    Kai mentioned that he wanted to do another prolonged video of the tracks of his second album like the Kai:film since he know Fans really enjoyed it last year, however because of his busy schedule this year they didn't have time to do it for his second album but we got vanilla track prolonged video which is beautiful. I'm loving how he is showcasing more of his vocals this time because we all love his unique nasal sweet vocals 😍

    One thing I love abt Kai is that he's not afraid to take risks and experiment. Peaches is a statement that he's not just the sexy dancer or the singer with a sexy voice. Not only the tt, the whole album shows his vocal prowess and the songs sound so sweet and refreshing too that it really blew my mind.

    There's a lot of Greek mythology/story references which I could see in the Prologue. The most obvious is the story of Narcissus, when he was looking at himself in the pool of water.
    Caves have a lot of significance in Greek myth, sometimes being considered the entrance to the underworld. Kai calling himself the bad guy could be him putting himself in the position of Hades, convincing Persephone to eat the fruit of the underworld to stay with him (in the original a pomegranate, in this retelling, perhaps a peach).
    Caves were also supposed to be where people would go to receive prophecies from oracles. And while it's not technically part of mythology, Plato's allegory of the cave, which is about how people who have only lived in a cave their whole lives, and only seen reality as presented by shadows on the wall, would lack an innate understanding of the world - i.e. the only way to know the truth is to go out and see it yourself. The parts of the Prologue which showed the shadows of Kai dancing on the cave wall really reminded me of that.

    • @sayaneemaaneetgupta
      @sayaneemaaneetgupta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I also thought it refers to the story of Narcissus. Regarding the cave and the girl, I felt it was Indicating towards Echo, the woman who fell in love with Narcissus.

    There are references to so many mythological features in his mv and also the Prologue film. Kai is like a mythical creature, an ancient god. Plato's cave, the myth of Narcissus, Orpheus and Euridice for starters, the garden of Eden, Sinbad and I'm sure other Korean cultural elements. This is so interesting. One thing I can say about the whole comeback is that everything related to it leaves with a feeling of floating.

    at first, Peaches (the song) didn't hit me that hard. But the more I listened to it and noticed the little special additions to the instrumentals, it started to become addictive. just the intro itself is so magical. I think kpop listeners are sooo used to loud songs with lots of changes that something that is just mellow and sweet is kind of jarring to them. Peaches forces you to slow down and just let it wash over you. Love that!

    Kai executed this album so well and it is so well thought out (as always). It was hard and almost close to impossible to outdo his first album that was just incredible to say the least, but I really think he did it. This album feels very dreamy and warm and there's something so special about it. Kai seems to be extremely proud of it and he should be!

  • @zab8291

    PD writing a whole book on the concept of Peaches had me lmao SM should just hire you now. Its really interesting you pick on points and stuff most people don't. As you said, the MV is just so much more visually pleasing and i'm so glad you mentioned his "cheekiness" because literally that was the whole video, his tactics on the clouds "riding it", so many such moments which exactly how it seeks you in and vibe with it more. Like Kai's attitude and his persona which makes you fall for it.
    This album indeed did showcase his artistry and took his vocals to a next level in my opinion so i'm glad you'll check out the album too. Its softer and slower than his first so not sure how much you'll like it compared but its def. more my taste.

From the song, outfit, dance, and MV set there's his idea in all of them. I love your reaction so much because you stated exactly what i want to say! Definitely saw kai artistry side even more through this album and MV. I love how he showed us him as an artist very deeply here

    kai did mention in an interview that he was going for a sort of god concept, and how that is represented in different cultures. he also talked about how similar to how zeus when he descends is different people, he wanted something similar in the mv, which is why he had such different sets.

  • @deux8
    @deux8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +97

    I agree with a lot of your thoughts here. if you listen to Peaches only, you may not find it as impactful until you actually watch the MV. I am more of a visual person and just first watch, it was very pleasant to watch. Not because of Kai's visuals (a given) and his vocals but the overall aesthetic with the marriage between old school x modern feels (in terms of the outfits). The transition of the video is SUPER good too. It's just a great music video.

    Accdg to Kai, the choreography of the dancers at the first part of the mv is reminiscent to their wolf's iconic tree of life. So yeah, the Adam and Eve reference is close bec the peach is representing the Apple from the tree of life. Still connected to EXO's lore. Love the costume and the entirety of this video.

