    As an administrator you should configure that you have access to each user folder in Folder redirection. I would uncheck "grant the user exclusive rights to (folder). But overall very good explanation. When client PC loses sync to FolderRediection- sometimes its very difficult to get it back in sync.

    Is it better to set the target folder for this from a SAN iSCSI storage location?
    if so what will be faster, using iSCSI on Layer 2 Fiber mode or maybe just on an M.2 Drive on the DC host.
    Which is also better for security and latency due to being on TCP layer or bound to Mac Address if using Fiber Mode.

    Thank you, a fantastic tutorial! However, it did not work for my administrator, maybe because my GPO is linked to an OU.

    Wny don't you have create files/write data permission? Isn't that necessary for the user to create new files or write existing files?

    Do you have to run dhcp and dns servers on the domain server for folder redirection to work? Does the server have to have a static IP?

    • @MSFTWebCast
      @MSFTWebCast  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Folder redirection does not have anything with DHCP. You can use static or dynamic IP without any issue.

    If the user have notebook and connect to another network, the files will not be available right? Or is it possible to keep the Desktop on both server and local disk?

    Hello.
    I would like to know a thing. When you set the a policy, you are setting for the OU or group? because you set this policy for a specific group, but when you are on GPO management, you click right / edit in a OU and not on a group. Can you explain?

    • @MSFTWebCast
      @MSFTWebCast  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I have set the policy for OU. So gpo is going to apply on all the user account store under that OU. I used group to setup permission on the shared folder.
      Note: If you want to apply the GPO to specific users then you can use group policy security filtering option.

      If the security group is already under that OU and User is a member of that group, still we need to move user to that OU ?

    hi i make folder redirection , you don't have permission access folder user profile can't open server system ,how view the user folders

    • @MSFTWebCast
      @MSFTWebCast  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, by default only users can access the folders. When you configured the folder redirection policy at that time in the properties menu you will find "Grant the use exclusive rights".
      Removing the checkbox will do the trick. you can also use group policy to add administrator group to the profile folder.

    where is the offline files configuration? if the server down all the file on the client pc will disappear right?

    • @dany1247
      @dany1247 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to Control Panel, then go to Sync Center. Go to Managed Offline files and make sure it is enabled. You'll have to restart your computer if you made changes.

  • @timpeek6480

    Followed step by step. Desktop is the only folder that redirects. Local computer documents under Properties/Location still has C:\Windows\Users
    dickerson\documents

    • @MSFTWebCast
      @MSFTWebCast  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you configure the shared path properly on documents? If yes then, update the group policy again and reboot the system.
      Use rspo.msc to check which policies are currently applying on the users/system.

      @@MSFTWebCast They looked to be synced now but all user folders on the server D:\FolderRedirect\%User% have Size 0 bytes. How can I view the contents or size of folder as Administrator. We want to do clod backups but have no idea of what size all users documents are.

    When would you use redirection?

    • @MSFTWebCast
      @MSFTWebCast  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For roaming user. If your users are never sat at the same computer then this is pretty much a must. In roaming profile, entire profile will store on file server while in folder redirection, you have choice to choose the folder which will redirect to server.

    You did not show how you setup the security group. That ended up being my issue. i did not have a Security Group. I applied everything to the Users OU.

      Didn't I? Have you watched the video completely?
      Watch at time 00:22 to 00:55 and 07:56 to 08:25.
      Note: By the way in group policy management console, you are not able to apply GPO to "Users" container or OU.
      Already i mention that I have One OU name Tech with users and both users are member of security group name "TechUsers". Even I have setup permission with that group. I have applied GPO to Tech OU.
