  • Driven by the belief that businesses can - and should - invest in the communities around them, Intercorp founder and philanthropist Carlos Rodríguez-Pastor has built schools, pharmacies and a literal bridge to better serve Peru's growing middle class. In conversation with TED business curator Corey Hajim, he explores the immense possibility behind private-public partnerships - and his conviction that any individual can step up to create change.

This make sense. If social issues are solved in a manner where the one solving the problem is able to generate a ROI, then provate players will jump on the opportunity. Moreover, with their efficiemcied and cost effective operations, they will be able to solve these problems at lower costs as well.

Businesses can only be a force for good if they are either worker owned cooperatives, or at the very least strongly unionized.

What we call "inflation" is just price-gougimg by corporations
      Little or no benefits
      No job security
      No unions
Those at the top are clearly corrupt and have enough money to pay off politicians and our justice system to their advantage

Not one applause for the facility with the recorded most births in Peru.
The attendees are thinking "More people! This is not good for climate change. Bill Gates is not going to be pleased with this."
It is great to hear about the works of people doing good in this world.

'Make someday today'... It's very impressive. As a Korean, I guess the most serious problem of our country is low-birth rate. Koreans are getting disappeared. According to the latest announcement from the statistical office, Korean birth rate per women is 0.84. We don't have even a birth per one woman. And the government noticed how serious it is. They has expanded various policies to boost the birth rate, but as you know it doesn't work to stop to go on a down trend. Honestly to say, I don't expect that the government can find out the way to boost the birth rate dramatically. I guess I should get involved in this issue as a individual, not just expecting the government to get this done.
Thanks for this video. I could put a sense of urgency.

He profits personally from every activity he participates using the resources of Interbank, he benefits personally by using the resources and $$$$$ of the people that deposit their $$$ and trust in the bank. To be fair, other bankers do the same like the Romero family at BCP, other bankers do the same in Peru, the US or any other country, as the Rothcild patriach once said "give me the control of a bank and I will write the laws".

Business can best help solve social problems by going out of business. Business (apart from some worker co-operatives and the like) is purely in the business of extracting wealth from the working class and giving it to the capitalist class. Once upon a time business may have had some community responsibility, but not since the 1980's at the very latest.

    • @homewall744

LOL, so you'd prefer to jobs or taxes, just government force and submission and obedience to work in your government job, live in your government home, eat government food, learn from government teachers, and get care in government hospitals.

It is not the responsibility of business to be a solution for social problems. Business exists for one reason and only one reason. To make money. This video is better suited for Cuba, China, or North Korea.