    What I love about Kai's solo work so far is that, despite him being a very good dancer, SM didn't give him what would typically be considered 'masculine' music and dances. They didn't give him hard hitting songs that you'd hear in a club. They didn't give him over complicated coreographies that are again, typically masculine. They let Kai go for a route that he himself likes and wants to express. The music videos are always so classy, elegant and artistic. His music takes you to another world if you close your eyes. His dancing is mersemrizing. It's amazing how well Kai expresses both his masculine and feminine side through beautiful, soft movements as well as sharp, precise moves. Kai always stays true to himself and shows us new things with each comeback. His b sides are also masterpieces. I think he's one of my favorite soloists in kpop! I wish him the best, he's doing so well! :)

    omg thank you for saying all of that cause i think there are people who doesn't like the video just because they don't know the context behind it and failed to understand the concept of the video, also they usually compare it with Mmmh MV. I saw a quite a few stage plays back then and i work in creative industry, now i edit videos for a living, so my eyes and my mind easily understand as i watch the video towards the end that this is meant to look like story book, fairytale-ish, stage concept, so i don't feel like this looks cheap whatsoever, it looks nicely done. The effects and lighting are seamless and they are very difficult to do. Plus, I’m familiar with most names of people who worked on this. They are professionals, all regulars who always work with SM and other big names, the best in their field and have worked with Kai in previous MV. But on the other hand my friend who doesn't have the eyes for those kind of things, said that this looks like a cheap production MV lol so yeah i think i get why Kai actually very nervous for the comeback cause he decided to do things more his way than the first one. He was torn between being the Kai that everybody likes and familiar with or go with something unexpected and very different from how he usually is/how the general public portray him as. But I'm glad that he went with the latter one. This album really shows different sides of him and i can feel from listening to all the songs that he is more matured now as a soloist. The MV feels fresh everytime i watch it, and it makes me want to watch it again and again 🍑

    Kai said he was the god of peaches so you're right about that, and so he wants to compare his loves to the sweetness of a peach and peaches signify immortality as well, so he is being the "bad guy" by giving the peach to his lover even though it is forbidden😂 that's why he's acting naughty...the contrast between the "heavens" that he's in and the dystopian world of mmmh is funny as well

    I love this reaction. It's refreshing to see someone who actually focuses on the folklore side to this video which is exactly what KAI is trying to portray through this video and it was probably mostly because you're aware of the lores yourself but your interpretation is actually spot on. KAI did say that he's portraying a God-like being in this video and that peaches signifies something like the golden apple (it's not all about it being the booty emoji y'all). KAI worked so hard on this song. He actually received the song before 'Mmmh' and liked it better as well but it went through 19 revisions in which KAI approached the infamous SM producer, Yoo Youngjin, himself to try and work on it together since he had different ideas on how to do the song with the production team. Damn i'm so proud when you said you can see him as an artist on this one because that means that KAI succeeded since this album is something he's been proudly saying "This is me, what i enjoy, what i want to show"

    When I fist saw the video I immediately thought of Sun Wukong, like you said in the video, and in the other videos I notices other references to other mythology. I just love it all!

    Hi Sir. Here is someone writeup on his albums. For sharing with you.
    Topping iTunes' Top Album charts in at least 58 countries upon its release, the six-tracked delivery is intended to showcase KAI’s most personal side. While KAI (开) was the introduction to what the artist is capable of, Peaches is meant to prove the direction KAI will follow as a solo performer.

  • @ann-oy9uv
    @ann-oy9uv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're right actually, I saw an interview where KAI said he wanted to express the peace of mind that spreads in you after you've gotten through the craving and desire, just like paradise. So he thought of gods, golden apple, eden (peach blossom also refers to garden of eden) etc.
    It links perfectly to how peaches is seen in korean culture just like you mentioned! And I love how the paradise/gods concept inspired him to mix greek mythology (especially in the Prologue Film) and korean traditional culture, you can see it in the aesthetic and in the fashion! So cool

    When you mentioned peaches seen as special fruits to Korean culture, it reminded me that they're also linked to Japanese culture in a similar way.
    Izanagi and Izanami were said to be the two entities that created Japan, but Izanami died after giving birth to one of her kids. Izanagi went after her in the underworld, but in order to bring her back, he had to promise not to look at her face. He eventually did, and saw hwr rotting corpse. Mad after such disrespect, Izanami sent creatures to kill Izanagi. He ran out of the underworld and, when he finally managed to escape the cave he was in, he found a peach tree and used three fruits to ward off the creatures chasing after him. Since it worked, he made this tree grow in "our world" too, so that the fruit could also help common people.
    After remembering this tale bc of your first mention of peaches being important, I saw the other video on a different light, and even the scene of him leaving the cave made me wonder if it was connected to this tale also. Anyways, it was nice to know Korean culture also has an important meaning to this fruit, bc now I can do some cross-studies :) thank you for your analysis PD! Kai's work in this was really on another level.

    PD, you ALWAYS make me really think a LOT more about what is going on in the MV's when I watch your reactions! I got the same ethereal, otherworldly impression from the MV, and even the song a little bit. I definitely think you will enjoy this album. It is much more experimental than his Kai album, and I think he really showed a LOT of growth as an artist. Kai himself also seems a lot more satisfied/pleased with this album. This MV is SO visually appealing, and you're right, it really does enhance the song! Thanks so much for the incredibly detailed and in depth reaction, as always.

I love how you took the time to elaborate upon the story (best interpretation ever, truly) behind the song and the folklore symbolism, thank you a million PD. Also... not at me having the video prepared on a different devise only to be like "hey! he's letting the audio this time..." fast forward, you realizing it was an SM thing >.< hahaha, love you man.
