Inside Anna Barnett’s recently renovated east London townhouse | Living with Style

- Best known as a chef, food writer and influencer, Anna Barnett’s first priority when renovating her new(ish) east London terrace was, of course, the kitchen. When she moved it upstairs from its previous home in the sunken basement, she gave it prime position across the whole ground floor and filled it with plenty of Italian marble (an almost-too-big Rosso Verona dining table betrays a love of hosting) and crockery collected from her travels. There’s an overwhelming serenity that infuses the whole house, a clean canvas on which Anna can get creative with cool, gold-toned plastered walls and smooth, curved lines. This calmness continues in the paired-back office space that Anna has installed under the stairs on the first floor with a desk made from the marble cut-out from the bath (an example of how she hates waste, picked up from her years as a cook). When she is sitting at the desk, coffee is poured, a candle is lit and all distractions are blocked out with noise-cancelling headphones - Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro being her go-to. I don’t mind shout outs to artists and artisans and I like to know where furniture and decor items are sourced when watching a home video. But the Galaxy ear buds promo was jarring. And a lot of the product placement seemed elitist to me. The Verden products featured are very expensive and there’s little reason to zoom in on Soho House matches except to say “see how cool we are.”

I love every single detail of this house. So calm and cozy. The kitchen is just amazing.
This is absolutely gorgeous and I love how excited she is about supporting local artists and makers. Does anyone else notice British people say “kind of” as a filler phrase? I’ve noticed this with the folks featured on this channel and others.
I noticed that too. It isn't generally usually used as a filler phrase in the UK, but it is in these videos. Perhaps because it's a a way of softening bolder, more confident statements. I think it shows nervousness; when she talks about her dining table and says it's her 'most, kind of, prized possession', she could be subconsciously doubting the truth of that statement or worrying about how it will be received, or maybe she was anticipating that she wasn't going to be able to find the right word or expression, and used this 'softener' so to speak, as a filler (as you said), to buy time, but also to down play whatever follows, in case it's not what she thinks exactly. I sometimes use 'kind of', 'sort of', 'a bit' 'a little' and 'somewhat' to do the same thing, I think for those kind of(!) reasons, especially when talking about things that are more abstract or artistic.
@@Celeste-wx8ce I prefer that to the ubiquitous and loathsome 'like' used everywhere by everybody.
It takes a lot of guts to open your home to strangers because it's your life story and your personal space. It's your family that you wish to protect. I appreciate these home tours and the creative people who show them.

@J.S.I. you could argue it’s calming, she does say she is playing it safe and can change things up afterwards. I personally wouldn’t mind being in this space but all things art/ design are subjective I guess

It looks like the 'Colombo Dining Armchair' by De La Espada. They have a range of timbers they offer the chairs in and this looks like oak or maybe ash. Hope this helps 🙂
