When I was a boy of 12 in 1954, living in rural Appalachia, I had very little money and seldom bought anything. But when the local music store had a Tchaikovsky album on sale for peanuts, I raided my piggy bank and bought it -- for Side A, the famous piano concerto. Only later, did I discover this composition on Side B and loved it so much I played it repeatedly, to my mother's astonishment. But I considered it "a guilty pleasure" later in life, when I learned that professional musicians seemed rather dismissive of it, perhaps because it is technically less difficult than some modern compositions and perhaps because it is so wildly romantic in an age when romance is out of fashion. So I found it affirming to read the comments here and learn that many others love it too. My thanks to you all.
Good for you that is very beautiful and amazing.. I always say music finds its way to you! Iove this piece.. Tchaikovsky is one of favorite composers followed by Rachmaninoff!
Great story. When I was 21 the CD was in a store for$2. I only knew Nutcracker suite at the time. I doubled my knowledge of Tchaikovsky and began to study classical music more. I always loved the melody of this piece.
Me, I am such a 'romantic' that I want the Capriccio played at my funeral to have so this music will tell how wonderful my life had been with ups and downs, and everything! Just the right length and emphasis. Glad to know there are others.on this planet who can see the point of life and not twist everything out of shape!
Might be Tchaikovsky's most majestic composition. He was the greatest of them all because of his astounding versatility. Symphonies, concertos (especially piano), opera, choral, chamber, stand alone masterworks like this one, one of the first great song writers (None But the Lonely Heart), & of course, his magnificent ballets.
Of several interpretations, I don't think I have heard a better one than this one, you just have to see the director's face as he enjoys the play in its entirety, especially at the end of the play.
he's in pure ecstasy while working hard in a profession that he loves doing, making tens of thousands of others happy - that's all I wish for Christmas this year 🙌
One of my all time favorites, and this is one of my all favorite performances of it. Every time I hear a piece like this I just try to imagine what it would be like trying to compose music with such complexity and yet still have it sound so wonderfully musical. Classical composers are breed all their own.
MAI SENTITO UN CAPRICCIO iTALIANO MIGLIORE DI QUESTO, COME AUDIO, PERFEZIONE, DISTINZIONE DEGLI STRUMENTI E IL RISPETTO RIGOROSO DEGLI ALTI E I BASSI. COMPLIMENTI A TUTTI I PROFESSORI D'ORCHESTRA
You can hear the influence of Tchaikovsky in the music of John Williams. I can hear the "Superman March" in this parts of this piece. Parts of Swan Lake in the Empire Strikes Back soundtrack.
in 1980 i was in Italy for 6 weeks training.i bought a radio recorder first day.(it was impossible to buy in my country which was in big chaos then).when i was searching channels on radio.i met this masterpiece on a channel which was doing test brodcasting. they were playing this awesome music repeatedly. so i loved it and listened during 6 weeks ,maybe 500 times.
I played this piece as 1st chair trumpet back in high school a million years ago. Those technical solos starting at 8:14 or so were very difficult to play at tempo back then and still doesn't sound that easy even with a pro spitting into the mouthpiece. A relatively simple orchestral piece that is meant for expressivity across all instruments.... truly a beautiful piece of music.
That's indeed a moment - not even a minute - where a lot happens in the section of trumpets / trombones / clarinets / flutes, in a different tempo and emotion...
Bravo for the 1st chair in high school. You are the last of those who have been exposed to the great masters of music. Tchaikovsky made it difficult on purpose. Why else would you want it to be any different. In his day he was a rock star. A simple performance would be unacceptable.
The first movement of this was in a very old game I dug up as a kid, and I've loved it ever since. Many performances play it at a slightly faster tempo that frustrates me. I feel like this one gives it a touch more room to breathe

Music is universal. When I feel angry at what Putin is doing, I think of how much we owe to the Russian people for their music, ballet and literature. Thank you for the reminder.
I have listened to quite a few performances of capriccio Italien, and I have to say that this is the best rendition I have heard. Not to fast or to slow. Just perfect. A performance to be very proud of. Let me tell you, I have love this performance from the day you uploaded it 4 years ago, and I still do . Thank you so much.

This is Het Concertgebouw in the city of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Every Sunday at 11.00 till 12.00 in the morning a 'popular' concert is broadcasted live at the radio and later on TH-cam broadcasted by the broadcasting companies AVRO & TROS. Usually low prices but it lasts only for one hour. Most of the time it is a full house and I would have been there living only 6 km away, but there was the Festival of Early Music in Utrecht.

I call this performance "Very High Quality of Enjoyment" - as Tchaikovsky's works are by definition. Wonderful.
👍👍🏆

Tchaikovsky, my favoritt, always something surprising, new and exciting
Fantabulous! Well done that man - and those men and women! Peerless! Superb!
" نزوة ايطالية" من اجمل المؤلفات الموسيقية التي كان لها اثر في تعلقي و ادماني سماع الموسيقي الكلاسيكية منذ كنت طالب ثانوي.
God bless you and may you enjoy listening to such sublime music for years to come.

I remember playing this piece…. So many good memories. It really got the adrenaline pumping
Brilliant. The best version of Capriccio Italien on you tube by a mile. What an ending.
What a joyful and happy piece of music! Watch the conductor's face at the end. Love it!
he's in pure ecstasy while working hard in a profession that he loves doing, making tens of thousands of others happy - that's all I wish for Christmas this year 🙌
Really brilliant performance. I love this piece.
I played this music on the piano. I am happy to hear it again after many years in a beautiful performance.

Yes, indeed, a very fine example of how to enjoy Tchaikovsky to its fullest.
Quite wonderful. Than you all so very much. August 2023, England.

One of the most beautiful pice of classic.
One of my favorite Tchaikovsky movements. Also good traveling with
This has always been a "happy drug" for me, better than any antidepressant.
Tchaikovsky is the superman of music.

@@dmm3124I thought the same
Simply one of the finest pieces of music ever written. Bravissimo!

Fantastic performance !!!
Not only a great performance of one of my favourite pieces of music but also outstanding camera work. One of the best videos I have seen.
Bravo! Forever Tchaikovsky!
The first time I heard this piece was on the rollercoaster 'Revolution' in Bobbejaanland in belgium
How can you NOT like this?
What a magnificent performance of this beautiful piece. Thank you,

Great to catch up this concert which I could not make it myself. Thank you AVRO & TROS
I'll post this very good performance on my fb timeline on the night of St. Valentine's Day 2021.
One of my favorite pieces. The conductor however is like a boat lost at sea.

Wundervoll!

Excellent performance; thanks! Why isn't it called Capriccio Italiano? Why the Italien?
Tchaikovsky had visited Italy and he liked the local vibe and music it inspired him to compose this piece base on that and his own ear.
