Actually, I remember at the time that YG did provide the explanation and it was basically true and correct. The problem wasn't the handling. People forget that Kpop fandoms were just as toxic back then as they are now. In fact the story about the "scandal" originally didn't create any big problem. It was soon forgotten. The problem was that there was a prominent media reporter who took the old story, about a year or so later, and then tried to turn it back into a big "scandal". The reporter was always going after YG and Bom's "scandal" was the weapon. But the reporter only was able to do that because he got tons of support from fans of other groups, who constantly used the reports to go after Bom and 2NE1.
@@TEAM__POSEID0N even though YGE is not innocent in the whole situation.. I also agree that people tend to forget that netizens and antis played also a very big and important role in the disbandment!! It's like they found the perfect weapon to go after the group and the company were like "fck it" and just gave up on them and threw them under the bus..
The thing also that gets rarely acknowledged is that 2NE1 sold 66 million units/records of their music (both single and album releases combined) which puts them on the list of best-selling girl groups of all time, and this was before the era of where streaming became the norm. This puts them in the top 10 with groups like The Spice Girls, TLC, Destiny's Child and also Girls Generation & Twice. They were disbanded at the point in their career where it would've even gone to higher heights and it was honestly very sad to experience. 2NE1 was my first K-Pop group, who a friend showed me, and before that I'd never seen Asian people in media like how 2NE1 was presented. It made believe that I also could be creative and express myself with the arts, and was one of the main reasons I (at the time) took up dancing classes. They will always hold a special place for me.
Thanks for sharing this 🙏 it was so empowering to see Asian artists in mainstream media back in the day -- something which people may take for granted today
2NE1 walked so all of these 3rd and 4th ggs could run. They will always hold a special place in my heart. IATB was one of the first K-Pop songs I can remember because of it playing in commercials in the USA. I remember being like "omg this is so good, what is this song?" and the rest is history. CL has been sabotaged at every step despite having had the best chance at solo success worldwide. YG is a piece of shit.
Also as a young woman with ADHD who takes Adderall, what happened to Bom bothers the hell out of me, but it's also so inspiring to me to see her continue on in the industry. Korea's very behind in their understanding of neurological disabilities and mental illnesses.
Didn't you notice how they try so hard to push jennie to make her the new CL but they keep failing ? They forgot that CL was born to slay and their shitty company was just a chance for her to show her real talents
I literally cried at the part when Park Bom said she doesn't hold ill feelings towards her old agency YG. She's such a nice good natured person. She inspired me to be more forgiving because of that.
thats sweet, but just remember you don't have to forgive anyone who wrongs you. our society is so obsessed with forgiveness but truthfully, its not necessary. you can move on from a situation without forgiving anyone.
Honestly, I never heard of them. I listened to Girls Generation and they introduced me to K-Pop as a whole. Side Note, I think 9 members is way too many. 3 or 4 is perfect.
I hope your video goes viral. that's exactly what I think... I'm happy whenever I see someone talking about 2ne1 because remembering their legacy is what we can do after all the injustice they suffered (without discrediting blackpink and babymonster, who are talented and deserve all respect from yg too)
I'm the same way. I'll listen to music including K-pop for a few days or a week or a month or so. And I won't hear 2ne1 during that time. Then I see something of 2be1 in my TH-cam feed like this concert. Then I'll click on it and start listening. And then in hooked again. Their music is just so close to my heart! I'll be a fan of theirs forever. I never get tired of their music. And obviously I'm not the only person. Just look at their Coachella performance last year! On billboard music the 2ne1 performance was voted the top performsnce at Coachella!
@@usagi009 Yes! 2ne1 is the first Kpop to tour the world, 1st kpop to broke Southeast Asian countries, US and Europe. Trend setter, international fashion icon, 1st "rookie monster", one of the best selling GGs of all time, 1st kpop to be named as "new best band in the world" by MTV, the only gg with 4daesang in one award show, and many more. 2ne1 paved big for Kpop, that's a fact!
They were and will always be legends. When I was 13/14 I looped I don't care and go away so much as a young teen in the UK. I got bullied severly and their music helped me so much, it gave me confidence and felt like I can love me for being me. I was bullied for looks, having ginger hair and being very skinny. I was also bullied for listening to 2NE1/Kpop.. back when it was not heard of in the UK. Now fast forward eleven years, being 25 now, seeing so much KPOP in the charts and all over store bought clothing, it really proved to me that they created a lane for all future artists to follow. I believe without 2NE1, Kpop would not be as big as it is now. I am grateful for them, grateful they stuck by me (without them knowing). Sadly, their disbandment came just after I gave birth to my son. My heart broke a little, I respectfully put all of their albums/songs on and my son was bouncing around the room to their music. My son is now seven and is probably just as obsessed as i was at the grand age of thirteen. These girls, will forever hold a special place in my heart, I'm so happy we all get to watch and listen to them on social platforms. Years down the line I hope all of us get to see them reunite together and maybe even a tour, where I can be my thirteen year old self again with a child of my own, singing along with the girls of 2NE1 that made me who I am. To conclude this very long message, I hope the four of them so much love and happiness. Especially our corn queen Bom. 🧡
What a moving story. Thank you so much for sharing it! I love that you're passing on 2NE1's message and your love of their music to a little Blackjack!
Great video. I would’ve added something about how CL had been preparing a US solo album debut for like five years yet she only ever released 1 or 2 songs. She had written hundreds of songs and even filmed a music video for one. We can only assume the reasons for her solo never coming out was because of conflicts between her Korean and US managements. Once CL left a comment on Yang Hyun Suk’s post on Instagram, asking him why he hasn’t replied to her texts for days but is posting pictures with others. I will never forgive YG for the way 2NE1 members were treated
If you google it, it's actually been revealed that YGE was basically blocking her.. Fans were flooding Scooter Brown's social media and he was like "alright I'm getting all the heatt but it's not us not releasing the music.. we want to support and promote her but basically her korean agency is blocking us"... well, ok these are my words but if you google it you can find exactly what he said haha xD and maybe he was also just trying to cover his ass.. but still you can tell how messy everything was..
Yeah her asking him to respond to her hurt my heart, 2NE1 helped give his label a name & he just threw them away like trash & treated them like trash. Not even atleast caring about how us, their fans, would feel!
