I thought Tom the better fighter too. Didn't understand why Tom didn't start with a locked triangle like the Gracie Barra guy did so wasn't an equal starting point in my eyes
Watching this 10 years after my first white belt tournament: Good stuff, good heart, keep training guys. Remembering my first white belt tournament from 10 years ago: TO THE DEAAAAAAAAAATHHHH!!!! Spaz mode engaged!
@@Tacticalteabag Yeah bro you exactly right. I roll twice and do muay thai twice a week. Finally getting the hand of stuff and i can pull new stuff of aswell in sparring. + i dont insta get submitted with my coach anymore LOL. Its quite nice and im thinking of joining beginner tournements. Thanks for asking bro!!!
Its amazing how good White Belts can be. I think a good White Belt could submit the majority of untrained people. Which just shows how good and effective Jiu Jitsu is a self defense art.
\a tip from one GB to another, when you are having a hard time with the triangle, grab you ankle and keep you foot in there hip. Put your other hand on your own knee as a frame. He can no longer smash your triangle. Then you need to shoulder walk backwards as fast as you can. There will stretch them out letting you figure 4 the leg easier and tighter. Also turn your foot out and crunch the knee into your calf as you squeeze. It will make for a much tighter triangle
GB Denver here. Great performance and perseverance when it looked like you were toast. ALSO Nice job ignoring all the trolls providing unsolicited "advice". Keep it up! 💪🏽
Well done man!! That must’ve felt good to win the tournament 😎 I’m doing BJJ 4 weeks now so this was good to watch, I can just barely follow it 😂 best of luck in the next one 👍🏻
From the arm of my chair, these fights had a lot going on just like a lot of the other fights I have seen, the only difference I notice is that higher belts conserve energy more, especially in really safe positions.
Good stuff! When you attempted the first triangle, crunch the torso and control the head (posture). If you had pulled the head, you could have finished him there! Great job though, very fun to watch!
yo opino que el otro compadre el con rasgos asiáticos mantuvo el control con mucha tecnica. Era rapido y eficaz en el momento de escapar de los sometimientos el mostraba conocimientos conocia bien las tecnicas. Igualmenta felicitaciones y dale tu corte
Video showed up in my recommendations, I know its almost a year later and your game as likely improved quite a bit while you were stuck trying to triangle his left arm was free at 3:12 kimura the arm if possible. This is advice from a fellow white belt who has issues finishing with just the triangle.
Not sure how this got into my recommendations but good job! Keep your toes planted on the ground with the soles of your feet facing down when in someone's guard though. It will improve your posture dramatically and make it much harder to be unbalanced and swept.
Got my first EBI / first tournament soon nov 13th as a white belt thanks for the vid! Hitting the 201-250lb weight group im nervous... any advice from and bjj bros and sisters would be appreciated immensely!
Nice job bros. Good roll. Loved the sportsmanship. I'm another white belt warrior about to enter one of these in February. Same organizers, Goodfight. So, in this ruleset, do you have to do takedowns or can you butt-scoot menacingly? It looked like the ref stood you up after disengaging.
My biggest issue when I compete is coaches on the sideline I get why they do it but just let us do our thing the reason i do not like it when I compete is it gives away my traps I’m setting up or things I might be goin for an my opponent hears it then they are alert to it
Not sure why this was recommended, but I enjoyed watching! Nice fights. Why did the guy get to start with a locked-in triangle in the first fight in OT? That seems pretty cheap.
It is a submission only tournament no points or penalties. It's kinda like most OT first one to score wins. Some tournaments are points and theres usually a winner that way. I'm not sure what happens after they both escape triangle never seen it get that far.
Tbh, I thought you were the other guy in the first match and thought to myself "This dude isn't as good as blondie. Why post it?" Then, I realized you were the one I hoped you were. Haha.
God dam this was so hard to watch. It basically just reminded me of all the early mistakes i used to make. Hopefully next time you get arm triangled, you'll push against his head. I am still a 3 stripped white belt but i am used to rolling, tapping out the higher belts. Maybe i'll see you around, sumday? Best wishes. Live, learn. 😎 Thanks for sharing
Can’t lie I was rooting for Tom
Solid dude for sure!
Wish I didn't read the comments before watching :/
I thought Tom the better fighter too. Didn't understand why Tom didn't start with a locked triangle like the Gracie Barra guy did so wasn't an equal starting point in my eyes
@@ezigwe I thought the same thing. Tom started with his foot at his calf.
Gotta love some white belt action. That coach yelling the whole time was pretty good.
Super çalm clean instructions.
Bro I was thinking the same thing. Coach staying calm and giving simple instructions. Submission only seems like a completely different game
usually if your a blue belt or higher the coach just kinda sits back and is like “phhhh he’ll win”😂💀
@@ianclements5905 Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t waste so much energy going for a takedown when points don’t matter. Just pull guard and get to work lol
Wonder if they went to Wawa or got a hoagie after the tournament? #StrongPhillyAccent
I'm exhausted just from watching
Literally. I just refuse to believe 2 white belts did this for 10 minutes

Some say they're still looking for Gabriel Montezuma
God bless 🙏
white belt match is always the most interesting part of a bjj tournament
Why?

Same here i started last month. Cant wait until im ready to compete

you grab your shin not your ankle, you can mess up your ankle , and you will have better control holding on to shin
@@brucewillis2486 especially us skinny shin dudes
@@brucewillis2486 I can confirm that, you should go for the shin.
gotta love the gas tank of a white belt. savages.
Great fights sir, you give us rest of the white belts hope, plus it was nice to see that judo take down attempt in the 1st match
Congratulations! Really good competition for White belts. Every match was hard fought
Looked like fun good luck in future competition. That quote behind the winners podium is the USJA credo, by Teddy Roosevelt

when 12 minutes hit and you realized Tom was not the main character...
Facts the whole time I thought I was rooting for the Asian kid
Good shit! Keep training
Best one I’ve watched yet!
Good job Gracie Barra!!! Much respect, from GB Kapolei Hawaii!!!
Great to hear from ya!
Amazing rolls, much respect and congrats on the victory. Very inspiring for my own upcoming first competitions
Just the amount of time of this match is a great achievement.

I love watching white belt matches.
Same especially as a white belt lol
Good work man! Some hard fought battles.
Great job man, best of lucks to you 👍🏻
good fight fellas. good sportsmanship all around, fun to see you go all the way to the #1 spot!
Good stuff mate. Way to stick out that last round.
Gotta love it, that guy in the first part of the vid is from my gym Gracie barra
That was awesome! Love the little medal fix at the end too
wonderful match for last one
That young man earned it.
WTG Jake. Inspiring brother!
Let's go tom! U have an amazing supportive coach!
This looks like so much fun!
I love the coach saying "get your head free" like any other thought is going through his mind lol

Omg congratulations man!
Nothing goes harder than a hungry white belt!

When Toms Head was in the leg lock would it be legal to pick the guy up and slam him?
No cant do that you would get dq
Not in BJJ competitions, in MMA he could and is usually the best way out
