  • So, if you are offended by Blurb content you might want to skip this film. Or, if you already know how to use Blurb BookWright then you are probably good. Someone reached out and asked me to make this film. I take for granted a lot of things that might be roadblocks for other folks. Like using software, editing images, sequencing, choosing materials, making test books, etc. This is by no means a comprehensive walk-through of this software but it will show you a few things to get started and that is really the point. People waiting for perfection don't make things. They just wait for a time and circumstance that doesn't exist.
    Also, a reminder. All of this should be FUN. If you take your bookmaking and photography so seriously that it drives everyone around you a little bit wacky just back off and take stake in the idea that the vast majority of people in the world are simply looking for food, water, and shelter and to do best for their family. They do not and will not ever care about your work. That's called perspective.
    BookWright is a good piece of software. I use it a lot and have for years so I know how to use it and when. If you haven't used it just remember it is far easier than something like Photoshop or Adobe Premiere. And way more fun than Excel. What's not to like? Any issues let me know.

    Big thanks for this, Mr. Dan. I just started work with Blurb BookWright, for small home/family "memento" photo book, but I wan to this be somthing more then a regular "photo book" that are in every photo shop, and here we have Blurb. It's really helpful intro. Truth, blurb software it's quite easy, but extra info always helpful.

    I enjoy using BookWright. I've created over a dozen Blurb books with it. I've also created books with other self-publish companies using their software applications and also with the Blurb plug-in for Lightroom. I still prefer BookWright for its ease of use and to do what I need quickly and intuitively. I'm in the middle of three more books and have a list of about twenty more that I'm looking forward to creating. I mainly create the books for myself as a cost effective way to physically print my images into bound collections that I can store on a bookshelf or on a coffee table. I have over five decades of images that I'm trying to immortalize in print and leave for family or friends when my time on this Earth is up.

    I used Blurb BookSmart a number of times and it was great except it did get pretty clunky when you had a complex book open. BookWright does seem like it's a far better implementation of the idea.

    Re: audio difficulties- you can try unplugging the laptop and running on battery power to kill the ground loop. I don’t know your exact setup so it may or may not be helpful. Could also be a bad or cheap cable with bad grounding. Hope this can be useful for future videos. Love the channel!

    What's maddening with this app is not being able to select weights from within a font family. I know light, medium, and heavy are in there. I just can't see them through BookWright.

      Whether it is this particular grievance or any other, work to what a system offers not to what it does not. This applies to paper types, trim size, cover materials, page counts, etc. Otherwise you will either lose the joy of the process of you risk making a bad book out of anger. I've seen it happen endless times. And this goes to all print offerings and companies. They all lag in one aspect or another.

    Thanks for another great video! I just decided yesterday to stop procrastinating and learn Bookwright so I can work on my photo book about Panamá. This tutorial couldn't have come at a better time. The one element that you didn't touch on is the "fix" warning symbol. Have you covered this in other videos?

    • @DANIELMILNOR505
      @DANIELMILNOR505  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good news. It won't take you long. It's pretty simple, easy to use, etc. Ah, fix is just saying "Hey, you might want to double check "X." Could be text off the page, low resolution on an image or something else. The fix button is trying to save us from ourselves. And just do you know, I have the warning all the time. You have the option of dismissing all of them.

    What happens when your book is complete though? Are you able to export the project file and print it somewhere local?
    In the UK so I don't think printing from Blurb is an option.

    It's not that I hate your software: but it has nothing to do with writing a book description, also called a "book blurb". So it's misleading and confusing and will generate hatred and then indifference. I have no intention of ever making a cofee table book. I can't say anything good about your product, even if it were good, ignorance aside, because if you will mislead about your product, what else are you dishonest about?
