  • Famous Brochers from the Fraserburgh 400 Pageant 1992
    The Fraserburgh 400 Pageant was held on the 5th of July 1992 to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the town coming into being four centuries earlier on the 1st of July 1592
    The historical pageant depicted many scenes and events from Fraserburgh’s History and included a section called “Famous Brochers”. A “Brocher” is someone who comes from Fraserburgh, which is known locally as “the Broch”.
    Local personalities dressed as historical characters from Fraserburgh's past and took part in the pageant representing the following “Famous Brochers”
    Bill Gibb a famous Fashion Designer
    The Webster family of seven artists.
    Gordon Mitchell Forsyth an artist, educator and ceramicist
    Christian Watt a nineteenth century fishwife from Broadsea whose memoirs detailing a life of hardship had recently been published.
    John Cranna the harbour treasurer from 1878 - 1932 and author of “Fraserburgh Past and Present”(1914)
    James Ramsay 1733-1789 an Anti Slavery Campaigner
    Thomas Blake Glover 1838-1911 a founder of Modern Japan
    Charles Rawden Maclean aka John Ross, the Boy Hero of Africa
    Sir George Anderson born 1845 Treasurer of the Bank of Scotland
    Robertson Macaulay born 1833 president of Sun Life Assurance
    Dr John Clark 1865-1910 representing all our scholars, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cairo
    Dr Jean Benzie born 1899 who did missionary work in India
    Lt Commander Stewart Slessor winner of the Polar Medal in 1946
    William Whyte 1868 -1942 a Baker who emigrated to South Africa and left a considerable fortune.
