Great vid Casey! Sucks that a .75 cent freeze plug took your team outta the race. But like a true leader you turned tragedy in to triumph working with those young great minds!
Rob Pitts thanks Rob! It’s all about being a leader and doing something to forward to students lives. Looking forward to meet up with you in the future.
@@CaseyPutsch gotta live life enjoying it, helping others, and having fun. You're doing a lot and it's great. College wasn't for me either. Had a very similar experience. Knew what I wanted, knew there was a way, just had to figure it out. College wasn't part of the pathway.
Casey you're a madman. Of the very best kind. The world needs more people like you, dude. Never stop doing what you're doing, you're a goddamn great inspiration. I salute you, man.
This is honestly one of the nicest stories I've heard in a long time, props to Mr. Putsch over there who decided to dedicate his own knowledge and funds to a small community of students.
I watched this video twice. I'm a junior in high school and all of my education up to this point feels useless after watching this video. A project like this would change my life. I'm saving to buy a project car so I can start learning on my own, but something like this in SCHOOL? You sir are a great man and I wish this program had received the attention it deserved. It gives me a lot of hope to know there are people out there who are really trying to make a difference. Thank you.
This guy was already super cool with all his stories (absolutely love the Viper and Gatsby ones), but he really earned a ton of respect with this one. It was amazing of him to do this, and he set all those students up for incredibles lives and careers. A true catalyst for success and self-development! Cheers to Mr. Casey Putsch.
I’ve gotta say, this program is still the best thing I’ve done in my college career to date. I started my freshman year and it truly helped me open up and become who I am today. I truly cannot say enough about Casey’s generosity over the years I was on the team and even afterwards.
Back in the 1990s, Virginia Power (Now Dominion Power) ran an electric vehicle program for high schools across the state. I was taking auto tech at the time. One of my teachers donated a 1st gen VW Scirocco. We gutted it, built a roll cage, installed a seat, motor, esc, and battery system and competed at Richmond Raceway with other electric vehicles. It was pretty much the best thing that happened in high school.
What an amazing story. And on behalf of those students I'd just like to say thanks to Casey for being the one thing all young, bright minds desperately need. A mentor.
Wow, I just came back to my engineering university after a year off and after denying an internship because I assumed I wasnt worthy. I was in a dark place when I left but I found hope in the motivation I felt when I came back and started grinding my second junior year this fall. I have already found it in myself to realize its all worth it in the end but thank you so much Casey for telling this story and giving me a little extra push in the motivation department. I definitely realize the importance of this crazy mission I am making & I still dream of finding an opportunity to make the leap from Computer/software engineering into the automotive engineering community. If you or any of your friends do this again, I will be the first to find out and hit you up to be a part of it :)
Ed, you were right. I enjoyed every second of this amazing story. I wish something like Genius Garage would’ve been around in ‘97 when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do after graduation. I’ve since figured it out but this is a truly incredible story. Thank you for sharing!
jaques nepehw is a great guy. he has to be the only person on kijiji besides captain ron thats always has a car posted or one connected to his build. never a dull day checking a car attached to his name or his uncles anyway!great video, glad to hear someone took the time to teach the next genration how to put a leg up and move forward
My new favorite video. Cars, failure, wins, a huge contribution to the future generation as well as the automotive culture and a failure turned into a valuable life lesson. You should include a link to help fund Genius Garage. I'd definitely like to give a little to such a great idea.
This is such an amazing thing! I wish I could find a opportunity like this, Arizona doesn't have much.... Thanks for doing things for the community. Thanks for showing us how it's done!
You sir deserve a medal for this great opportunity that you gave to those students! I’m international student and I finished my associate degree in general engineering, and now I’m pursuing my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, and I can’t imagine having the chance to work in a race team and on a race car! You sir made those kids’ dream come true!
I remember the presentation at Toledo Cars and Coffee for this. What a great project! Also it's crazy seeing Michael Murray in this video. Definitely a small world.
One of the coolest car stories ever. There are FAR too few of men like you, Casey; in the world of motorsport or elsewhere. The entire world should thank you for your efforts. Period.
Casey Putsch well, you’re welcome to it; you’ve earned it and I didn’t even know you were still carrying on with the GG concept. If only 10% of the successful people with a creative mind just CONTRIBUTED to projects and entrepreneurs’ philanthropic whims like the aforementioned the world would be a much better place. Good luck with your future endeavors and keep on keepin’ on! Cheers!
Seriously, what I would have given for a college experience like this. Casey you are clearly one of a kind. I've been told that life is all about the legacy you leave. Sounds like you got that one on lock my friend.
I am currently a freshman in college. After reading the website and watching this video, I am astounded by the opportunities in this program. I will be applying this spring!
this is like formula SAE on steroids! hundreds of schools do something similar to this within their own series so definitely look that up if anyone is here saying "Dam I wish my school/future school does this" because you can do some crazy stuff and make a lot of great friends doing it
I think formula student is way more advanced than what they did. Engineering a car that complies to all of the SAE rules, simulating aerodynamics and the chassis and of course building a carbon fiber monocoque is way harder than reworking an existing car.
@@RedHatMedia I'd say they have different complexities in their own right, but regardless both programs are fantastic for us students to learn some good stuff
@@RedHatMedia it doesn't necessarily have to be a CF monocoque...our team ran a space frame. Some stressed skin panels. And CF control arms. But still, i get what you're saying. Plus the chassis design can be changed every 2 or 3 years rather than every year. Plus aero isn't necessary. Depends on how complicated you want the car to be. If you're a new team you can run something simple with a single cylinder engine.
This is amazing. I graduated with an aerospace engineering degree and now work in the automotive field, but I wish I had an opportunity to do something like this in college.
