On this day, the Constitution of India came into effect, which made India a republic. 26th January is the day we celebrate the Republic Day of India. Even after our country got freedom from the British on 15th August 1947, the day we now celebrate Independence Day, India was still governed by the laws of the British. People started to feel that India needed its own set of rules, a Constitution that really spoke to our values and dreams.
January 26, 1950. This date was chosen as it was the anniversary of Purna Swaraj Day, which was held on January 26, 1930.
কেন ২৬ জানুয়ারিতেই উদযাপন করা হয় এই দিনটি? প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবস পালনের কারণ কী? ১৯৪৭ সালের ১৫ আগস্ট ব্রিটিশদের কাছ থেকে স্বাধীনতা লাভের পর, ভারতে কোনও সক্রিয় সংবিধান ছিল না। পরবর্তীকালে, ২৯ আগস্ট ১৯৪৭-এ ডঃ বি.আর. আম্বেদকরকে চেয়ারম্যান হিসাবে নিযুক্ত করে একটি খসড়া কমিটি গঠন করা হয়, সংবিধান তৈরির জন্য। ৪ নভেম্বর ১৯৪৭ সালে, সংবিধানের একটি আনুষ্ঠানিকখসড়া গণপরিষদে পেশ করা হয়।
১৯৫০ সালের ২৪ জানুয়ারি চূড়ান্ত ভাবে গৃহীত হয়ে সেই সংবিধান। সংবিধান গৃহীত হলেও আগামী দুই দিনের জন্য সেই সংবিধান কার্যকর হয় না। ২৬ জানুয়ারী, ভারতের সংবিধান আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে বাস্তবায়িত হয়, যা ভারতকে একটি সার্বভৌম প্রজাতন্ত্রে পরিবর্তন করে।
