillpemberton1434
      @jillpemberton1434  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

Wow... what a great message and thank you for sharing your thoughts.
In BC - if you want a check up - you now have to pay for it separately.
A mammogram after 40 - use to be every year - now its every 2-3 years. If you need a colonoscopy it's at least a 2 year wait.
So what are you really getting in Canada ?
My checkup was so thorough: A mammogram, Pap test, bone density test, pelvic ultra sound, complete blood work, ECG, stress test, met with the cardiologist, hearing test, eye test, complete blood work, meet with dietician, met for an hour with the physician. I have never experienced a check up like this!
This is preventative care verses reactionary. The $7,728 USD includes this check up plus there are even more things like cancer screening tests etc - all this is inclusive to this price.
We say go where you are treated best.

In 2004 I wrote a somewhat famous article called 'Top 8 reasons not to immigrate to Canada'. In short, the Canadian authorities tried to destroy my life. They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to the Philippines. I am happy that so many years later videos like yours are saying essentially the same things that I did. I was ahead of my time. I will never go back to Canada. Not to live, not to visit, not even a connecting flight. Too cold, too expensive, taxes are astronomical, no culture, no freedom, no jobs, no opportunities, only modern slavery, worst healthcare system, unbearable political correctness, crime infested/drug infested, xenophobic people, too depressing. It has become a North Korea style dictatorship in the western world.
There are many reasons why Canada has fallen apart. But the number one reason is ‘multiculturalism’. My friends, multiculturalism simply does not work. Different cultures do not come together and mix, different cultures come together and clash. The world is divided into different countries for a reason: because people hate each other and only want to be with their own kind. The number two reason for Canada’s demise is ‘socialism’. In this modern era of aging populations, it is mathematically impossible for socialism to continue. The government does not have the money to take care of old people and provide healthcare, pensions, welfare, unemployment benefits, disability benefits and the numerous other programs, even with the astronomical taxation that burdens hard working Canucks. Well Canada, you had a good run. Time for Canucks to move to an emerging country. We welcome you here in Southeast Asia.
Multiculturalism destroys the fabric and identity of a country. Socialism bankrupts a country.

So glad to hear that you are a healthy lady again. The Canadian healthcare has some great stories like yours but tragically there are too many people falling through the cracks of healthcare.
Canada spends more on servicing the debt than healthcare. The new tax laws will also send more doctors and healthcare workers away. The system is declining everyday. ER rooms are closed and waiting times are long depending where you live.
Thankfully, neither Randy and I have had cancer. The healthcare systems in Mexico, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia are excellent, we would be well looked after. The hospitals are outstanding.
Colon cancer runs in my family, yet I could not get a colonoscopy for 2 years. Now I have immediate access and peace of mind. Preventative care verses reactionary.
Thanks so much for watching. We really appreciate you taking the time to write. Stay tuned!
      Cheers,

We need cash to fund it. The wasteful spending of governments have created huge financing costs, that us and our children will be paying off for a long long time. Did you know that we spend more on financing our debt than we do on healthcare in Canada. Also instead of attracting more doctors and healthcare professionals, we are chasing them away. If the sentence still makes sense if you take Randy out of the sentence, then you'll know whether to use I or me. In this case, it makes no sense if you say "The annual cost for I". Agree with the terrible state of Healthcare in Canada. Disagree with your 'solutions' of private care - it is for the privileged. You are coming from a very privileged point of view. I live in Vancouver and work with immigrants who have different views on health care here depending on their class. Most come from countries with extreme wealth disparity. (the way we are going). Those who immigrated here from lower class (ie. nannies etc from Philipinnes, farm workers from Mexico) rave about the equality of health care in Canada. Those who come from high class who can afford private health care in their country hate it here. I tell them they can pay for private services, and they often fly home. Ask who can afford those private fancy hospitals in Mexico, and Malaysia. You are advocating change for the privileged. Growth of inequalilty in Canada and the rest of the world just means bad public services.

