Thanks. I'll have to show this to the Mrs. Been trying to explain these types of concepts.
Had mulberry sticks in ice box I put em in water
Wow budded out in 2 days
Amazing
I would add grafting to the mix. You can graft an ornamental crabapple or Callery pear with edible apple or pear scion and convert your trees to fruit production very quickly.
Additionally, you can also graft trees and sell them, or air layer or use cuttings depending on the species of fruit. I am doing all of the above this spring.
Thank you
So much great information and ideas, I would like to add nut trees and selling seeds or seedling, come to thing of it suckers would be another source of income. Thanks Stefan
happy holidays Stefan
Same to you. Thanks
thank you..i completely enjoy your videos the way you present yourself..But i am have been trying to decide where to vine my kiwi..im zone 8b. i have many mutli grafted fruit trees. ty for a lot of info to get there. I am going to plant kiwi vines in the few ornamental tress we have.!! they are establish and will be great cover just like kiwis would do..i was stuck in the rut.lol
Love that beautiful beard. Stefan is intelligent and very good looking
Our plum tree is dormant here but maybe in spring it will go crazy! #growyourownfood
Great idea! Now where can I plant this tree in my apartment?
Try some container citrus.
With a you pick operation do you have concerns about higher or unaffordable insurance costs because of liability issues the insurance company may require?
We are in Canada, but good to get liability insurance.
How to pick the kiwi & grapes, high up in the tree?
Limit their height to 7’
Sold a lot of quince this year. Paid for a bunch of new trees.
Would the apricot seeds that self propogated in my yard work? Can I put them in small containers and sell them as well?
You can, not sure how faithful apricot are from their original cultivar. You can always use them as rootstock and graft a well known apricot scion onto it, that would sell.
@@StefanSobkowiak I would have to learn how to do that, our tree is over 40 years old and a great fruit tree. Thank you 😊
@Stefan How far away from the base of the fruit tree should I plant the vines?
Not near fruit tree but against the nitrogen fixing tree.
@@StefanSobkowiak Thank you. Last winter I was watching your videos and started a row with a pear, elderberry, black locust, grape, blackberry, buffaloberry, then a fig. I can't wait for the grape to climb the locust. My soil is compacted sand on caliche and saw very little growth this year. I love your ideas. Underneath I have strawberries, mint, perennial kale, lavender, garlic, chives and more. It's been such a fun project.
Fantastic. The learning journey is well begun, it continues for like.
Where are you getting your stock from
On our farm, look for rootstock nurseries.
Hi Stephan, I have a question or 2..:) when you first had your conventional orchard, how did you get rid off the trees? And was there any risk of keeping diseases already on place? If so what did you do to avoid that? Thanks mate
Cut them, let the stump rot and dug out the roots. Much simpler to learn how to overgraft and USE the well established root as a rootstock. Don’t worry about disease other than fireblight. It turned out to be a waste of time to overgraft trees with fireblight as they all died within 3 years. Learning never stops.
@@StefanSobkowiak okay thanks a lot ! Will the roots automatically die or I will have to cut some new grows down every now and then ? I didn't plan to overgraft because I didn't want to keep those fragile rootstock..
No they dont just die. Easiest to cut flush and mow like grass, it will kill them
No they wont die. Easiest to cut them flush to the ground and mow like lawn. Should die out in a couple of years of regular cutting.
@@StefanSobkowiak ok thanks 👍
Love that beard.
Gone, it’s spring.
I don't know much about what he's talking about I wish I lived in an area where there was all that land and people had land for plants and trees that's really nice
.....
But I don't understand what that stick means from the tree and how somebody can grow a tree with that stick? 🤔🙏
Look up some of my grafting and propagation videos. Plants want to live, even when just a stick.
won't vines suffocate the tree?
They can if left unpruned. We will prune the vines and try to only grow them on the nitrogen fixing trees.
@@StefanSobkowiak Merci!