2NE1 will always be remembered as the group that set the standard for all you see today .Minji, Bom, Dara and CL are Queens for a reason. They didn't deserve YG's treatment. (Note for the creator: YG's disclosure of Bom's personal tragedy of witnessing her classmate and friend's death on a soccer field is unfortunately, true.) I have always suspected that the 2014 leak of the investigation into Bom's prescription fiasco 4 years earlier (2010), came from someone at YG. It put an immediate halt to 2NE1's promotions and associated costs and paved the way to usher in Blackpink. Some have connected the leak with the ongoing (at that time) MV Sewol accident as a distraction from the heat being put on the Government response. Maybe they took out two birds with one stone....will we ever know?
I don't know. It's a possibility. But it seems unlikely. YG has at times had up to 5 or 6 boy groups on the active roster at the same time. There was no need whatsoever for YG to create a nightmare bad publicity situation for both YG and 2NE1 just to "pave the way to usher in Blackpink". People forget that the so-called "scandal" was very bad for YG's image too. it's one of the things haters have used when calling YG the "drug company". Plus the media reporter who turned an old story into a big scandal (with abundant help from cheering fans of rival groups) was notorious for doing hit pieces against YG. Also, people forget that YG also neglected Blackpink for most of the time during their first 2 years after they debuted. It's not like YG planned for them to be the flagship superstars of the company. As always, YG was focused on his new boy groups. That's where most of the time, attention and investment was going. I think YG was more surprised than anyone when Blackpink became global superstars, instead of one of the boy groups.
@@TEAM__POSEID0N ... I see your points and agree with most. I haven't read anything about the reporter"s history of hit jobs on YG (but then I'm at the mercy of translating Korean language news years after the event). It's been said by some that YG couldn't handle more than one girl group at a time and I don't think YG himself, was the source. I think someone else connected to upper management leaked the story. YG said himself that BP was the pretty 2NE1 and was planned from the start to replace them. I don't know and maybe we'll never know the full truth.
I always say this - 2ne1 ran so Blackpink could fly. I hope new kpop fans get to know 2ne1 and many other girl groups that have preceded BP. They’re okay, but these ladies are the BoMb
I am an American and I grew up listening to 2ne1 Hate you and Ugly were the first videos I saw of the girls ! 👯♀️👯♀️ there are no Kpop groups like them today ! That’s why there Coachella performance after so many years went viral ! 🤩🤩
2ne1 are much more versatile and talented. They are one of those few artists who's live performances are better than studio versions. On stage they are WILD. I like BP but 21 are the GOAT they're on their own level ✨
When 21 disbanded and BLACKPINK was introduced, I was such a blackjack loyalist. I rejected to be a blink nor listen to any BLACKPINK songs but then it became worldwide so I hear it in the radios station. Not gonna lie BLACKPINK songs are actually a hit, but nothing compares to the impact 2ne1 songs delivered it was so relatable and so real and bro those are the best kind of music I would listen to over and over again. in terms of impact, I would put it beside the top category for K-pop alongside Nirvana and Aerosmith if it was rock
I think YG knows that the existence of 2ne1 would probably hamper the upcoming Blackpink's popularity. Afterall, 2ne1's talent is undeniable. So he had to do something
No. I don't think so. YG didn't really focus that much on Blackpink even after they debuted. YG has had up to 6 boy groups going at the same time. It would have been no problem to have 2 girl groups. Blackpink was neglected a lot for almost 2 years AFTER they debuted. As usual, YG was focused way, way more on making the boy groups successful. YG was probably surprised when Blackpink became so popular with not even a full album, compared to the boy groups on whom YG easily invested 10 times more money, time and attention. 2NE1 was mostly inactive for 2 years BEFORE Blackpink even debuted.
Yes that’s why he kept Dara and CL under YG for a while promising CL an album, but what he was actually doing is preventing the girls to sign with the same company to continu 2NE1. BP got popular instantly just because of BlackJacks, they would have never supported BP if 2NE1 was still around.
@@TEAM__POSEID0N YG is EXTREMELY focus on BP, they completely gave up on everyone else including Big Bang to take care of BP. Except for BP we almost never hear about other YG artists anymore.
2NE1 is the ultimate mother of kpop girl groups for me. No, I am not a kpop stan, I am just exploring kpop NOW. So I have a fresh pair of eyes. (For now, there is only one group whose songs I love. Especially their solo albums. I am part of that “general population”. From my GP eyes 2NE1 will always be that group that set the tone)
I grew up listening to 2ne1 through playing their songs on CDs or just hearing it on the radio. I will forever be thankful for Sandara Park, she opened the gate to all filipinos who got introduced to KPop music. Because of her and 2ne1, It got me more interested to explore the music genre and now in 2023 I am addicted to SEVENTEEN'S music lol
N2e1 had real character. They were hypnotic,, agressive, sassy, hot and energy. The only K pop band I have ever liked. i will keep tp their songs forever. They set the bar , for all the dolly bands to reach for. 2Ne1 forever rule !
Thank you for this video, as someone who’s followed 2NE1 since debut, we Blackjacks also went through so much seeing the girls being treated like this and seeing them get disbanded was a time to cry BUT, the girls were finally freed. I’m glad they are living their own life now. Again, thanks for sharing this, there are people out there who unfortunately don’t educate themselves and think 2NE1 had an amazing time just because of their huge success.
2ne1 did not blend in the crowd. They stood out so much for me that I started looking into other artists from YG as well. I hate how the disbanding thing went down. I wish Bom was protected by the company, but I'm not even surprised by YG's reaction. It's the same with how CL was abandoned. I was excited when Blackpink was introduced, but somehow with Babymonster, it doesn't feel the same.
One reason I became a fan of 2NE1 is because listening to their music has given me confidence and a voice in my reality. It was so relatable. I was bullied when I was in high school, but when I heard their music, they made me realize a lot. From accepting myself to being strong in this cruel world, I just wish them the best because they deserve it. As for Blackpink, I was once a fan, but then I realized why I stopped. The mean girl vibe represents them. No hate, but I feel like they have given more voice to those who think highly of themselves, specifically the bullies. Maybe it's personal because the person who bullied me in the past is now a fan of them and still thinks highly of themselves. I just hope K-pop will stop this standardization of beauty.
