This is my djent / metal cover of @Sleep-Token's "DYWTYLM" using vocals from the masked frontman himself!
To say "Take Me Back to Eden" was a banger of an album would be an understatement, and this is one song that stood out to me from the rest. At first I thought it was a strange sudden shift compared to the other songs, but at the same time part of the reason I love these guys is cause of the diversity they bring. And boy I played this song on repeat probably a hundred times! No.101 is when I stopped and said "wait... what would this sound like if it was super heavy?" - that's when I got to work!
Hope you guys enjoy this re-imagining of the song! Of course, the vocals are acapella from the original song - I do not own any rights to said acapella, lyrics, or original composition by Sleep Token.

THIS! So many fan-made recreations miss the mark, especially when making a heavier version. It's often just the vocals layered over metal instrumentals. This one introduced additional pop elements that weren't in the original, but bridged the difference in a way that preserved the soul of the original.
Well to be honest, I was prepared not to like this, but I was surprised. Like another commenter said, this version really respects the original. It doesn't just make it heavier, it adds other genres to the mix as well. Well done.

I'm reaaaally impressed with what you've done with SSD 5 kit - I'm assuming it's the free one? Care to share some mix tips or process?
Thank you! It is SSD 5.5 but the paid version, on this song I’ve mixed 2 samples together for both snare and kick for a thick punchy sound. I keep routing minimal for the most part and send direct and room mics to the same channel for kick, snare, toms, hihat, and cymbals. Mixing wise I like to use JST clip for gain staging, JST EQ, standard compressor, add saturation with Magma BB Tubes, JST Transify to shape transients occasionally. Then on the bus I use a drum bus compressor, more saturation, maybe a touch of mild EQ. Maybe I’ll do a vid on my mixes sometime soon!

This song gets a lot of flack because of how light it is, but it's a deceptively complex track that has something to say. That said... I love this version, maybe even more than the original. Plus, the bass mix is catastrophic.

This is not heavy metal. Heavy metal sounds like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Primal Fear, Accept and others. This is modern prog metal with nu metal or metalcore elements.

Not a cover. Definitely a remix. Honestly, I'm bamboozled in a bad way. I opened this expecting a COVER - which usually implies new vocals and new instrumentalization. This has neither? This is just a guitar remix. It's not bad, but it does feel almost disrespectful to the original artist. Even Content ID recognizes this as Sleep Token.
I respect if you don’t like it man, but you’re saying remixes are disrespectful? Whatever you wanna call it, I made this out of love for the song / artist and believe it or not I only sampled the vocals, everything else I put a lot of work into creating from scratch. I don’t see anything disrespectful about that? Maybe if I had it titled the video “How Sleep Token should’ve done DYWTYLM” - now THAT would be insulting.
