does gav, answer youtube comments? if not for a video of gavs, id have never been able to get to grips with manual, ive only been doing photography 14 months.. and totally get this.
i use zones all the time, in fact. i cant use M mode any other way. the light meter and zones in spot and M. its so brilliant
I was talking to a photography tutor.. and disscussing this, he thought I'd been doing it years. I haven't. I just worked at the zone system tyle of exposing images.
and soon realized, the meter is just a PRE-histogram why check the histogram? control the pre histogram. I love it :) thanks gav, its a real real powerful tool

If my camera has 14 or 12 stops of dynamic range. How does 10 zone system works?

yes, because although all the companies claim that their latest greatest camera has a dynamic range of 14 stops, they probably have 7 at the max. unless you are shooting a medium format digital which has a usable of about 9, even then the zone system is a maths based system to allow you to get the best out of your 'negative' be it actual negative or digital.

Omar Quintana No matter how many stops of dynamic range your camera has, just know that 255 will always be pure white and 0 will be pure black.
