I have a Klaus Heyne U87 and it’s the best sounding mic I have. It has these emotional, silky highs that bring out the raspiness and air out of my voice. It’s like someone is pulling these frequencies out of my throat. JJP Vocals has a magic fader that comes closest to the phenomenon in terms of acoustic depiction.
Allan, what preamps are you using the 87? We have went between the TT MEC 1-a and Neve clone run through at CL1-B. It's hard to make the mic sound anything but good.
@@lancewendlandt3384 I use an AMS Neve 1073 with Marinair Transformers or the input gain of my Cl1B compressor. Depends on the sound I want. The latter sounds more modern and clean.
For my voice the MEC1a seems to win the blind shootouts for us. The API 500 paired with a TT-CL1B is a close second. Klaus recommends an orginal NEVE which I (we...my bro and I) don't have, but I am really happy with the Vintage 67/MEC1a combo.
The original u67 sounds a little darker. This has more high frequencies. Both are still great microphones but this mic seems to be more modern and the other was more vintage.
Just curious why your mic is so low compared to where your mouth is ? Also not using a pop filter will expose your capsule to contamination, breath, spit etc
thats for the video. our AV dept is 1/2 assed👀 by the way, the weird reverb that ends up being on this video audio is nothing like what the mic sounds like to Mike actually sounds great ….
mec1a is the most common pre we are using but I would say we are still experimenting. It's such a great warm, analog-y sounding mic that we are currently mix and matching with solid state and hybrid pres. So far it's impossible to make the mic sound bad or even average. It's creamy and sits in the track extremely well.

@@allanfurst9913 Do you have a sample recording using this chain?
Do you have a vocal take that shows it s sound?
I wonder how the Klaus Heyne Version of the u87 would sound like.

Nice! What is your favorite pre for the U67? Tube tech Mec1a?
