Hey John nice fluke there! Tried monk fish from market was great. Now that I see what they look like... Ugly WOW..Hey FYI Wife and I did great on fluke and stripers in bay on your rods, jig bounce and dark matter. Got a new DM with Twin Power other day as gift for her. She is on cover of this weeks digital the Fisherman magazine. On Your rods... catching everything from porgys to stripers and gator blues so far this June! Thanks again!
Monkfish are great tasting fish even the livers are worth good money! Nice!!! BTW that boat you have is awesome! Was worried about Rick for a while looked like luck wasn't with him for a while did great! Great job Skipper!
Looks like you are doing great out there! Are you fishing montauk or block? Would love to know because fluking was slow when my dad and I went out Memorial Day weekend.
John - What do you use to "recharge" your Gulp .... Is it the spray bottle of the Gulp Saltwater Attractant? If so, what Scent? And, do you mix colors in the same jar when you recharge them and if so, do they bleed?
Thanks fellas! I usually bounce a 1-2 oz sinker with a very similar rig. I do very well especially from shore with this rig. One day I’ll grow up and start applying my bucktails Lmao. One thing at a time… I appreciate you.
I’d LOVE to be able to spend a day on the Boat with you and your friends. You’re TH-cam channel is the BEST. If you’re interested in taking me up on that offer for a Fishing Trip, I’d definitely make the trip up North. I’ll even bring Yall some Louisiana Food and cook a Big Ole Pot of Gumbo too.
Looked like a great trip. Seems like you keep ending up in the stern of the boat lately for your trips..... as opposed to you having the bow back when you were testing the new Nexus rods 🙂 Just wondering if you have a particular preference on where you prefer to fish on the boat?
It's entirely a video thing. Rick's bow is super high. It's better for video if I'm lower to the water. Else I think bow is best because you can move to either side of the boat easily, and it's the first line a fish sees if you're using the trolling motor to help the drift.
Good day of fishing. Nearly spit my coffee when I heard someone say about Halkias- ''Slow down, slow down, release the bail", I watch his videos but he's overbearing.
He's not even a little bit overbearing. He's just obsessively concerned with the success of his clients and he speaks up when he sees his advice will help.
Like to Know where your fishing because off the RI shore misq. to charleston RI Fluke are GONE.Historcally over the last 25 years There has always been a prevalant amout of fluke..last couple years nothing ...Stripers and seabass thats about it Fluke are not even worth targeting ....there so few and far between
This was Montauk. When that isn't producing we fish near the BI windmills. Your observations of the fluke disappearing in your area is consistent with the drop in catches in LI Sound the last 5 seasons.

Very cool getting on the cover of The Fisherman! I'm glad you like the rods!
Nice trip John good to see Montauk coming to life!!!!!!
Love the banter, and boy that monk fish has a serious mouth.
Great Info. Im going to Montauk for my first time next week.
Monkfish is the poor man’s lobster. Another great video Skinner, keep up the great work.
Boys are dialed in! Gonna be some good eating this Summer! Thanks for sharing John and crew!
Happy Father's day! Great vidio!
Like your metal shark trips on Ricks boat. Happy Fathers Day Mr. Skinner. Lou

Nice Monk John!!!!
Enjoying reading new book. Happy Father’s Day
Thanks for sharing that and thanks for your support!
Love to see the Rick-set bringing the meat!
6:36 Rick don't play.
Nice limit. Amazing how fast after hook up you said Monkfish.
Was this on Friday, I think I saw you fishing!
Yes.
Good time was had by all.
Who put us on the fish?
@@JohnSkinnerFishing
That’s right. Rick that’s who
I’m sure Halkias loved Rick’s comment watching this, haha!
Monkfish is GREAT!
Skinner's the monk man now.
Cool video. Any chance anyone knows the name of that power handle on jacks reel at 11:45. Looks like an Accurist reel
I link to a power handle in my video description. Not sure if it's the same as Jack's.
Flounder, they are an excellent fish to eat.
Rick-set in action.

Montauk
i'd love to hear how you prepare and cook monkfish. like most people, i've never caught one.
Step 1: google "how to clean a monkfish"... It's only my third one ever.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing you clean them kind of like skinning a catfish you score the skin then filet it off the tail
What type of species of fish does it taste like
Would like to try it one day if they offer it in a restaurant
@@tomtripptree5079 I'd compare it to BlowFish. Chicken of the Sea.
@@tomtripptree5079 they have actually been having it for sale fresh in Costco.
Doormat city right there. Great trip!! By the way, what make is the boat you guys were on? Good looking center console.
Metal Shark

It's the recharge juice in the 8-ounce bottles. I think there's only one scent of that. We mix colors and they don't bleed.
How many cranks off the bottom do you keep your bucket tail for fluke ?
Keep bottom contact the entire time
Just off the bottom, else you'll snag in rocky areas.

Awesome fishing! And an ugly monkfish too :-)

I see you’re using two bucktails at once. What size are you running when you do two bucktails for 90’ of water? Thanks John.
Depends on wind and current. It's not two bucktails, but a 3-6 ounce bucktail on the bottom and a 3/8 ounce teaser on top.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing perfect thank ya!
Maybe I missed it, but what was the water temp?
59
Throw back the flounder and focus on Angler fish! Delicious! Easy to filet. Can be cooked like scampi or Scallops. Firm white meat.
Maybe the best eating fish I've ever had.
Yeah fresh monkfish are delcious
A Flounder is a small Halibut, tasty....throw Flounder back ? Your Crazy !
@@josephk4310 referring to how good to eat the anglerfish are. I do like flounder also.
That monkfish looks like a giant toadfish
a Beautiful thing to see
What are your thought on using floro vs mono for fluke?
Mono is fine. I use fluoro because it's more abrasion resistant.
What would be a good jig and bounce reel? I am in the market for one
I use an Accurist for Fluke and a Maxel Hybrid for bass.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thank you
The mouth on that Monkfish...
Can you use your hand to hold a monkfish by the mouth?...........................lol!
