I'm not sure what's more mind-blowing. The fact that the studio managed to pull off one of the most iconic yet difficult dance routines of MJ's career with multiple models of different sizes, and successfully mirror the music video it came from, or the fact that Illumination Studios, of all businesses, with its track record for mediocre films, was the one who pulled this off! People would generally think Sony, Disney, or even DreamWorks would pull this off, but Illumination?!?
Probably the fact that they replicated the same dance with so many characters models. Really, anyone’s capable of referencing the scene. But when they actually do it, it's never the whole routine. So being able to do the entire thing while also being accurate to the original is respectable, regardless of who makes it. Still, major props to Illumination, of all studios, for making it happen.

And it's definitely a treat to watch, and is a wonderful way to introduce the present kids to one of the biggest music icons in history. Literally, the only gripe I have with the short is that it not only has the same narrative pacing problem as MJ's OG music video, but it unfortunately makes the pacing problem of the original more prominent.

I’m with you guys, even though I don’t have Netflix anymore, (which is the only way to watch this) just the fact that an animation subsidiary of Universal with only 15 films under its belt, was able pull of such a sick dance sequence replicating the famous music video.

Just saw this. Absolutely love it. I adore anything from this franchise. Literally the only thing they did wrong in this, was (spoiler)... the last "twist" where Crawley turns around to show her hypnotized/zombified eyes. One of them is a fake eye! It should have been the usual glossy sheen! It would have been a beautiful attention to detail!
I mean, when I was a chyyyld in 1982(or 83), i wasn't old enough to stay up and watch Thriller when it was first shown on TV. And now kids of any age can watch a GCI animation of the dance routine on social media. How times have changed...
