It's always nice and appreciated when a narrator takes the time and makes the effort to bring the book alive for his/her listeners . Or when they put in the same passion they would if reading to their own children. Tremendous. Ian Flemming was ahead of his time. And the reader reads brilliantly.
Absolutely! Fleming's writing is a so sensual, deep, observational, cerebral, nuanced. No pop influences, so little on gadgets, the woman are allies and brilliant and darling and brave and bold, I went from clive cussler to Fleming. Bond pace is steady.

What's really scary is if you read a Bulldog Drummond story or some Dennis Wheatley and realise how progressive ian Fleming was compared to British thriller writers of an earlier generation.
Oh my gosh, I was just thinking the same thing. I’m going through the books in order and I’ve been kind of blown away by how ahead of their time these books are. The last one had Bond outsmarted by a woman and nearly rendered sterile, which leads him to question his own masculinity and grow as a man. Really great stuff. I’m not done with this one yet but so far considering how many times they’ve used the word negro I’m really surprised by how Bond and his colleges just immediately thought it was odd at the time for a black man to be a big criminal. That’s wild considering what I had been expecting from this series.
Agree 100%. Had never read P&P before I had seen that specific series (PBS in Canada) but I had read it before the series was over, and a few times since. I've only found one poor quality version on youtube since. Looking forward to L&LD. Was delighted when I found out it was to be Rintoul reading.
I’m glad we kind of got book accurate bond with Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig(in character) with just how cold and calculating they were with a heart of gold and how casino Royale was pretty book accurate mostly but DAMN so I wish we got a bond tv series or movie that actually adapted the stories page for page word for word on screen. I get it’s redundant because books are just written movies in your mind but seeing a 1950s black and white spy movie with Bond where he’s just a pure machine would be awesome.
Yes, sir. You can tell it was written back in the '50s. It would certainly have to be rewritten in parts today. Taking that in consideration, I agree with you - it's Bond.
There's nothing in this universe or timeline or any other that deserves to be called "cringey." Nothing! That word didn't even exist when this novel was published, so it's unfair to use the word to describe the book.
‘Racism” is the judgement of another’s behavior or value based primarily on race. Words that were accepted as non-derogatory social descriptors at the time are not “racist”, they are “old”…(kind of like the overuse of the term “racism”)
This sounds like the Narrator was reading this over a Prison telephone. Not the best. 😐 Actually it's bloody awful. No. No thanks. I'm off to find better. 😁
No, it's not "bloody awful." And don't say "No thanks." Nobody offered you this. You're the one who decided to click on this video. And there's no need for those mocking emojis.
@@imfsresidentotaku9699 What do you mean "Nothing was offered"? Anything uploaded is 'OFFERED' for everyone to view right? So what are you talking about? You are imagining a lot of words and intent that absolutely do not appear in my comment. I do say "no thanks" because it's the polite way to decline something you don't want. 2:51- no American would understand the word subway to mean underpass. It only means that underground train that you find in big cities.

how wonderfully politically INcorrect 😆
Brilliant narration - FANTASTIC 👍🏼🙏🏼
1954....long, long before incorrect or correct politics and never written to be one or the other. I know. I was alive then.
Im revisiting 007 from start to finish. Joy ❤
As a black guy, there are quite cringey parts to this novel. As a Bond fan however, it's a good time overall. 👍

Robert Whitfield (who did audiobooks for all the 007 novels) probably refused to read this book coz of all the racial slurs