Thank you for sharing your story, KAE 21. I'm sorry you went through that, but know that you're not alone. Stories like these are exactly the reason why I think 2NE1's music was important, and why YG did well to give them a platform. I don't even have a problem with BP representing the "Mean Girl" POV so much as they're glorifying it. Mean girls become mean girls because society tells them theyre better than other people because they're pretty. It kind of sucks that YG is reinforcing that flimsy hierarchy just because it sells well to insecure teens and adults. You should think highly of yourself too, KAE 21. Your bully is more insecure than you think. People who are truly confident don't need to make fun of others. You deserve to be in this world, and I bet you're a very beautiful person!
Sorry for what you experienced, but BP's songs are mostly their voice for their haters...the amount of hates their getting as a part of their huge popularity is huge, too. It actually nice that they're fighting those unreasonable haters, with their lyrics.... Their lyrics are very simple to understand. They're just like Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. But it's justifiable that you feel that way, since a you're a die hard fan of 2ne1.. people will always have reasons to say bad thing or hate others, just to make themselves feel good about it. So, yeah, that's normal.
@Bhambie Hi. Thank you. Apologies if I offended you if you are a BP fan, but what I said was only based on my personal opinion and experience; I have no hatred for BP but that's what i felt on most of their music. I hope you understand.
@@bhambie9710 one can always justify oneself with excuses .....that's how it is.........same for one thinking it's mean girl vibe and other as for haters......but if you think analytically you will find the truth.......it's crystal clear.....this video's itself a answer........
@@riyahill9042 and their debut songs were originally 2ne1 songs. If 2ne1 didn’t disband that time, BP is not as popular as now, knowing that 2ne1 was very popular and has huge fandom backthen. They will surely promote 2ne1 more than BP .
I discovered KPOP in February 2023. First I found Blackpink and enjoyed them. Then I found 2NE! and I am addicted to them. 2NE1 connected to me in many ways which other KPOP groups do not. The women of 2NE1 are beautiful, talented and skilled. More importantly they are interesting. Otherwise I find most KPOP girl groups to be more of the same. Like clones dancing together. There are a few like Blackpink and Aespa whose songs can be enjoyed as music and without needing the visuals. 2NE1 may be gone but I will remember them.
@@poonderings I was introduced to Korean singing in 1979 while assigned to the Second Infantry Division. I liked the Bunny Girls. Now retired I continue to enjoy music around the world. 2NE1 fits with other singers I enjoy such as Chaliapin, Dame Joan Sutherland, Rammstein, Katzenjammer and others. I am a fan for life.
U forgot to mention 1 thing : Teddy. Teddy and 2NE1 combined creates a swagger music that will become the blueprint for girl crush genre.so when 2NE1 is no longer active, Teddy still creates the same music for BP hence the same.music style. Personality wise I think BP and 2NE1 has 2 diff personalities. 2NE1 is more edgy and direct in its approach ,hungry for success, while BP is more sassy and laid back. 2NE1 has more raw talent with less x factor and BP has more refined skill with X factor.in the end for YG its all business.
I agree.. And the last sentence is so true and heartbreaking.. To YG It's just about marketing and treating their artists as influencers and brands, not creativity and artistic creation..and just letting idols be artists and do their thing.
2NE1 got me into kpop because they were the first to break through the over engineered glossy image of most groups. BP is usually the opposite of that. If there is an heir to 2NE1 (and that’s a big “if”), it is the band where BP’s fifth pre debut member - Miyeon - went.
mamamoo is the closest Girl group that is close to 2ne1 when performing in stage, not even blackpink. I love blackpink and I just went to their bornpink concert but they don’t really have that strong stage presence, they are just doing what they do on the practice videos and other performances they only changed outfits. Lisa was the inly member who’s giving her 100% energy, the other members seems tired or just being lazy
@@jhey2325 +1 I think the spiritual and musical successor to 2NE1 is not Blackpink, it's groups like Mamamoo, G Idle, and Dreamcatcher. Doing totally unique and creative things within the kpop girl group space. That's what global fans want, not the same cloned groups....
What a great and dead on insightful video! I'm a professional musician that has played in the U.S. as well as Korea. And from what I know and have experienced from the industry, I believe this to be an accurate dipiction of YG's as well as other labels actions and thoughts behind those actions. Their, "don't fix if it ain't broken" approach to their money making machine is slowing down. They are afraid to try new things, as their success model has always paid off for them in the past. But once audiences begin to catch on, and realize, this Buisness is NOT about music at all, it's money, strictly money, they will begin to see the unfairness and ruthlessness of this industry and demand a more different product than the last. George F. Greenville, SC U.S.A.
2ne1 really carved they're name in a tombstone, a group who doesn't need to ALWAYS be visually pleasing. Let's just admit that 2ne1 aren't that beautiful compared to others, but the song they produced really reach every listeners vibe.. I really like this group, i still listen to some of their few songs😊
I will never forgive what that crap potato did to 2ne1. And yeah, I knew it I'm not the only one who finds Blackpink's music vibes were either "I'm Richer, higher, Prettier, Famous than you" or "Fck boys, fck my exes - relationship is just my past time" kind of thing. For the past 7 years those were the oncepts that they keep on releasing. I hope they would give a new, fresher, woman empowerment vibe cuz that sht is getting old.
Honestly, 2NE1 became my ultimate bias after Lollipop. I just knew. Lol after countless hits/history making, I’ve viewed them as one of the top GG, ever.
When an ugly man calls younger women ugly, it's an ego problem and a projection of his own ugliness. How anyone could continue to give him money by supporting whatever pet project he was working on is beyond me. He's 100% the reason his first big group, Big Bang, also went downhill.
YG is so sexist calling them the “ugly” girl group. They are gorgeous. Some of Big Bang’s members aren’t particularly good-looking (except maybe TOP) but he didn’t call them the “ugly” boy group.
