Sometimes, if you have nothing else, 3 suited low cards that could convert to a straight flush is the correct hold. Even if there is one or two gaps to be filled in. Start holding those if you don't have any pairs or high cards and once in a while you'll hit a straight flush. May the good news be yours! Thanks for the comment.
How can you "be good at" getting anything that's randomized. To be good at something you need skill. The only skill here is getting dealt a hand and knowing how to play it for the most probable outcome.
@@jamesdoire6752 you can make informed statistical choices man. if there is a 52 card deck and certain cards get pulled then there is a higher chance of some cards getting pulled over others, then its just holding the cards that have the highest turnout chance, low pairs are super safe to hold because its quite likely you get some sort of winning hand and two pairs can quite easily convert into higher payout hands like 3 of a kind for example.
What if you are dealt (3) different face cards (A,K,Q) and (2) low cards? Should u hold (2) of the face cards or try to go for a straight and hold all (3) face cards?

Nope. You need to know a lot more than that, Jim. First, a 99.54 EV plus points and comps ain't a bad deal. Now consider that the strategy for this game is easy to learn compared to other games. Especially for the casual player that just wants to get the most out of their time in the casino. Most positive games, if you can find them, have extremely high volatility. Many casual players aren't willing to accept the large losses that they can incur before getting even. That's why the nickname for JOB is "The Old Smoothie". There are other things to take into consideration as well but I think you can see that for casual players a slightly 'negative' EV is only part of the story. Have fun!
Isn't the EV higher with two "paying" high cards vs. holding a low pair? For instance, statistically holding a K Q pays more often than holding two fours. I believe that the math supports this theory over your advice to hold the low pair.
Sorry, it's not even close. The highest two high card (Q,J suited) has an EV of .60 whereas a low pair is .8237. But I'm glad you brought that up because the idea of holding two high over a low pair is a very common mistake. And a very costly one. Thanks for the question.

Nope. The only 3 high card hand that you would hold over a low pair is a 3 to a Royal Flush and of course they would be suited. A low pair is so powerful that there are only four non-paying hands that are better: TJQK Straight, 4 to a flush, 4 to any Straight Flush, and 4 to a Royal Flush. That's it. Again, the power of the low pair is probably the hardest lesson to get across to a new player but the most significant one to learn. Millions are lost in the casino because of it. I always go for low pairs because I will get more if i hit 2s,3s, or 4s. This significantly changed my game. Last night I had K,J,4,4 and I held 44. I got 4422. I play @ red rock casino, vegas and win 95% time.

Keep the pair of Jacks. You are in the money with the pair of jacks.
