okay ya know what? thanks for putting that in words cuz i was struggling to find it. its always weird to switch singers and sometimes it doesnt work, like when AA replaced danny but this track works for the exact reason you mentioned: you can still hear stephen's influence in the track. i was super iffy about matty cuz i've been out of the loop and didnt know he had replaced stephen so my brain went "oh no anberlin is gonna sound like memphis may fire but it really just still feels like anberlin and thats great.
I dont hear Stephen at all but thats probably because Stephen is the most unique singer ever, so its an impossible feat to accomplish properly.
Genuinely listened this song more times than i can count. So happy for both Matty and the rest of the band.

The New old Anberlin is back.
Anberlin has been consistently not missing since 2002. I don't have enough words to describe how great they are. Always innovating their sound but they're still able to retain their original identity. Even with a change in vocals they are still able to put out that "Anberlin sound" so consistently. God bless these guys

I'm a casual fan of Memphis May Fire, and knew the name when I saw Matty Mullens. This is one of their stronger singles. I think Matty is gonna be a good vocalist to take the torch from Stephen. I'll love Stephen forever, but I'm excited for the Matty Mullens era.

Sounds like 2024 radio rock, for good and for bad. I can definitely hear it's Anberlin back there instrumentally, but on first listen, I didn't realize this was them at all... it sounds so unlike anything they've made before lyrically and with that vocal line.

Not going to lie, I will definitely be missing Stephen's voice, and it won't be quite the same for me without him. But as different as they are, I am definitely enjoying these new songs, and I'm glad to see the rest of the band getting to continue on. Maybe Stephen will put out some bew solo stuff in his spare time, so we can have the best of both worlds.

Mid. Matty can emulate the old school grit, but the complex poetics is what made Anberlin. The resonance that Stephen Christian put into a unique line in an elegantly written song, hits.
