Reminds me of being late for school. When this song came out in 1971 it was Top 40 on the pop list and my parents always had the alarm clock radio set to the pop channel. I knew if the DJ started playing Elton John I was in trouble. Haha, good memories. Thanks for sharing!
I was the tiny dancer in the early 70's. I loved everyone of Elton John's songs but this one particularly hit home. Got to see him live one time. Lucky me and I will remember it forever. Hollywood Bowl.
Thank U for this. I'm older than probably most writing comments, but have always enjoyed Elton John, especially when he first came out. The words lyrics he writes always moved me and after so many years divorced and not looking for anything ~ out of no where some one appeared and once again these lyrics mean something . Thank you mithridates6, will be dropping in more.
I'm sure when my generation grow up, we'll look back at and recall the 'nostalgic tracks' from our youth, and I'm fairly certain that a good amount of young people may call those artists talented geniuses as well. Music is constantly in motion.. Even back in the 60's 70's 'n' 80's there was a lot of shit tracks xD. One hit wonders constantly appear, I can name a good amount of songs that have been produced in the past couple of years! :)
Patrick Jakobsen God I hope not. I am in the middle ground of the generations, and I think 90% of today's music is complete trash and no where near several bands of this era.
Three things. First, I absolutely adore this song. Second, you'd have to be crazy NOT to love this song. And third, I love how all of Elton John songs are longer :)
Me too! I actually knew the song years before Almost Famous, because my parents played a heck of a lot of Elton John when I was a kid. I was kinda scared when I realized I knew all the words when I saw the movie.
"Elton John sings of a very small sized dancer. Rate, comment, and enjoy, and remember that I DO NOT own this song." OH REARRRRY? YOU DON'T OWN THIS SONG?! THANKS FOR CLEARING THAT UP FOR US!
Elton's Jon's voice was at its finest when he recorded this; the resonance is almost as good as Harry Nilsson's, and there is none finer. One hears echoes of this in older songs and newer, but here it rings like the bells od heaven. Wasn't Bernie Taupin married to a ballerina?
No problem man, it is for people like you and I that enjoy meaningful music that I make these videos. And if you have a request song you'd like me to upload, feel free to ask. :D
Saw this in Almost Famous yesterday and realized that I knew the song. Had to ask my mom what it was called. I didn't know how I knew it at first but I knew every word.
He saw the great beauty of the tiny dancer and the memory and his love for her will always be with him.The song was written by Elton's writing partner Taupin and not by Elton himself and it's about Maxine Feibelmann, who is Taupin's wife.
@16coly uploading is pretty simple. You can either record what you want on your computer itself and see if the application has an upload to youtube option (I used Camtasia to make this video), or, if you use a camera or handheld device, you need to download that onto your computer then upload it to youtube.
So different from what I'd been used to in England. And they all wanted to sew patches on your jeans. They'd mother you and sleep with you - it was the perfect Oedipal complex."Taupin adds that the "tiny" was poetic license, although these women were all petite. And "Tiny Dancer" sounds a lot better than "Small Dancer" or "Little Dancer."