Great video, so well made and interesting to learn about! I was a casual fan of 2NE1 but never really understood their disbandment or why the hell YG would make a move like this when they were so popular and successful, even with the departure of Minzy. I saw their mama and was genuinely excited to see what they were going to become next, but then YG disbanded them out of the blue, and without the members even knowing/wanting to disband. It makes me so scared to see how they're gonna treat Blackpink now that their contract renewal is coming up. With born pink album and tour, Jisoo's solo debut, and another Coachella performance, this time as headliners, it almost feels like they're setting the band up for a big finale before debuting Baby Monster and disbanding Blackpink when their contracts end in August, same time the encore concerts are scheduled for, and sending them off as soloists or actresses or whatever. They destroyed a group with huge potential because of differing opinions and intense backlash and hate from the public before, and Blackpink certainly fits the bill... I hope that's not the case and that YG is smarter than that since Blackpink are arguably the biggest girl group in the world right now and one of the biggest K-pop groups ever, but 2NE1 was also thriving when they decided to abandon them in pursuit of newer and younger talent so who knows what YG will do. They're probably gonna market Baby Monster as the newer, better, prettier Blackpink just like they did in 2016 because this company has absolutely no respect for women whatsoever and view them solely as objects to sell. All they need is to debut and then boom: Baby Monster blows up, Blackpink is disbanded and members either leave the company or stay to pursue solo ventures, and we lose another huge group with so much unattained potential. The worst part is that Blackpink have so many solo stans that would support the disbandment only for the reason of getting their bias out of the group and becoming bigger than the other members. I also see YG treating Baby Monster in the same way as Blackpink, giving them a badass, untouchable concept, such little music, long hiatuses, individual brand deals and promotions; basically making them a Blackpink 2.0 but this time with that 4th gen obsession of changing the beat of the song halfway through like Aespa and NMIXX because YG can't resist getting a piece of that pie. It would be interesting to see a part 2 when Baby Monster debuts to analyze how both 2NE1 and Blackpink and their respective treatment by the company influences (that of) Baby Monster and what they will become. I would also like to see how the treatment of 2NE1 around their disbandment either does or does not repeat with Blackpink, especially with the renewal date coming up and some/all members might not renewing. I've seen the argument that the members should leave the company and sign under a new one together, but with how heavily YG micromanages them and how successful they are, I could easily see them holding all the rights to the Blackpink name, songs, and brand; the girls would either be forced to start over or stay in YG if they wish to stay as a group at all. It almost feels like YG is trying to force Blackpink to go solo so they can wash, rinse, repeat with Baby Monster and continue the YG cycle of never-ending disrespect and mismanagement. Sorry for the long rant but you really made me think with this one, thank you for the awesome video!
Don't apologize I love hearing your thoughts! Tbh, i was in the same boat as you when I started making this video. Contrary to some of the accusations by BLINKs in the comments, I'm not a diehard Blackjack, but after finding out about what happened to them, I really though more people should know. I absolutely agree with your conclusions on the future of BP/BM (god i hope they don't go for beat change-ups but what can you do lol). Fortunately (??) BP resigned with YG yesterday, but who knows what that means for the group. If YG keeps going as they have been, theyll probably be dropped into the basement with a few solos every now and then, coasting on brand ambassadorships. Fingers crossed that's not the case and YG gets their act together and hire more creatives to manage both BP and BM (and give them non-overlapping concepts). We'll see!
@@poonderings for sure! I also saw the news and I’m happy the girls will still be together but also worried to see how YG continues with them. It will be interesting to see if YG finally lets 2 girls groups coexist once baby monster debuts and also what their concept will be if they don’t disband blackpink, bc I hope YG wouldn’t have the same concept for his only 2 girls groups. but they’ve made lots of poor decisions before so I’m not holding my breath…
@@poonderings hi I like your content but can you olease tell me where did you see that the BP members have resigned because it has not beeen confirmed anywhere. The contract renewal is supposed to happened in august not before😅

Very well put together piece, very informative and focusing on known facts. YG did 2NE1 dirty and mistreated them. He will do to Blackpink what he did with 2NE1 and he will continue to do the same with every girl group under YGE in the future. He is a control freak who never admits his mistakes or changes his ways. Remember, this is the same guy who sabotaged his first girl group SWI.T and disbanded them because he fell in love with one of the members and she later became his wife and mother of his two children. Mind you at the time (2002) she was 20 and he was 31 when they first started secretly dating each other. If Blackpink renew their contracts with YGE they will undoubtedly get thrown in the dungeon, just like 2NE1's Dara and CL were when they renewed their contracts. If BP move to Teddy's The Black Label then they may get more freedom to release their own songs but comebacks will still be few and far between, just look at Somi as an example. Could Blackpink sign with a new label? It's possible but YGE holds the rights to Blackpink's name, music and their entire brand so it's highly unlikely it would happen. Would another unaffiliated company want 'used goods' and more importantly can they afford to pay to sign all four Blackpink members? No, not likely. So that really only leaves two options, renew or disband. I think Jennie no longer wants to be an idol and prefers being a brand ambassador/influencer. Lisa, for reasons that baffle me, is highly sought after as a solo hip hop artist and dancer. Many idol group dancers are better than her imo and she certainly isn't a real hip hop artist or rapper. Jisoo will probably become a full time actress while Rose will likely become a solo artist, making indie style music.
Ok I agree with you on every point, except the age thing with YG, that I don't consider rough considering my mom was 19 and my dad was 30, yet we had a perfectly normal family and my mom and dad got along perfectly fine. Yeah I see why it's uncomfortable, but IMO its one of the least egregious of his f----- actions.
@@Boomstickfan495 its not just about the age gap. he had his eyes on her when she was still in middle school. he was hoping for her group to fail and was happy when it did because he didnt want her to become too famous. they didnt just meet randomly when she was 20, he groomed her when she was still young and impressionable. so yeah, absolutely gross and worth mentioning.
I see them becoming influencers. I also want to see at least one become an actual model. I feel like there is an icon in the making there, specifically with Lisa.
