One thing I find hard about rising in ranks in a club is that most of the time, leadership spots are usually given to students who are popular, rather than the amount of effort they put in. Yes, they would also need to put in a lot of work, but I have seen many people who have work very hard, yet was never given the chance to get into a leadership position due to them being introverted.
Ayyyy! I have absolutely zero interest in anything NHS related, so I never applied. Was worried it’d damage my apps but it sounds like it helped for me not to join so I could have more time for they things I’m actually very into

If anyone sees this, I was rejected from NHS because I wasn't diversified in my volunteering enough. I spend 100+ on a select few things, which I personally believe is more valuable then half-assing an abundance of volunteer opportunities instead of becoming extremely involved in a few. Will this hurt me in the long run? I have a very good GPA and strong EC's as well as some personal tech-related projects that may look good. Just curious. I'm not sweating it too much, but it kind of pissed me off because it benefitted those who were just doing it for the hours rather than those who really cared.
Nope. NHS is just a means to take part in those activities that may be helpful in your credentials, networking with other people, or your career. If those are activities that you can continue to do without NHS, then NHS would not be that valuable. Those ECs and personal projects will be much more important, and most of the different NHS do not have benefits that compensate for the effort (and maybe money) as good compared to other means outside the NHS.
If you have a around $5000 for 3 weeks camp at a top liberal arts college (that provides college credit), would that err on the more useful side or not? I don't know if their admit rates were more lax for the summer program.
Hi! I wanted to organize a music club called the WL Student Music Association of Readiness and Technique (SMART) to give out free music private lessons, perform music, and attend music competitions. Do you have any suggestions or tips on where to start?
Student council, but make your membership notable. Do something that makes you stand out. Being Student Body President won’t do anything for you unless you do notable things with the position
Create your own club related to something that you are interested in. It shows initiative and passion, especially if your club is able to accomplish something big.
Would it be different if you were the one that started the initiative to bring a large club to your school? I'm trying to start a Key Club at my relatively small high school for multiple reasons, and I do have an interest in it, I'm just not sure if there will be people interested in working with me for htis.
Honestly this video is BS. Most kids don’t have equal nor many opportunities. A lot of the extracurriculars you listed are common for a reason… what the hell are we supposed to do?? Form a billion dollar company? Cure cancer? Form a new country? Like come on.
Creating a club is great, and it doesn't really require anything but dedication You can get funding if you work at it enough, and even without that, all you need is for people to show up and have fun, and your club made a positive influence Maybe some people don't have the free time to do that, but all you really need is time
if anyone’s still looking for good extracurriculars in high school -- Student Bono. they have some pretty good internships for students and they’re pretty frequently putting out opportunities too Edit: best of luck to everyone on their college apps
Please listen to the important message at the beginning! And remember that this mainly applies to top colleges only!

How do you know?? What you are saying makes logical sense, but other than that how do you know what the heck admissions thinks about this stuff?
Hey! im almost at 100! also do u use final cut pro x to edit cuz i recognize the transition. if u do, i do too!
what about Yale Young Global Scholars or Harvard Undergraduate International Relations Scholars Program? These are selective. What are your thoughts?
What about the summer programs where you apply and be selected, and then pay or get financial aid from the program?
I disagree on #1 it's what you achieve while in it.
Do you have any recommandation for international students? Anything similar to wolfram high school pogram?
What do you use to edit your videos?
Bro my NHS chapter rejected 2/3 of the applicants
That’s not common. Most schools just let anyone in
Those trips people take are just their parents shelling out money for them to do things they could do at home.
Did you do it?
guys which one is better for college? NHS or student council
I think if you have a board position in student council, it stands out more.
Probably student council not that it’s a good thing since it’s usually just a big popularity contest tbh
Student council, but make your membership notable. Do something that makes you stand out. Being Student Body President won’t do anything for you unless you do notable things with the position
@@drummerboy0620i am running for stuco but I am not really sure how to stand out with something more special if u could help
Can you recommend the extra curriculums help for college applications?
Create your own club related to something that you are interested in. It shows initiative and passion, especially if your club is able to accomplish something big.
Exactly, I'm doing that rn and it's very difficult, but definitely looks great, and it's pretty interesting to try and organize
Would it be different if you were the one that started the initiative to bring a large club to your school? I'm trying to start a Key Club at my relatively small high school for multiple reasons, and I do have an interest in it, I'm just not sure if there will be people interested in working with me for htis.
Late but yes that would make a difference.
If I were the President of the National honor society would that help me?
What about njhs National junior honors society
Do it. It's a great precursor for NHS
Would going to nationals in speech in debate set you apart from other members?
Debate is probably the most valued skill of any EC, so absolutely
Opinion on Latin club?
All this BS is exactly the program for rich kids by their very expensive private counselors.
I want to get into MIT but didn't have any extra circulars yet. Can you help me to get into MIT.
And I'm currently studying in grade 12 in India.
Same bro can you tell me also if u found something
Hobbies and things you spend a lot of time on outside of school are extracurriculars as well.
I just glad I joined NJHS so I can get my hours 😅
7:33 WTF is that
I GOT 100 SUBSCRIBERS OMG
Honestly this video is BS. Most kids don’t have equal nor many opportunities. A lot of the extracurriculars you listed are common for a reason… what the hell are we supposed to do?? Form a billion dollar company? Cure cancer? Form a new country? Like come on.
Creating a club is great, and it doesn't really require anything but dedication
You can get funding if you work at it enough, and even without that, all you need is for people to show up and have fun, and your club made a positive influence
Maybe some people don't have the free time to do that, but all you really need is time
@@scarmackd1498 Easier said than done.
if anyone’s still looking for good extracurriculars in high school -- Student Bono. they have some pretty good internships for students and they’re pretty frequently putting out opportunities too
Edit: best of luck to everyone on their college apps
