- By popular demand in a recent IG poll, in this episode I recap my experience as an 18X-ray, beginning from prior to joining the army, going into OSUT, airborne, SOPC hold, SOPC, Selection, and each phase of the Q course.
I talk about my experiences in each phase of my life at this time, as well as embedding some lessons learned about what to do and what not to do for those listening who are looking to take a similar route (X-ray or non).
This was a trip down memory lane and although I struggle to talk about myself, I found it to be an enjoyable episode. I hope you find it valuable and thanks for listening!

This is the most informative video I've ever seen about the Q/SFAS. Thanks Kevin! Going to start your SFAS Prep this fall. 💪
Much appreciated, man! Thanks for watching and enjoy the program👊
I’m in OSUT right now (turning green pass) as an X-Ray, and the mental aspect is one of the hardest things I’ve had to sit through. The incompetency, lack of common sense, lack of drive and motivation, and just pure stupidity of how things fall and play out is absurd. I cannot wait to move on in the pipeline with hopes that it gets just a little bit better. Eager to get going!
Im leaving for OSUT In Feb, when did you get your phone? lol I have wife and kids, just curious when you get access
@@jonathanwimmer7464You get your phone on Sundays for about an hour or so, depending on the company you’re in, and as long as you don’t fuck up as a whole class
Thank you for this! I go in as 18x January 6
Thank you for the video
Lol it was sgt major Reis, I went to SFAS about a year after you did and he talked about that documentary specifically and the context of it
Yesss. That's the dude. A true legend.
So when you say a shorter run/ruck and longer run/ruck in Gate Week, people always talk about what your 2 and 5 mile time need to be, but if it’s unknown distances, are the recommended times just generic goals to be mentally ready? For example, I run around a 13:20 2 mile and 38 5 mile, so should I use those paces as mental metrics going into the “short” and “long” runs in gate week?
Yep, you'll definitely hit a 2 mile on day 1, but the other 2 runs are unknown. I usually recommend finding a pace you can hold for ~ 1 hour (rudimentary definition of threshold pace) and getting comfortable with it If that pace is in the ~7:30/mi range, you're sitting pretty. The long run is likely a bit longer than 5 miles, but 5 miles is just easy to standardize and it's a requirement to maintain throughout the Q course.
@ understood. What’s the terrain like on those? My timed outdoor runs are through local neighborhoods that have somewhat undulating degrees of include and decline so I can’t tell if those times I record are safe to assume as accurate or not
@@BigMitch1996 elevation wise, some rolling hills but nothing too extreme. The surface will be a mix of pavement, gravel, hard sand and a bit of soft sand (the worst by far). I would get some running in on softer surfaces if able. Doesn't need to be exactly like mackall, but perhaps just some trails/dirt roads. Not only will it be more specific, but it'll also bang you up less.
@ thanks for the time
Do you think SFPC can turn someone in decent shape to great shape overall?
No. Even if the training was perfectly structured (which isn't the case), it's simply not long enough. If you go in a bit less fit than you'd like to be, you'll definitely make a bit of progress but 5 weeks isn't enough to make significant adaptations. I always tell guys to go into SFPC/SOPC as if it was day 1 of selection.
Sounds doable
Very doable!
Hey bud it’s obvious you’re trying to make ur voice that deep
I must be really good at it then because it sounds like this every time I talk, on or off camera👊
You should add timestamps
Thanks for the tip! I do time stamps on my organic YT vids, but not the podcasts. It's quite the behind the scenes process prepping for, shooting, editing, thumb-nailing, and uploading a single video, especially as a one man show, and especially when youtube is one of a dozen plus hats I wear. But I hope you got something valuable from the video👊
Maybe I missed it, but how long did it take to get through all of your medical training? Can 18Ds prescrib medicine?
