Just heard you talk about the gentleman’s daughter that said you were part of family after just a few months, same here, you have become a staple in our routine learning every day. Thank you:)

Thanks Marc for putting your skimmer back together for us, I have always been a bit apprehensive about taking one completely apart and you made it look so easy.

you were way more patient with the guy ,who called you lame, than I would have been.We at work had crucial pumps and one was idle and ready to valve in ,in case of failure. But an engineer thought to cycle one on one off and schedule maintenance on one when prudent.Good plan BUT they both failed at the same time when needed and that was the end of that.BC keep up the good work

Don't dip your clean up crew. Pssht. I painstaking scrubbed a dozen snails for a month with peroxide to remove turf algae. They all lived, although it was quite a lot of work.

That sounds awful. Technically they should be cleaning each other. I almost always get pristine critters.

@@melevsreef It was not fun, usually they are too, but got them from a different shop than I usually go to. They were shiny shiny though (:

Running two pumps simultaneously is not equivalent to having a backup-- it just means you have two pumps approaching their end-of-service at the same rate instead of one. Are they likely to fail simultaneously? No. But does it save you any work, money, or time over just having a spare pump in the closet? Also no. Just more $ spent on pumps and plumbing.

Use vibrant with extreme caution. I’d start with half(or less) the recommend dosage and see how your tank responds. I could go into why but I don’t want to write several paragraphs on my experience.

melevsreef saying several paragraphs was a bit of hyperbole but I added it to a fish only tank only to find that about 30 minutes later many of my fish were at the bottom of the tank not swimming and looking like they would die soon. I immediately did a large water change. It was about 24 hours before the affected fish started acting somewhat normal although ever since that incident the behavior of those fish has been drastically different. Normally outgoing fish are constantly scared. This happened about 3 months ago. I suspect there isn’t a lot of space between overdosing and a safe effective dose which is why I’d recommend using a low dose. I never tried it again for obvious reasons but on the bright side it did get rid of my algae issue for a few weeks.

@@DavidDavis311 Thats an experience i havent heard before. Ive used it for years, on and off, in a mixed reef with fish and the fish have never even noticed anything at all was dosed to the water. Ive alwayed use the recommended dosage amount when ive need to use it (bubble algae).

How in the world do people get away with water changes once a month? I changed water 5 days ago and nitrates was 30 today! Usually they are 5 after a water change and 10 right before in both my 10 and 36 gallon no skimmer! My 10 gallon I feed corals 2 x a week with reefroids so I am sure thats why. I change water every 7 to 10 days. I do change about 35 percent so maybe changing to much. The 36 was the one that was so high today. I just added 14 frags but havnt feed them yet. Could this be why? I plan to hook up skimmer tomorrow. I use a filter sock and change once every 3 days. I have gfo and carbon in the sock
and also some purigan in a bag in sump. I dont dose anything but microbacter clean. If I were to dose a 2 or 3 part and use skimmer and nopox would I be able to get away with less frequent water changes? I also have marine pure balls in sump. I have 2 clown's and a yellow tall damsel

And my gosh. That first 40 seconds of just no sound and tank footage was therapeutic... idk if you already have this but please make a 1 hour video of just the tank with not sound.
