  • Dr. Andrew S. Grove, Former Chairman & CEO Intel Corporation
Of Microchips and Men: Tales from the Translational Medicine Front
    Thursday, April 5, 2012 | 3:00pm
Sibley Auditorium, Bechtel Engineering Center, UC Berkeley
Andy Grove is a true pioneer of microelectronics. In that industry, rapid advances in technology, efficiently deployed, led to a revolution in business and in the way we live. Is such a revolution possible today in medicine? New medical technologies are coming fast, but translating them into drugs, devices, and diagnostics is agonizingly slow. How do we open the pipeline to get life-changing technologies to market-without increasing the cost of care?
The Ernest S. Kuh Distinguished Lecture Series is made possible by the generosity of Professor Emeritus and Mrs. Ernest Kuh. It will be held annually and feature an accomplished engineering professional from industry or academia. For more information, visit coe.berkeley.ed....

Thought provoking speech. Can see his OKR approach sprinkled through out, focus on what you want to get done, measure to know if you are getting it done and be ready to change course if you are not getting it done. Thanks Berkeley Engineering for uploading this talk.

Andrew has the "Dr. Strangelove" motor control issue going on, and yet his mind is powerful, his integrity admirable and his humor sustainable. Thank you for posting this.

Promoting their institution it seems. "Selling it" on it's merits, by taking credit for this man's achievements.

In typical analytic fashion so much of this talk was about 'cost' and 'economics'. If the USA shifted much of its preoccupation with its trillion dollar military and exploding incarceration institutions to health care, suddenly the monetary problem is solved. Like anything, clear thinking and clear objectives is key. We get what we look for.
