  • What a day for my video diary! Today I visited Diane in Masterton who has just the most amazing collection of collectable and vintage dolls and dollhouses. Not to mention vintage toys, school journals, games, and more!!
A bit like a 'Busman's Holiday' really! So, I had to share some of it with all my subscribers. It is an amazing collection and a lot of it will feature in the next edition of my magazine "Miniature Time Traveller'. For this post I just share the tip of the iceberg really, but what a tip!
The dollhouse is an amazing Victorian-era house that Diane imported from England. It has the original curtains and wallpaper in many rooms, and has been furnished with pieces from Diane's vast vintage collection. All are in keeping with the period of the house, and most are from the Victorian era.
If you ever visit New Zealand let me know and I can introduce you to Diane. I can truly say a visit to her collection would justify the airfare for any miniaturist!!
This is day 270 in my video diary 'A Year in the Life of a Miniaturist'. For those new to my channel, this is not a diary where I post a lot of tutorials. It's more about recording my miniature endeavours as I work on my various miniature projects.
That said, I do occasionally share some ideas folks may be interested in. So do make sure you subscribe to my free projects playlist. Check it out and grab the free downloads!
For now, best wishes to all, Jill.

I am so glad that you enjoyed it Coby. There is nothing better than sharing these beautiful miniatures with others. Diane's collection is so extensive that it has given me lots of materials for two feature articles on it in the next two issues of my magazine. Too much to cover in one story. Quite amazing! Regards, Jill

Perhaps visit Diane again to show us more? I enjoy seeing old houses, especially when having unique items in the rooms. Both rugs are lovely, and the decoupaged cabinets are sweet for a child's room.

Hi Maroulio. Yes, Diane has a large collection of dollhouses and they are all unique. I will post some more photos for sure in the future. Also, I plan to do a couple of feature articles on it in the upcoming issues of my miniatures magazine; Miniature Time Traveller. Regards, Jill

What lovely unique pieces she has. The piano key cabinet is an outstanding example of 'use what you've got' recycling. TFS Jill & Diane.

Diane has collected this large amount of dollhouses to 'save' them and has a small museum for school visits and visitors to enjoy and marvel over.

Hello Jill, what a lovely house, the contents are wonderful, the Victorians were very inventive, I can just imagine the Vicar beavering away at old piano keys to make miniature pieces.
Have a lovely rest of the week.
Best Wishes from Yorkshire, England 🇬🇧 😊

You are so welcome! Pity I don't know anyone with a useless piano. My friends play theirs. They might miss a few keys! When I looked closely at that little piece I was amazed at the quality of the work. That is a story lost, right. Who was the vicar and what else did he make, we will never know.

It's a slippery slope but it opens up a lot of doors to many interests. And I have learnt so much history over the last 20 odd years.

I have been there a few times and always see something I missed before. I will cover off more of her houses in my magazine. There is one which is of superb workmanship, made probably at the turn of the century and you cannot fault a thing. The finish is amazing. And she knows nothing about the person who made it except where it came from. I find that really sad.