Again, seeing this kind of talking trash against Blackpink is why I usually avoid videos and articles that reach too much and strain too hard to link 2NE1's situation with Blackpink's situation. I'm an original Blackjack, so I was quite unhappy about what happened to them. But blaming and downgrading the Blackpink members (who literally had nothing to do with what happened to 2NE1) is low-class and immature. This video gets a lot of things right, but also seems to be missing huge chunks of the story. Even back in 2011/12, I could sense that Yang Hyun Suk was upset with how much time and money got wasted on the project with will i am, which by all indications back then seemed to be more of a project pushed by and for CL than a group project, even though it was initially promoted as a 2NE1 project. Although we'll probably never know any of the inside details, there were lots of glimpses here and there that provided those indications. And recall that at the 2011 MAMA, will i am did a special stage with only CL, not the group. There was a promotional video out around that time, that was kind of a documentary of the ongoing project with will i am, and you could see that a scene where YHS was clearly looking unhappy and in other scenes, the other three members of the group kept appearing looking like they were just passive decorations or movie extras who really had no big part in what was going on. It's things like that that make me think (and of course I don't know for sure) that CL may indeed have been the one who YG was upset with and "couldn't control". How much of that was reasonable on YG's part is hard to say. Certainly, the boss and biggest shareholder of the company that created the group and is responsible for hiring producers, video makers, distributing music, etc., etc., would not be wrong for expecting to have the final say-so with regard to big projects, without having to fight with an artist who is essentially an employee. I'm not picking sides. But most attempts at analyzing 2NE1's trajectory pretty much uncritically accept everything that CL says and assume the worst about YHS. (And believe me, I'm no huge fan of YHS). Other factors include the usual fact that YG tended to always invest 10 times more in boy groups than girl groups and the years 2013/14 were no exception, as YHS devoted more than a solid year to producing pre-debut reality shows to promote the trainees that later became Winner and Ikon. Nothing like that has ever been done for girls at YG. The closest thing is the recent pre-debut series of videos for Baby Monster...but what they're doing for BM is still only a fraction of what was invested in Winner, Ikon and Treasure before debuting. Blackpink was even seriously neglected for 2 years AFTER they debuted, during a period of time when YHS also seemed to be going through some kind of mid-life crisis, which involved him wanting to be on TV and in the spotlight more himself, including being the star of YG-produced reality TV shows, such as Mix9, where he starred as the savior of struggling trainees OF OTHER COMPANIES (at the same time that YG artists were begging for comebacks). And, yes, Bom's situation was another huge factor. But the video covered it quite well, so I won't say much. But it was a HUGE factor. I don't think YG can be blamed for the situation as much as this video attempts to do. I remember YG tried a number of times to try to get Bom past it, including having Bom do a sub-unit with Lee Hi for Christmas, but the general negativity of a large number of haters and the media campaign against Bom were still in full swing and 90% of the comments under the video were just solid hate comments against Bom. (Now if you look at the video comments, it's full of very positive messages and compliments for Bom. But that's now. Not then.) That was at the end of 2014 and may have actually been one of the things that caused YG to just put 2NE1 on hold and eventually decide to pull the plug. Bottom line as far as the relevance of Blackpink to 2NE1: There is practically no connection. For all practical purposes, YG was already through with 2NE1 before the end of 2014, almost 2 years before Blackpink even debuted. YG also treated Blackpink no better than he treated 2NE1 in their initial years. YG was probably more surprised than anyone to see how big Blackpink blew up globally. And that's due to talents and abilities that the members have, in terms of combining rapping, singing, dancing and performance skills with excellent communication skills, first-rate reality-show skills, immensely likable personalities and so on. There is no need to downgrade or trivialize any of the Blackpink members' abilities and strengths just to vent frustration about what happened to 2NE1. Blackpink definitely deserve the success they are having now and each member deserves full credit. Drop any of the members (very much including Lisa whose raps and stage presence have often been the highlights that made fans out of huge numbers of people around the world) and the group wouldn't be half as successful. It's the chemistry, teamwork and unique combination of all 4 members together that make them stand out even among the top-tier GGs of recent years.
Most common ADHD meds are banned in most of Asia for some reason it's actually ridiculous because I also have severe ADHD and it's almost impossible to treat you gotta make do with antidepressants and CBT to function.
Sadly, baby monsters will have the same yg's gg formula. Just by the name, it's crystal clear. The problem they will now face is how will they keep blackpink while handling baby monsters. That label's obsession with having control will be their downfall.
Look, if it wasn’t for 2NE1 in 2010, I probably would have not started listening to Kpop as soon as I had. They were my favorite group. I bought all their CDs. Then became team YG. When they disbanded, I was crushed. I love Blackpink, but you can tell a lot of the sounds that was 2NE1, was given to Blackpink.
23:20 the start of mass exodus of yg artist/actor is when sandara park which yg stans called her "the glue of yg entertainment", the most loyal yg artist/actor and supportive senior leaves yg in may 14, 2021 after 17 years since she was discovered/scouted via the kbs screening humanity/human theater documentary: my name is sandara park in 2004 despite yg wanted to renew her contract until her 2nd decade in the entertainment industry started in the philippines
Love this.... facts and opinion (also BJs sentiment) about 2ne1 fate in the hands of YHS. I hope this one goes viral.... -I must admit I didn't check this out at first when I saw the thumbnail...I thought it's another unnecessary comparison between the 2 group😅 but when I saw fellow BJs recommended this I give it a chance...I am glad and thankful for this wonderful vid about our girlies. Thank you for making this♥
I said this somewhere else but I think its relevant here: tbh I know that a lot of people think that they're gonna leave YG but I don't see why, no other company will give them the same opportunities that they have currently, as well as the pay check, even if they went to another big3 company, YG doesn't have as many artists compared to them so they won't be able to provide the same monetary value. I think that they are so famous to the point that they can just promote like western artists where they have a comeback once every two years, and maybe a solo project in between, then they go on tour afterwards. It's the best case scenario, for them. Your point about how as you get older artists may want to deviate and change, and especially for blackpink, their sound is super consistent, with almost no change however, I wonder with the amount of success they have, the members themselves may be worried that if they deviate they lose fans and love from the general public. They are so successful that, if they want to experiment would that come to bite them later on?
Knowing that YG admitted that he didn’t make BlackPink to be different really explains so much to me. Because honestly, I feel like they come out with the exact same concept every time they come back. Some of the lyrics are reused across different songs. I never thought they were that different or unique because YG does seem to market them as a more polished and glammed up 2ne1. “Girl Crush” but with more glitter, on repeat.
A very good analysis. It also clearly defines the reasons why I prefer 2NE1. BP was a great group for a couple of years and they became great stars afterwards but they paid dearly for their stardom; I hope they will survive their disbandment better than 2NE1 (they probably will). And commiserations to BM, or whatever the new group will finally be called. BTW, I am pretty sure that "one person" was yet another deceit invented by YG in order to lead the public off the trace. Quite successful, obviously.
