    It is a pity that only 17K watched the documentary. More people, and especially more Turkish people should know and learn about the events which forced the Greeks to leave Istanbul. As have been mentioned in the documentary there is no country without a dark side, but countries should accept and not repeat the same mistakes.

      So true. Knowledge of one's society's or group's dark chapters is an absolute minimum for any prospect of betterment.

    A great documentary, my respect to all those who had to endure such pain and suffering , how history is suppressed in many countries . patriotism in its extreme form is hateful , yet a lot of people are blind to their own heritage being of many other countries . it is the example of love and selflessness that needs to be taught , not hate, paranoia and prejudice .

    There are probably more than 2,000 Greeks living in Istanbul, but many do not know that they are Greek due to forced assimilation. Since its founding, Turkey has pursued a policy of forced assimilation; many lost their true identity and adopted a nationalist as well as fascist Turkish identity.

    Dieter Sauter's program is unique and valuable. I wonder why he was interested in this issue.... Very few people
    know and are concerned about the persecuted Greek minority in Constantinople.

    Ülkelerin tarihinde kara lekeler vardır, Rum vatandaşlarımızın başına gelenler bizim kara lekemizdir, O tarihte İstanbul dışındaydık, gazetelerden, radyo haberlerinden tüm aile nefretle ve hayretle izlediğimizi hatırlıyorum. 70 li yılda Londra' ya seyahatimizde kaldığımız otelin işleticisinin Rum olduğunu anladığımızda biraz çekinmiştik, ama sabah lobide bir grup İstanbul dan gelmek zorunda kalmış vatandaş bizi bekliyordu, bize sarıldılar, gözlerinde yaşlarla özlemlerini anlattılar, biz de ağladık hayatımız boyunca üzüldük ve nedenini asla anlayamadık. Biz hep dosttuk, dostluk gördük.

    Who is the woman in the first 2 min? I feel her pain- she is definitely from one of us she belongs to istanbul and istanbul belongs to her. So painful to see them feel like this and gone. And istanbul is now almost not even ours too- i mean ‘turks’. So bad so painful. I watched her may be 100 times saying that ‘city is talking to me’ 😢😢😢

    The same and worst was done to Macedonians in Greece, 8 years earlier. They killed and expelled 300.000 people from their ancestral homes. My mother (5-year old then) and my aunt (14 years) along with other children were forced to run across mine fields. The ones who stayed in Greece were literally forbidden to speak their mother tongue. The exiles had to wait 50+ years to be granted a pass in Greece to go and see their relatives. I'm not saying that one crime justifies another but why is nobody talking about the Macedonian genocide in Greece???
    p.s.
    The Greeks from Turkey now live in my ancestors houses and land.

      When in the civil war you take the part of the side that lost,plus you wanted to incorporate the region to Yugoslavia this is what you get. Greek communists endured great sufferings for their participation in the civil war too and also greek children were deported to the eastern block so dont act like it was something that was applied only to Slavs of Macedonia,and this is definately not the same thing as the one portrayed in this video,because these things in Turkey happened in times of peace.Dont get me wrong i feel really sorry for the innocent kids that had to suffer such a fate because of the political turmoil,but this was the case for greek kids of communists too,dont make it seem like only the Slavs were targeted

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Kostas the shark Nope. 1955 is date of start of these events. It is spread over time and only lightest events took place in 1955. The real ones happened after 1955. You are the one who spreads nationalist propaganda.

    • @samet033
      @samet033 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kostas the shark Only 2 greeks have been killed in İstanbul pogrom. Not that many. Plus Their populaiton were 30-40k in 1955. EOKA and cyprus crisis turned people against greeks. Since some greek nationalists were siding with EOKA and even helping them. Government deported 12K greeks in 1964. And almost same number left turkey(not deported) in 1974. They basically felt people don't like them anymore and left the country. Yes there were some attacks against greek shops etc. but they took place only in 1955 istanbul pogrom, where 2 greeks have been killed. Well, after 1974, there were only 6-7k greeks left in istanbul.
      That's why I said you are spreading nationalist propaganda. Things you say aren't true.

    • @samet033
      @samet033 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kostas the shark EOKA was a ultra-nationalist organization which killed many civilians. for 'enosis' plan. Enosis was also an ultra-nationalist plan. They tried to get rid of turks in order to unite the island with greece. They ignored willings of turks and murdered them. And of course people were/are hating eoka since it had no difference than a terrorist organization. The claims that nationalist greeks helping eoka and eoka's killing 800 turks in 2 months in cyprus made government deport 12K greeks.(Most of them were bussinessmen). That's what it has with I said.

      '' In a speech on 4 September 1962, at Panayia, Makarios said "Until this Turkish community forming part of the Turkish race which has been the terrible enemy of Hellenism is expelled, the duty of the heroes of EOKA[113] can never be considered as terminated." ''

      @Kostas the shark
      At Christmas 1963 the Greek Cypriot militia attacked Turkish Cypriot communities across the island, and very many men, women, and children were killed. 270 of their mosques, shrines and other places of worship were desecrated.
      On 28 December 1963 the Daily Express carried the following report from Cyprus: "We went tonight into the sealed-off Turkish Cypriot Quarter of Nicosia in which 200 to 300 people had been slaughtered in the last five days. We were the first Western reporters there and we have seen sights too frightful to be described in print. Horror so extreme that the people seemed stunned beyond tears."

    i understand everything i understand why turks decided to do so at that time they wanted to seperate greeks from turks by sending them to greece even though it is sad that was right decision to make i am saying this as a turk this prevented later problems to come
