Linguistics sound like a very complicated but interesting topic! my first language is Spanish, it was a surprise you know it too! I have been studying japanese on and off for some years but kanji are so complicated for me haha I can't read at all! but I can more or less understand what you are saying, it made me happy. Wow! What a linguist you are. Personally Japanese feels like it is the easier language to learn. Growing up with some Japanese, I have an ear for spoken and romaji phonetics. Yes it's kind of pain to learn 50k characters but it's doable. What is hard is Chinese. Written Chinese has similar hurdles (20k-50k characters) but reading and speaking Chinese is hard. You have 4 tones for Mandarin and 9 tones for Cantonese. Thus to speak Cantonese like a native born, each word has the option to be pronounced really with 10 tones. So learning to read Chinese is a chore that's magnitudes harder. (You don't see tones written but they are just memorized and someone reading Chinese, they put meaning to the characters). Then in reverse, there are homonyms, often the characters are different but the pronunciation is the same or very similar (usually you have context to know if someone is referring to a pear or asking to leave, in Mandarin yet the pinyin, aka the pronunciation, is the same: lí). I'd rather learn Japanese than Chinese

One of my dream is to go to Japan one day. For the voice I love both but maybe a little bit more the wisper. I studied a lot when I lived in America, and I had the best professors ever who inspired and helped me learn!! Now I live in Japan so I learned about half studying in the US, and the other half I picked up through living here. My boyfriend is a native speaker so that’s definitely helped a lot as well :)
You study linguistics as well? I’m actually applying to grad school for historical linguistics😂 What’s your favourite subfield of linguistics, and what language(s) have you studied aside from English and Japanese?
She does speak English 🙂 No worries. In this video, she's just speaking Japanese as practice, something she's been wanting to try for a while. Her first Japanese ASMR video was popular and she loved doing it, so she had motivation to make another, although she'd have released another sometime, anyway, just because she wants to 🙂 I don't think she'd change to a Japanese channel permanently. I expect she'll be doing both languages. Maybe she'll make a separate channel just for her Japanese ASMR and keep both channels updated. 🤔 But yeah, you're not crazy.