BP is more of the controlled version of 2NE1. They are stiff, lesser swag, lesser stage presence. Their music are catchy but don't have the depth. I agree with the mean girls Gretch's reference. That's how they sound. YG wanted them to look fierce but that's it.
there has always been this attitude from yang hyun suk yg and a large portion of korean public where they think that because the members of 2ne1 dont fit koreas beauty standards that they should just be grateful that yg was willing to give them a chance at stardom. they feel that no other label would have taken a chance at an unattractive girl group like 2ne1 and that they should be grateful to the company for making them into international stars. they feel that it is YG and teddy who made them so if they wanted to move on to bigger and better things which turned out to be black pink they are perfectly in their right to do so.
This needs to go viral. Blackjack’s have been saying this for years but were called haters 🙄 And the thing that made 2ne1 authentic is that they WROTE their own songs and were heavily involved in the production from beginning to end. They were really hands on therefore the songs were actually them! With BP they are just a product nothing abt them is authentic. YG said it best they are a pretty version was 2ne1. However YG didn’t make 2ne1s image 2ne1 did just like BIGBANG made BIGBANG. If YG could just let 2ne1 be 2ne1 we wouldn’t be here today. YG remember you can’t replicate authenticity. Edit: I thought it was automatic assumption to knw Teddy was producing and writing bc we knw how the recording works over at yg. But apparently some ppl did not assume and got trigger. I take full responsibility for not mentioning Teddy. Bc to assume is to make an ass out of me and you. My apologies to trigger blackjacks. I am truly sorry 😞 I should have known better this is social media. Be clear when writing a commentary.
2NE1 did not write their own music. Teddy, did all their music. As he does for Blackpink. The way Teddy does thing is that he get the members to put their thoughts in the music. So, yes you can say the girls have a say in it but, Teddy is always the producer for all their music.
As a Blackjack, I can tell you they did not write their own songs except with their last album where CL wrote lots. However, they still contributed a lot to their concept and manged their individual images. Teddy also took in their inputs and wrote based on their stories. I think that's part of the reason their songs don't always sound the same despite having the same producer. Rn tho, I don't see much variation in Teddy's sound to a point where I can't even differentiate Somi's and BlackPink's songs.
@@kk_sj3635 100% this -- Teddy still puts out bangers, but it's like he's too afraid to try different things now. It could be argued that it's he's just developed his "style", but idk don't people get bored of the same thing in pop? When I was editing this video, it was pretty hard for me to differentiate the BP vids because the visuals and concepts were just so...random? When Teddy wrote for 2NE1, it felt like there was more of a vision. BP's music feels more like YG going through the motions to maintain popularity.
Come on. Teddy wrote 2ne1's music. And u saying blackpink is nothing? Obviously u are a HATER of blackpink. Blackpink is the biggest gg now. Dont be bitter.
Hi.🖐️ Its me again Janna, I'm glad you're making new content and my sister and I love 2ne1 and it's kinda sad how they were treated like that though 😩 and still there great , even though treated that and I loved You're video. It's good, keep it up. Fighting 💯 ( 🎶I don't care🎶 is our jam still 😆)
@@poonderings Especially concerning when it regards the man who saw his future wife on TV when she was in middle school, casted her as a trainee when she was 16, admitted that he had a crush on her while she was still a minor, neglected her group so she wouldn't get too popular, started dating her (officially) the moment she became legal and admitted to all of this on TV.
Your video is so beautiful.. and I can see you know kpop( including the deep dark part of it) I love kpop too but we can't ignore the fact that it has some very dark parts.. the idols who are not with us anymore are a big example of how dark the kpop industry can be. Also the way the industry tries to erase 2NE1 because it's a reminder of how vain the industry can be.. putting looks over talent. It's jst not good for the whole industry now...but the worst part is they will still try to get same results they had with 2NE1 when it comes to group stage.. they might end up over working pretty girls with terrible body standard that isn't made for long hours of work..
Makes me sad that “Future 2NE1” never debuted, I can’t imagine how excited they must’ve been being posted on the official TH-cam channel, etc only to be thrown aside and have BlackPink debut instead. I love BlackPink but I hate the thought that “two or more girl groups can’t coexist under the same label at the same time” it would’ve been amazing to see BlackPink and “Future 2NE1” debut at the same time with completely different concepts from each other, a yin/yang sort of deal
2NE1 is always be a great Kpop group not just in 2nd generation, but also until today when it comes in their music. The girl group brought them higher because of their singles that earned so much for their agency. Yan Hyun Suk and YG Entertainment should be ashamed on what they did to them.
They would have been a BOMB internationally, had they continued as a group, They have great vocals, but the company (YG) only took advantage of them and did not give them the opportunity. KPOP should embrace people who really have great talent , BEAUTY alone with just a so so vocals, is not a TALENT, those who are not that beautiful but with full of talent are not given the opportunity in KPOP. Unlike in other countries, people with talent are really given high appreciation despite lacking of a beautiful face. And now, just coz the company is going down, thats why they are trying to get the QUEENS back up again. What a SHAME (YG).
During 2018 I remember that Dara had commented on her networks that she would soon have her solo album, it is 2023 and the album is about to be released but with Dara in another company, everything indicates that YG never allowed her to release it. He mentioned this because it seems Dara was a shareholder of the company and her departure (probably influenced by her refusal to accept her album) caused YGE's shares to fall even more.
What irks me most about Blackpink is that they are known to empower young girls and women with their music, when a good amount of their songs put women down. The image, the music and the members themselves are not empowering in the slightest and seeing them so highly recognized for something they not only don't display, but literally market off the opposit, rubs me wrong.
2NE1 was bullied by they're own management company CEO. They are BEAUTIFUL Plus at the height of they're career disbandment. CL / Lee Chae-rin -leader, rapper, vocals Bom / Park Bom -lead vocals Dara / Park Sandara - vocals Minzy / Gong Minji - rapper, vocals
Commenting to boost this video, way more people should see it! In a way, it feels k-pop has moved backwards quite a bit. Instead of grown women expressing themselves, we get a lot of super young girl groups whose members are all supposed to be these perfect human beings. It feels very male gaze-y, like most of the women in k-pop are men's fantasies.
For me, I like 2ne1's songs that have a variety of genres: fun, dance, or sad. But personally, I think Black Pink has its own way that is different from 2ne1, and both are good without being compared.
All 30 minutes of your video were beyond fantastic. ❤ it's crazy how many parallels there are with SM's scapegoating of Jessica since 2014 - who was the blueprint for SNSD's aura, vocals and visuals all because after 14 years of working since the age of 11, she wanted to try a side hustle. The bullying she continues to receive is reminiscent of the disgusting tweets towards Bom you shared.
