    Thanks Uncle Ben. You're my favorite teacher, always excellent videos. I've followed your teachings and video learnings since hearing the Blood Mountain album. Lots of Mastodon, VH and little tricks learned from you. The recent video on anchoring your thumb for quick changes in a small area was simple but blew my mind (20 years playing and never noticed that!) Great explaining and clean/fun playing. You're the best teacher I've found (top 15 for sure! lol), and your patreon page is worth it as well. Support good music!

  • @canman87
    @canman87 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've played some stuff like this before, but I'm definitely going to snag the backing track for it and see how well I can crank this out at higher BPMs. If I'm being totally honest with myself, my hand synchronicity can use some work from time to time.
    For the record, I've also really been enjoying your drone tracks as a cool way to warmup with some improv, which is also helping me learn the neck a bit better at the same time. That's a helluva lot of value for such a low price on your Patreon, so thanks for creating those!
    As for the lift/latch point, I think I do it the same as you where I only latch at higher speeds. I'd have to sit down and analyze it to say for sure, but I'm fairly sure that's what I do as well.

    Cool exercise! I'll have to see what I can do to test it out and get it up to tempo.
    Also: I'd really want to try the exercise flipping some of the E minor to A minor transitions to E minor to E7 to A minor. That sort of secondary dominant transition (or at least going from E to A min to imply it) is such a cool flavor especially for a more neoclassical-style etude like this. Could probably just flip some of the Gs to G#s to get the effect too.

    This doesn't really correlate to this video specifically, but I'm putting it here anyway. When I was in my early teens I picked up playing guitar, had a couple acoustics and played church music because that's all I was allowed to listen to, and I'd sneak in a lot of country. But I would play for hours every day. it's all I wanted to do. After moving out I got into electric guitar and watched a lot of your videos and other people like Marty Schwartz and stuff like that. I started to slowly taper off playing until I almost never played, going months sometimes without picking a guitar up, and then it would really get to me and I'd start to play but because I hadn't been playing I'd lost my edge, and that was depressing so I'd put it down and leave it at that. But for the last couple of years, I have really fallen in love with the guitar again. I don't know a lot of like music theory or actual proper techniques and stuff like that, but I do have over a decade of experience playing guitar and I am learning new things all the time and applying it to my noodling. All of that really is to say thanks for everything you do, and watching your videos is always inspiring to me to learn new things or refine my playing in general.
