Ta for braving the weather! Very helpful. Next time 18" of half inch pipe will be your new best mate on that funnel ;-) Got mine to do this week, and the PTU and the rear diff and the Haldex lol! Always stuff to do on a Land Rover if you want it to be reliable 🙂
Mine is a Land Rover discovery sport 2.2 diesel automatic gearbox on a 15 plate, would this be the same process for my car please thank you in advance for any feedback
This also should be done with the wheels off the ground so that the transmission can operate in each gear. Having the car on the ground with your foot on the brake isn’t correct.
Hi, thanks for posting this, I did my Discovery Sport autobox today. I note you used ZF Lifeguard 8 as supplied by Land Rover. I was advised to use Lifeguard 9 as the autobox is a 9 speed. I don’t think theres much difference between them? The other thing i did was to use the 1 litre oil containers once empty to decant the old oil into, so I could check the amount that drained out versus the amount I put in which was 3.5 litres as you described. Drives better now so appreciate you uploading. 👍🏻
Hi Sir, mine DS 2017 petrol ecoobost (automatic transmission). Are all discovery sport same fluid capacity 3.5L? Is this apply to all model? Thanks in advacne.
Really nice video. Many thanks. Not having the OBD computer with the temperature reading.......could you tell how long it took to reach 35 degrees please ?
After the transmission is drained on this one I put 3.5 liters in and level was okay when I checked following the process. If when you check the level is not okay you can use a syringe to top up in 100ml at a time through the level check hole Hope this helps
Great video. Thanks. I have a ‘19 discovery sport. 44,000 miles. The Gear warning light came on while I was driving and the car went into neutral and I rolled to about 3 MPH and it heard a grinding noise and the car stopped . The gear selector wouldn’t move in either so I turned the car off and on the second try things were back to normal and the warning light disappeared. Any thoughts what it could be? I’ve watched a handful of videos and one person mentioned maybe a low battery could cause that. I’m not sure. The battery is almost 5 years old.
Start out with 3.0L then do the temperature process and go from there. I put in 4 quarts of oil and it leaked between the transfer case and transmission
Is the Discovery Sport different to the Evoque? I noticed that it has a second drain plug, one within the other, this is to determine the fill oil level. The larger plug is a 17mm alan key.
Hi and thanks for the great video. Just a little confused has JLR when i called them told me i'd need 6.5 L to do the job and quoted nearly £500 just for the oil. Looking on some of the other car part companies I'm getting costs of around £80 and that's for the good stuff hence my confusion. My vehicle is a 2019 discovery sport dynamic lux HSE SD4. Question therefore is, are we still looking at 3.5 L and does that price from JRL seem right?
Hi @techhead-rz7ye so if you go to JLR they use a machine I believe to flush the transmission so the need for 6-7 litres of oil. I believe if your on top of your maintenance then every 4-5 years change the oil like my process with 3.5-4 litres should be okay 👍🏼 The oil from JLR is expensive for sure but at least you know it’s the correct oil for your vehicle. 😀
Great video! Im now suscribed to the channel.. please give me an advise I have 105,000 km in my discovery sport whats the suggested range to make the gearbox oil change. Thanks.
that is the official procedure to use the level plug. However, many folks drain and measure. Then add the same amount that came out. That only works if you are the original owner, because a previous owner might have done it incorrectly, etc.
Hi , need some advice. Just bought an velar 2017 p250 63k km at 56 the cam belts have been changed bcs rattle so that should be sorted. What are service intervals and when to service the transmission? Any advice would be nice! Kind of scared because of all the negativity about these cars, but also very excited to pick it up hah. Ive seen enough 2017 p250s on the internet with 150k km's so i hope it still has enough life in front of it.
WARNING! The instructions given in this video relating to shifting between the gears are incorrect and could result in gearbox damage. Land Rover specify that this process (which should go as far as fourth gear, not just second) should be done in All Terrain Mode with all four wheels off the ground, thus allowing the entire transmission system to function in order to circulate the fluid properly. There is, apparently, a risk of airlocks if this procedure is not followed to the letter.

Hi mate can you tell me if the gearbox as a filter on it thanks
Thank you for sharing.
just watched your video brill just a quick question how many times do you go through the sequence at the end thanks
Why not pour 3.5 litres from a measuring jug?

Only if you have the ZF 9 speed transmission.
Thought this had be done (drive, reverse park etc) at least 3 times in order to flush the torque converter which can't be drained?
correct. cycle the gears for 5 to 10 seconds each. Also, put it in S mode to use the paddle shifter and cycle individual gears until 4th gear.
This also should be done with the wheels off the ground so that the transmission can operate in each gear. Having the car on the ground with your foot on the brake isn’t correct.
Was the filter not changed as per description?
There is no serviceable filter on this gearbox

the primary difference between ZF Lifeguard 8 and Lifeguard 9 is the flashpoint.

@@giovannilubiana6003 no but you could get a cheap OBD scanner from Amazon you need to make sure that the scanner can read actual values

Do you have a link for the scanner you use ?

Hi Sir, thanks for your video. How many liters is needed for LandRover Discovery Sport L550 ?
drain and fill is about 3.5 liters. but it is important to do the side level plug procedure.
Start out with 3.0L then do the temperature process and go from there.
I put in 4 quarts of oil and it leaked between the transfer case and transmission

what year Evoque?
I guess its same for both automatic and manual ? or Manual gear box different drain plug location and filler location . ?
Manual transmission is slightly different process and filler and drain slightly different location

a good rule is to change the transmission fluid every 30k or 35k miles. So, at 63k km, now would be a good start.
So 3.25 quarts of oil.
usually 3.5 liters or 3.7 quarts.