How was she the blueprint for vocals and visuals when best Vocalist of Group was Taeyeon .. who have had successful song in early Snsd days that she was against Snsd in music show or visuals which Koreans mostly yoona for and visuals land many CF deals plus dramas ... Lol only thing she can be considered blueprint for may be fashion
The amount of potential minzy had alone…..YG wasted it and then snatched her confidence when she left. Honestly it seems like all the members lost that confidence after dealing with YG….and to be honest if I was a member of 2ne1 I would feel some justified resentment for how blackpink was formed
But, in reality, Blackpink did not replace 2NE1 and their formation had nothing to do with 2NE1's problems. 2NE1 stopped being active as a group in 2014. Blackpink didn't debut until 2016...and even after they debuted, they were neglected and ignored and got only a few songs during their first two years, even though their debut songs were very successful. YG's focus and top priority at the time was on the BOY GROUPS (and reality shows, like Mix9, starring Yang Hyun Suk). Blackpink was just as much a low priority as 2NE1. (Compare how the two boy groups got a year's worth of PRE-DEBUT promotions in reality shows made just for them, such as W.I.N. and Mix & Match...while BP got virtually no pre-debut promotions and nobody even knew who Lisa and Rosie were until they debuted.) Minzy probably left because YG refused to give her a solo project, while the other three members got them. Other problems possibly included a lot of wasted time and money on a project with Will.I.Am in the U.S., which appeared to be pushed by CL, for CL, back in 2011. It was supposed to be for the group. But nothing came out of it and YG seemed to be quite unhappy about it. (CL even appeared on a solo stage at the 2011 MAMA with Will.I.Am, while the other members just sat in the audience.) Additionally, the media and rival fandoms (especially including SNSD fans) kept hammering Park Bom about the so-called "drug scandal" in connection with every public appearance. YG provided an excellent public explanation that worked for a while, but the haters band-wagoned, so that Bom could hardly ever do anything without haters spamming up every comment section. None of these things had anything to do with Blackpink really. Blackpink didn't become a top priority until they started getting billions of views on YT and YG's higher priority projects, including the high-priority Boy Groups, were only getting so-so results at best. YG finally had to shift focus and priority toward BP because they were the only ones who could earn serious profits for the company.
Just subscribed. Please drop a vid about other acts like Tiara and 4minute. 2021 wasn't the 1st time they said YG didn't let them know. They said it much earlier. YG was hella weird with them. They wasted 2 years . I still feel pain from constantly checking when 2ne1 will comeback for 2 years! YG disregarded everyone. Controversial but I believe they basically ended it in 2014 and they should have put everyone out of their misery right there and then. Before Bom's scandal, there was CL's MTBD controversy etc. I think YG disliked how well 2ne1 worked and they really wanted to remove them quickly so that they could form the better version. As person who loved 2ne1 I am all for 2ne1 2.0 but the result in terms of ambition with BP's direction as artists is so disappointing. I am always thinking, imagine if they did this or that. Just a small risk here. I wish he never mentioned that they were supposed to 2ne1 2.0 as I would have never wasted so much time hoping for something different. As YG never meant for them to be that way. BP is not bad they are just different. Also, I thought BP was under Blacklabel the whole time. So, I was surprised. I also think YG is dying and their reputation is dead so the BL is the new YG.
Bom's "scandal" was so poorly handled because it was such a simple story that could've cleared all the misunderstandings
True. And thats the reason why they disbanded i guess.
She was criticised for literally taking her ADHD treatment. How stupid are those k-netizens ?
I remember that time, this scandal goes too far
2NE1 will always be the queens of K-pop for me.

In reality its SNSD 😂
@bjird they said "for me"
FACTS
no doubt
This is my first time hearing about 2NE1's background. I had no idea these girls were considered ugly. Damn, that's terrible, and so untrue!
Yes it was an incredible injustice considering their talent
Yeah, considering YG is the true ugly one inside out
Actually they aren't ugly dara has the best visual during there time
2ne1 was the TOP, the IT girls, they were everything. I'm sorry for the kpop fans that didn't grow up during 2nd gen. 2ne1 were the BOMB 💣
Yo like how were they ugly in anyway it's heartbreaking to hear about it I also had no idea they were considered ugly
You don't bite the hand that feeds you. Even if the hand had slap you in the face at the end.
@@HasanAbistYou must be kidding me, 2ne1 included park bom fed the company don't give me that
No one should ever compare 2ne1 to other kpop.. coz they are very very unique !!!! They are the reason why KPOP WAS KNOWN GLOBALLY!!!
I agree they're the one who made the kpop known..they're not ugly they very are uniquen and talented..
Indeed! 💯✔️
Honestly, I never heard of them. I listened to Girls Generation and they introduced me to K-Pop as a whole.
Side Note, I think 9 members is way too many. 3 or 4 is perfect.
I hope your video goes viral. that's exactly what I think... I'm happy whenever I see someone talking about 2ne1 because remembering their legacy is what we can do after all the injustice they suffered (without discrediting blackpink and babymonster, who are talented and deserve all respect from yg too)
🙏 absolutely agree. thank you for your comment!

Randomly saw your comment here. And yeah, we are now witnessing their comeback that they so much deserve. ❤
I will never forgive YG for the way 2NE1 members were treated
good point!
back in the day people blamed scooter braun but YG was the one blocking her and their activities. They sabotaged her.
Maybe they took out two birds with one stone....will we ever know?
this was one of my predictions, too!
WOW this is the ultimate documentary about 2NE1 and YG that we all needed. You guys did an amazing job
Thank you! It's just one person actually lol
I always say this - 2ne1 ran so Blackpink could fly. I hope new kpop fans get to know 2ne1 and many other girl groups that have preceded BP. They’re okay, but these ladies are the BoMb
2ne1 was the most perfect girl group who can conceptualize the YG vibe but he made the BIGGEST mistake of disbanding them.
2ne1's musicality is incomparable
Yg waste their talent
Yg loss not 2ne1
I am an American and I grew up listening to 2ne1 Hate you and Ugly were the first videos I saw of the girls ! 👯♀️👯♀️ there are no Kpop groups like them today ! That’s why there Coachella performance after so many years went viral ! 🤩🤩
2NE1 members has never been ugly! They are amazing always has been!
