I’ve looked for an OG JDCH at a palatable price for years, but no luck. All the ones I came across were $500 plus. I passed on all of them. I was able to get a new release for a reasonable price, but unfortunately not retail. I am thrilled to try any CH. It’s 128+ proof and shy of 11 years as well. I haven’t popped it, but I will soon. Thanks for the analysis. It sounds like a winner. I’d still like to get an OG, but it’s probably a long shot. On a side note, I bet we’ll see a 15 year JD in 2025. Cheers!
Unfortunately OG Coy Hill has risen to pretty crazy secondary prices. Up to around 700-1000 now depending on proof. I had to trade to get mine reasonably.
Great review as always other than giving me FOMO. I’ve Never found a CH for less than $400 (this year’s) or $600 in the past so I’ve always passed. Love the special release Jack that I’ve been able to try but I don’t pay secondary much…At least not yet I did recently find a shelfer at 137 proof. I’ve tried the neck and it was really good but I can’t wait to give it a couple weeks and see how it does below the shoulder
Nice one BB, I hear a lot of people want a bottle, is it down to luck, queuing or networking 😉I can't imagine it just hanging out on the shelf. 🥃Cheers mate
Yeah it’s not going to be easy to get but I think this release is large so hopefully more people get a chance and because it’s not hazmat people are not as hyped but they are still hyped lol
@@bourbonbill alls some ppl care about is the proof instead of actually trying and comparing on their own. If it was another high proof release it would have to be younger barrels and would take the significance out of this release. Both releases and special in their own way and keeps things fresh. Enjoy what you can, when you can, with who you can 🥃.
Yes I did. I did a review on it last year but I loved it. Super dark and rich flavors. My only criticism is I wish it was proofed higher. It also made my top 10 ryes of 2023 list as well
You were talking about warehouse floors ... I knew top floor yielded highest proof so assumed that lowest floor (and therefore coolest?) would yield lowest proof. But there's a site you can go to that lists the average proofs for Old Forester Barrel Strengths for each warehouse *by floor* and, to my surprise, the lowest proofs are often found on the *middle* floors. I wonder why that would be?
I also will likely never see a bottle of coy hill ever. I just try to find shelf JD SBBP at the highest proof i can get. Maybe I'll get lucky in the PA lottery 😂 I'm speculating they'll release a coy hill rye at some point and BourbonBill will lose his mind.
I’ve gotten almost all the JD LEs at msrp not this one but when it comes to PA I might lol I get that in control states it’s more common but a lot of these were also sold in NJ for about 20 clams over retail so not bad there either
I’m grateful JDBP is a shelfer and would LOVE to get my hands on a coy hill, but it’s just not common enough. Glad to see you get your hands on one!
I hope you find one I think this release was fairly large
Great review...I appreciate it..!!
Thanks for watching
Great analysis BB!
Thanks Mike!
Bourbon is my favorite! Keep your tips up!
I’ll do my best sir

Well the new one is very close to the OG so I wouldn’t worry too much. Also JD14 is out next year lol

I need one! 😢 thanks for the video ~
I need a second one lol

Wow that’s a real high proof for a shelfer enjoy it man!
I think JD is going to change to 700 ml bottles overall. I've noticed this with the Bottle in Bond whisky and rye. Cheers.
It’s looking that way sadly
To this day , the best nose on any whiskey I’ve had was a 146 Proof JDCH. That includes a 22 KOK 15 YR, 22 WLW, and a HH17. Cheers! 🥃
The OG coy hill has a unique scent for sure that’s not common even among other JDs. This new coy hill comes close on the nose though!
I have the 146.4 JDCH 😁

Your mileage may vary. They all sound delicious although. I have a 131.1 & a buddy 127.1. Can’t wait to open
Yeah even though they were different both were excellent you should enjoy them no matter the proof

@@FPHE8956agree completely
Wish I could find a bottle of Coy Hill!
I hope you get one some states like PA haven’t dropped theirs yet
Mine is 127.4 proof and delicious. I found a backup but they wanted $270 for it and I passed. Great review today.
If you find another let me know I’m going to drink this one way too fast lol
I’d buy it all day at $270
Yeah you goofed for not picking up at 270
did you ever try the heritage select twice barreled rye from JD ? If you did - what were your thoughts? TIA

@@bourbonbill I apologize for not seeing that review. I scooped one up today , happy Christmas. 🎄
@@thurstonhowell-3merry Christmas and great snag here in 2024 it’s a great rye for sure I have a backup of it lol
I don’t know about Costco but the best barrel pick I ever got was a Sam’s club pick, lol.
Old Sam must do it better lol
We wanted the comparison to RR15!!! Now we have to wait.
Yep for whiskey of the year competition
@ looking forward to it!

That is interesting except old forester heat cycles their warehouses so that might have something to do with it
I’m guessing heat cycling?
I’ll never see it but now I at least know what I’m missing
I hope you find one Larry! Don’t give up hope

Haha i would lose my mind
The 2021 version is a banger. Haven't had anything since. Just to hard to find.
Yeah these are not easy to find but sure are delicious
I'll never see it anywhere but I think I'd actually prefer the lower proof of the 2024 over the HAZMAT.
Yeah I can see how some people absolutely will and I’m still undecided myself
Is it worth 400? That’s the best price I can find in Colorado.
I hate that kinda price. I’d say 250 max unless you are trading something it’s comparable to RR15
@ thanks!
Essentially just buy anything from JD in that bottle shape.
Absolutely except that single malt they did lol
none of jd le are sold at msrp..not even close..most will never have any of them
