Despicable Me 4 Looks Like A Lot Of Fun

- Some people might say that Illumination is milking the Despicable Me franchise for all it's worth. And they'd be right. It got a bit close there with a drop in quality of Despicable Me 3, but since Minions: The Rise of Gru and how these trailers have panned out, it seems that Illumination has been proving me wrong. They can turn this around! And as long as the movies still feel fresh and fun, milk them for all they're worth! So anyway, here's me trying to string thread some semblance of a story from a pretty hilarious yet cunningly secretive trailer. Enjoy.

Casting Will Ferrell as an old enemy from Gru's past would have been funny enough on its own, but having him come back for revenge the same year Dreamworks finally did an actual Megamind follow-up (which Ferrell didn't even bother coming back for) just brings it all the way home.
What follow up?

It looks like it'll mostly ignore the events of the third film. Mel is one of the mega minions I believe so he's one of the few connections but otherwise it seems it won't be mentioned much. Dru and Fritz are nowhere to be seen suggesting Dru might have left offscreen (a good thing to be honest), Balthazar Bratt is nowhere to be seen (not like I expected him to return but he would have been welcomed), Silas Ramsbottom is back at the AVL instead of that woman who fired Gru and Lucy and it seems as though Agnus' goat/unicorn plotline was forgotten as she doesn't bring that along with her. I would have liked Gru to introduce Dru to his mum, that might possibly happen but hopefully Dr Nefario makes a return. The allegations were made back in September so I would have thought they would have started the voice work by then. I think it's highly likely if Dr Nefario isn't in the film, it's unrelated to the allegations. Seeing as he was in Minions 2 recently I would like to think he'll return here. I get the feeling Victor or Mr Perkins could have a cameo as people are convinced that those two are being set up to return and their recent cameos could suggest they'll be back.

I'm still wondering how they got all the Minions back into the AVL if they're supposed to be working for Dru.
Edit: i meant "most". Almost forgot Dave & Jerry stayed.
Maybe not all of the minions went with Dru and opted to stay with Gru, or they only went on the single heist we see at the end of the 3rd movie. Or most likely illumination was to scared to have a despicable Me without minions since they are so popular and trying to incorporate them plus dru would leave the movie bloated with to many story lines.
The Real Question is how did the fat man become the leader of AVL again? if he was replaced by a grumpy lady in the 3rd movie and thrown on an airship.

I have doubts because if you compare it to Ice Age 4 it seems like Jump the shark [at least Ice Age was more consistent]. It is on the same downgrade as Hotel Tranformania but not to that degree but close. I missed moves like Ice Age sequels and Rio 2.