@@TEAM__POSEID0N if 2ne1 continued to released As if it is your Last which is originally made for them, it could be a different story.
And you know, before debut, BP 2ne1 came with so many scandals that they were boycotted by Korea.
Who's here after watching the 2ne1 come back 2024?
I became a K-pop fan during the 2nd gen era and I miss them all so much. Thank you for bringing up this topic again
I still cant imagine if YG handled 2NE1 well because, all that wasted potential ugh..... One of a kind group
This is why I was a YG Stan during the 2ne1 era, it shows in their music, MVs and stage presence.
Fans are fans my friend❤❤dara Phillipines ❤❤❤
@@poonderings Thank you as well for this video. I appreciate it a lot❤

@@xCh3rryBlossomsX then why are you here if you don’t like 2ne1? BP is more popular now but not as good as 2ne1
@@jhey2325 facts BP songs sound the same
@@riyahill9042 and their debut songs were originally 2ne1 songs.
That's awesome to hear! Welcome to the fandom! There is no exit.
2023... crazy

2ne1 are the key why Kpop was Introduced to the World!!
Still can't process why did YG disbanded 2ne1.
Thank you so much for talking about this. I’ve been mentioning these points for years
When no one knows who 2ne1 is, I literally glare at those ppl.
What a well put together piece. I miss 2ne1. I enjoy many kpop songs, but nothing hits as deep as 2ne1's.
Who’s here after our Queens have reunited!? 😭
ME
I don't agree the 2ne1 is ugly girl group they are all beautiful and had unique charisma that make them no. 1 in there era
Sorry but no girl group can compare or even defeat 2ne1's career.. Period
2ne1 are more than looks , I would love to have cl confidence and any of their charisma
They discography is so much better than kpop song these days. 2ne1 can connect with their songs they don’t just sing it, they connect with the song.

👏👏 Great insights. Especially about SWI.T (totally forgot about THAT circus). 100% agree with you on the fates of BP members.

Sadly, baby monsters will have the same yg's gg formula. Just by the name, it's crystal clear.
The problem they will now face is how will they keep blackpink while handling baby monsters.
That label's obsession with having control will be their downfall.
Hope blackpink members can have a fair choice in terms of their contract
This was so well done. Thank you for such a great and informative video.
This is so on point. Thank you for saying the things I find difficult to put into words❤ I love 2ne1 no matter what other kpop fans says.

Noted! Thank you for the feedback about the thumbnail. I'll think about revising it.
The "new 2ne1" thing was ELEVEN years ago? 😮
I said this somewhere else but I think its relevant here:
tbh I know that a lot of people think that they're gonna leave YG but I don't see why, no other company will give them the same opportunities that they have currently, as well as the pay check, even if they went to another big3 company, YG doesn't have as many artists compared to them so they won't be able to provide the same monetary value.
You put love, energy and TRUTH into this video! I really hope more people see it! ✌☝ Hope to see more!
YG was in their golden era when they had 2ne1 and bigbang
A very good analysis. It also clearly defines the reasons why I prefer 2NE1. BP was a great group for a couple of years and they became great stars afterwards but they paid dearly for their stardom; I hope they will survive their disbandment better than 2NE1 (they probably will). And commiserations to BM, or whatever the new group will finally be called.
BTW, I am pretty sure that "one person" was yet another deceit invented by YG in order to lead the public off the trace. Quite successful, obviously.
Welcome back! I’m glad you upload again! I can’t wait for more content
2ne1 deserved better 🫶🏻🖤
This needs to go viral. Blackjack’s have been saying this for years but were called haters 🙄
And the thing that made 2ne1 authentic is that they WROTE their own songs and were heavily involved in the production from beginning to end.
@@desertpanda2713 CL started writing some of the music for their last album

Thanks Janna! I love "I Don't Care!" It's so fun
CANT imagine what these girls suffered in YG hands. 2ne1 deserve their places in heaven
It's very easy to think of Baby Monster as a baby because only one of the members is legally an adult.
LMAO 🤣🤣 11/10 comment im dead
@@poonderings Especially concerning when it regards the man who saw his future wife on TV when she was in middle school, casted her as a trainee when she was 16, admitted that he had a crush on her while she was still a minor, neglected her group so she wouldn't get too popular, started dating her (officially) the moment she became legal and admitted to all of this on TV.
YG died when 2NE1 left.
I love how the subtitles were spelling yang hyun suk as young huck suck, i mean that’s not completely wrong tho lol
I honestly just want YG to go bankrupt because of what they did to 2NE1.
2ne1 is absolutely K-pop Legend.
YG classic :"hmm the group have more power and more independent now, lets makes new group that we can control over "
2NE1 was bullied by they're own management company CEO.
They are BEAUTIFUL
Plus at the height of they're career disbandment.
CL / Lee Chae-rin -leader, rapper, vocals
Bom / Park Bom -lead vocals
Dara / Park Sandara - vocals
Minzy / Gong Minji
- rapper, vocals
Commenting to boost this video, way more people should see it!
In a way, it feels k-pop has moved backwards quite a bit. Instead of grown women expressing themselves, we get a lot of super young girl groups whose members are all supposed to be these perfect human beings. It feels very male gaze-y, like most of the women in k-pop are men's fantasies.
I totally agree! Thanks for the boost!
2NE1 is best GG all the time
I cried when i see them at Coachella
It's my first time cry for K pop group 😢
For me, I like 2ne1's songs that have a variety of genres: fun, dance, or sad. But personally, I think Black Pink has its own way that is different from 2ne1, and both are good without being compared.
Woah. Coming from YG himself? Calling 2ne1 Ugly? The audacity! She forgot Sandara’s visual is unmatched.
I miss my girls so much...no group like 2NE1
2ne1 Always legends 🔥 no one like them espcially live performances
So... 2ne1 came back
agree, 2NE1 is a very iconic group, but BLACKPINK is just so💝
both are great!
2ne1 is more on agressive, rebellion less love compare to black pink you can feel beauty and top love that's is why most of this gen chose black pink.
(Compare how the two boy groups got a year's worth of PRE-DEBUT promotions in reality shows made just for them, such as W.I.N. and Mix & Match...while BP got virtually no pre-debut promotions and nobody even knew who Lisa and Rosie were until they debuted.)
Minzy probably left because YG refused to give her a solo project, while the other three members got them.
