Very true I work at one of these plants, only im in the receiving/raw materials area. And we're not just spring mix, were majority iceberg and romaine. A cleaning crew comes in at night and cleans and sanitizes the entire plant bc some forms of lettuce carry bacteria if left to heat. First thing in the morning the entire plant is immaculately cleaned and sanitized, then the process starts over again.
Makes you appreciate how much work goes into what seems like a simple box of spring mix that you buy every week. The washing and drying is interesting to me because that is one of the biggest conveniences these boxes offer when it’s time to make a quick meal.
alot of people take for granted that these people are all essential workers too. Must be nice she gets discounted product but wouldn't it been nicer for you if she worked at Hostess or Hershey :)
Are you referring to Chlorine? If so, yes, it’s a very commonly used sanitizer in wash water in the produce industry, in general, and especially with leafy greens. If you purchase a container/bag of greens (including spring mix) that’s labeled as having been triple-washed, that means it’s been washed with chlorine or an equivalent.
It depends, but in all cases, the grower/packer/processor is going to want to get the harvested/packed/processed product ran through the facility and to the customer as quickly as possible since lettuce has such a short shelf-life.
That is a good question! Chlorine is a common sanitizer that is used. Companies do not include what sanitizer they use on their labels, but you can tell if the lettuce has gone through the triple-rinse, by there being some sort of indication that the lettuce is ready-to-eat, triple-washed, washed, or something of that sort on the label.
@@Theproducenerd thanks. Also your video had saved me some time and effort. I was planning to write the seller of my baby spring mix until I saw your video. Looking forward to see more. I already subscribed by the way!
@@Theproducenerd Is it necessary to wash these salads before eating them? If it's been triple-rinsed I don't see any reason to wash it again but their are a lot of people out here who think it's gross to not wash these salads again. So what's your take?
Very inefficient production line. Cant understand why they are not using a vertical bagger in instead of that manually operated tray and lid system. More product on the belt and floor than in the containers!
Good thing they dont give workers their own wellingtons. Theyd probably deduse at least 30£ from wage. And without - one just has to find right or almost right size just before the shift. And itf morover their dry...perfect.
Another great video. Lots of product not getting to the containers.

I am grateful that people invented these machines and grew such plants for healthy living

Thanks for this video. I will continue to wash all my packaged lettuce.
Always wash your fruits, vegetables and salad even if the labels say washed and ready to eat. 😉
My mom works on one and I waned to see how they work 👍 thanks and nice video 😄

@@dave1927p I don't usually eat candies and I do eat salad so it's fine 😂
Do they spray with chemicals
Great idea! You can refill those containers to grow plants from seeds after eating the salad.
sticker for who;
Great vid! How about a Brussel Sprouts vid, assuming this is harvested near you.
I will try for it!
Interesting
I know they put chlore on regular salad bags but the question if they use chlore on spring mix‼️ and what do u mean by sanitized water

When do they clean the dirty lettuce up thats everywhere?
What is sanitized water?
Probably bleach!
how long does it take for lettuce from farmed to shipping?

Does anyone know if they spray with chemicals
But how do they get the salad in the box if the box is sealed?
There is a machine where the lettuce gets dumped into the containers and then the machine seals it.
Is the sanitizer washed off?
Organically grown, then washed in chlorine, makes sense.
Hi, will you be able to tell if bleach is used in the so called sanitized water?

@@triggb71 For the triple-washed salad mixes, I eat them without washing them. If they are fresh and smell normal, I don’t think twice about it.
all these workers for sallad greens, they must be selling massively, and i can't even get any customer to buy my organic mixes
Sad World when it comes to salads in containers! Sanitized water means bleach! Bagged salad tastes terrible too
3:15 metal detector for unnecessary food radiation?

Why so much on the floor???
That's a great question! After the initial step, the majority of the process is automated, so it is really an issue with improving that process.

There are too much wastge here, well I guess they still make a lot of profits.
Who else came here after hearing that a rat was found in the salad bag from subway
It's not my favorite!