      Hi there,
Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Canada's system and healthcare is unfortunately failing everyone. The weekly headlines of people dying in the ER rooms, dying on wait and so on is more than alarming. Health expenditures in the United States average out at $12,914 per person, nearly double the $6,500 spent per person in Canada. We pay approximately $4500.00 each for private. We chose to leave Canada. We took progressive action advocating for our own healthcare. Today, we pay far less for our healthcare and our care is now: immediate, efficient and is based on preventative care verses reactionary. Now I can get cancer screening for colon cancer since this is a hereditary disease and not wait for 2-3 years for an exam. Everyone should have the right to advocate for their own well being.
We no longer depend on the Canadian system for anything, since we no longer live in Canada. The focus should be on why tax dollars are being so miss managed at the expense of the Canadian tax payer. More and more doctors are leaving Canada due to the new tax laws. The Big excessive Canadian Government is trying to tax their way out of debt and it fails everyone. More and more end up saying enough and
      leave.
      .

These are not hospitals & a medical services for the average citizens of the poorer countries that much richer Canadians, Americans & European traveller/expats go to. They are in reality high-end medical resort destinations in countries where it's the vast majority of its own citizenry are too poor to access these facilities & many having zero medical access to any type of doctor or surgery their entire lives.
There's a reason your 1st world Canadian dollars go so far in all these poor underprivileged countries. It's because their money is near worthless in comparison & you earn/collect more money in an a week or month than they do in a year. You should be ashamed to go to these places and take advantage of these poorer nation's poor situations while the local population a block away could never get medical help there.
Can you image if there was mass medical travel to Canada to an elite medical system unavailable to all but the richest Canadians & wealthy foreigner with the
masses here having terrible, or no, access to the decrepit public system??? What would would the non-1% Canadian populace say?
If you want to leave Canada & live as an expat/world traveller telling those citizens who remain how bad Canada is... you should renounce your citizenship & the other terrible Canadian government programs like your CPP & OAS pensions.

Hey thanks for watching our video, and taking the time to respond. You have an interesting outlook. Do you figure maybe we should take some of our Canadian healthcare dollars and send it off to support poor countries healthcare systems? What’s the difference. When we left Canada we freed up the healthcare demand by two. And as far as Cpp goes I paid into it my whole life. It is mine no matter where I decide to spend my time. I also paid into the Canadian system my whole life.

Sorry Ernie but you are wrong. We had an issue in Ecuador saw a GP at a Free clinic. We were referred to 2 Specialists in the same day. We paid the bills ourselves and it was just over $100.00. The local folks don’t pay a cent! These videos are exposing Canadas dirty secrets as politicians slowly force the American model of Health Care on us. Please don’t criticize folks who saw the light and decided they deserved better and did something about it.

Hi. I was thinking the same thing. I am hoping others try to forward this on Facebook. If they get back to me letting me know they were blocked as well, we will do whatever we can to correct this. If this is the case we will be getting the word out. We know several people in the main stream media who would love to run with a story like this. We just have to confirm there wasn’t some other reason this individual was blocked. Thanks so much for watching our videos and taking the time to respond.

Cuba has much better, more modern and most importantly FREE healthcare for all its citizens. The capitalistic inhumane isolated black hole, called USA can only dream about such a thing! Cuba is superior over USA as far as the healthcare is concerned!😊

Hmmmmmm. That’s very interesting. It would be interesting to see if any of our other viewers get the same result. If that’s the case. We will have to do some digging and find out exactly what’s going on. I find it hard to believe they would be censoring information like this. It is common knowledge in Canada, what a disaster our healthcare system is. Thanks so much for watching our videos and bringing this to our attention.

@pampamela636 Can you please share what you found that was cheaper full coverage medical insurance? It's different than "travel insurance". Some people confuse the two. Not saying you are, but would be good to understand what these other options might be, if you can share.

Hi there. We can honestly say we do not make one penny from Cigna or anyone else. We did a lot of research before we finally settled on Cigna. Fortunately, we have not made a claim yet other than the wellness program. You truly don’t know how good an insurance company is until you need them. We heard a lot of good things about them so went with them. If we do have to make a claim and are the least bit unsatisfied, our viewers will be the first ones to hear about it. You should also know,It is a requirement on TH-cam to disclose any payment or compensation you receive. Thanks for watching our videos on taking the time to respond.
