    Always great with Mick Taylor at guitar. I’ve said it before these were the best years. 69-74. No question. The reason Mick Taylor.

    Man oh man! This is one of the best live versions I've heard yet. Keith's guitar is the whole thing. Sure, Mick Taylor is brilliant, too. Stones were best in the world in '71, and they knew it.

      I wanted to play guitar along with the song, and then I heard Mick Taylor and that blew me away and I stopped playing, only hearing, fantastic.

      All the fills are Mick Taylor . Keith does the opening rhythm and the lead break

      they were even better in 72/73 probably due to the fact they had exile/goad head soup material to provide on stage ! A bit less cover (in 71 they still played lot of berry ) while in both 72 73 they only played bye bye johnny. Anyway great years 71 72 73

    • @bernardjennings3549

      @@fgsp8909 I wonder....magnificent as the band was in 72/73 I kinda preferred them when they were a greasy little rock'n'roll band - 1969 thru 71 or thereabouts.
      The band also played 'Don't Lie to Me', a Chuck Berry number, in 1972, which sounds terrific if you listen to it now. And one of the interesting drawbacks about 'Brussels Affair' is that it indicates what a dud 'Dancing with Mr D' was, whether live or in the studio - the only false note on an otherwise unimpeachable live album.

      On the piano Nicky Hupkins!
      They would best band in the world if Elmer Fudd were playing lead guitar. But yeah! Mick Taylor was there for their best songs, like Brown Sugar and Tumbling Dice.
      Brian played marimbas on their first self- penned masterpiece, Under My Thumb. All right, Brian was a great musician and he started the band and visually (as well as musically, of course), he played a major part in building their early mystique, which is still thriving, 50 + years later. He played slide on I'm a King Bee, the song that turned me into a lifelong Stones fan.I said this ain't no She loves you yeah yeah yeah! I loved and will alwsys love the Beatles, world's greatest pop band, better than the fucking Beach Boys! But for gut bucket rock and roll, the Stones rule! No contest. They did some pure crap songs towards the end, like the worst of the lot, I want you, She's so heavy, which is 8th grade level garbage, and sounds like a kid trying to shoot his load for the third time in one night, sharing a bedroom with his older sister. "Johnnie, what's that smell over there?" Can you smell that, Prudence?" "Its just a little Oh Blah Dee, oh blah dah, Life goes on, Brah!" "What the fuck are you talking about, Johnnie?? That's Paul' song! And the worst song you guys ever did."" " Desmond has a barrow in the market place, Molly is the singer in a band!" I know, I know, it's shit! We don't need to finish it!" "Fuck it all and fuck her fucking Brrrrrrraaaaaat! Rock and roll definitely needs a shot of adrenaline!" "Still, some people like it." The Stones can't pull the wagon alone any more!

      I think that Mick Taylor destroys what Keith does on this song. Too bad ! His constant willing of playing his solos are against the spirit of this song that should remain simple, basic.

    People forget that the original version of this song was on Let It Bleed in 1968,Country Honk.I've read that it was Mick Taylor,when he came aboard,who suggested a rock and roll version.I've seen interviews with Keith where he more or less says the same thing.

    • @klausrain111
      @klausrain111 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      All about Keith, this song. Cowbells were a Jimmy Miller touch in the studio. Cowbell must be a Pavlovian thing for you to get into the groove you want to be in for this song. I feel the same way a little bit. It was a brilliant touch for the radio back in 69 or whenever it came out. They played this dong CONSTANTLY in L.A. back then. L.A. had to be the biggest Stones town in the States in the 60s, by far. Beatles weren't even close. What were they gonna do? Play that nancy song Get Back every half hour? They were looking to hook as many listeners as possible. Shit like Hey Jude and Get Back wasn't gonna do that. L.A. is a car town, as we all know, and this song was perfect for driving around and getting stoned.

    • @drainagecontractor
      @drainagecontractor 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keith it would seem like. Keith is the guitar panned to the left and Mick to the right. It's the guitar to the left that plays the intro riff which I would assume is Keith

    • @starcycle1
      @starcycle1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your speakers might be backward. Keith is on the right, playing the rhythm/intro and the solo.

    • @postoffice146
      @postoffice146 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, must be Keith playing that solo in open-g tuning, it's not a very complicated solo, so it's possible to play in open tuning. Sounds good.

    • @johnjendzurski3242
      @johnjendzurski3242 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Keith doesn't ALWAYS play the guitar solo on this. It seems like the only thing that remains constant in live performances of HTW is Keith's signature/legendary guitar chords to open the song (which even HE plays differently just about every time). I do think it it sounds like Keith is playing the guitar solo here though.

      Don't get me wrong, I adore them. They've made some of the most glorious music ever. But live, I've been disappointed by them more often than any other band.
      I think I was at this show, and as good as this sounds, it was less than memorable. Jagger was sneering at the audience because they weren't reacting as he would have liked. A week later I saw The Faces at the same venue (Roundhouse?), and it was an absolute joy of an evening.
      But, yeah... I didn't really need to make the comment here. Sorry
