there were several other audiophile stores along 4st, One was K&W Audio, and another very high end audio store which i forgot the name. There was a theater call Tivoli which often show X-rated film. There was the Mission Liquor store as well. There were a few medical offices along the 4st as well.
no wonder there is no private video footage of calgary before 1990's, the prosumer video camera cost +10k back then, where 10k is worth a lot. like a big down payment for a house
Very cool! As a 4G Albertan who lived in Calgary in the mid to late 90's I always find it fun to drive back and look around to see just how much the city has changed in just a few years... I was planning on doing a trip last month down from El Capital for the closing of Eau Claire Market however the Cineplex shuttered early so I scrapped the trip... Ah well in 2-4 years it will look totally different again when the Green Line is finished... Incidentally my Grandfather passed at the Colonial Belcher a few decades ago so I know the building well... And my grandma passed away at what was once the Holy Cross also in the same area but just a bit further South...
After watching a few of these videos from the 90s in Calgary.. anyone else notice how there is no snow in the ground in may? I have this memory of snow being all over until June.. or are we just being told it was colder 30 years ago?
In that Sony store, early '91, I bought some speakers from there, with an active driver and a passive driver. Used them to DJ a bit and they died about 5 years ago. Lasted me a long time. Maybe at 1:34, those might have been the speakers.
I bought a Sony CD boombox from that Sony store, the CFD-5 in 1985, still have it and use it, the radio still works well, the CD sort of still works but why use it with mp3 players now, the tape player seized up long ago. No place to repair it now after almost 40 years…

Thank you
That overpass over 4 St, south of
17th, is fascinating. What was it removed? Why did it exist?

I think it varied year to year but often there could be a dump of wet snow in May - a real drag on the May long weekend!
@@KB-gb3xb haha that’s the truth!
So fun 2see....
Things sure have changed since then.
I climbed those trees in Central Park so many times.
My grandparents were married at First Baptist in 1948. They also had their 50th anniversary celebration there in 1998.
We don't do enough to preserve our heritage here in Calgary.
4:04 - the building on the left, I had a buddy that lived there. In 1994/5 there was a child that fell from that building. The things you remember.

i bought a SONY STR-V25 receiver from the sony store, in the 1980's. I paid $249, no GST tho :D
@@bennylava8717 The days of no PST(Alberta) and no GST, the MSRP was what you paid up front, those were the days.
