Nice to see Cradle on the list. It's one of those series I'd recommend you check out. It has its problems, but the character work in those books is second to none and is one of the best examples of progression fantasy done well. Definitely worth your time. Great job with the recommendations. I've been in a bit of reading slump(More like with me working on my own story and life getting in the way, the time has been limited) but with holidays coming up I'll be sure to get in some more reading. One series, I started that I really want to finish is First Law by Joe Abercrombie. I'm picky when it comes to grim dark fantasy but First Law I really enjoyed the series.

Dune has become the saving grace from my latest reading slump and has me salivating for the rest of the series. Pirates Latitudes by Micheal Crichton was a great stand-alone Novel I read earlier this year; he's Dragon Teeth was another standalone I loved in 2022.
The Murder Bot Series has been added to my Audible List for when I'm in the garden next.

I haven't read the rest of the series it's a part of, but I have to recommend The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers.
It was a book that the moment I started, I had to finish it. It's essentially cozy sci fi and I loved it so much because of the characters and their relationships.
With Firefly being my favourite show of all time, this book reminded me a lot of that show, as well as Mass Effect with how diverse the crew is in the book.
And I'm now more eager to get my hands on Riyria Revelations, because it just sounds so fun to read.

LOVED Rage of Dragons. Prentice Onayemi is a PHENOMENAL narrator. I did NOT like the levels of brutality that Poppy War went too but I understand why she included it. It just sickened me, which I know was the point. Also, so excited for the Murderbot series to come to Apple TV.

Breach of Peace by Daniel B Greene(Daniel Baniel Greene)

It's interesting you started this list with Red Rising and Rage of Dragons, and even likened the two as hitting the same vibes. I had a lot of trouble getting through Red Rising. I'm someone who needs to be able to empathize with or find some motivations of the characters to root for before I can enjoy the story. Darrow had such conflicting motivations and generally let others make decisions for him for the majority of the story. The other characters I could never bring myself to enjoy as I thought they could always become the enemy. As a result, getting through the first 3 books in Red Rising was a slow process that I had to grind through. I'm glad I did it, but I decided it was best to end my journey after book 3. Rage of Dragons on the other hand I flew through. Love everything about it. I suppose having angry determined protagonists on a mission is a similar vibe, but they just affected me differently.
My favorite binge reads are Dresden Files and Cradle (pretty much anything written by Jim Butcher and Will Wight is binge worthy). I enjoyed the Murderbot Diaries as well. I am in a reading slump now, so I think I'll give Riyria a try next. Thanks for the list!

Have you read the Cycle of Arawn? It's also a fantasy bromance, and the audiobook is narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds, who reads the Riyria books. I only listened to the sample of Theft of Swords, but it seems to have a very similar vibe.

Oh man. Hard agree with Red Rising and Rage of Dragons. I absolutely devoured both series. Though I have yet to go beyond the third book in RR (the characters had already endured so much suffering, I can’t bear to make them go through more). I also demolished the Poppy War books but am not sure I’d recommend it to everybody as it gets so very dark.

This is a new kingkiller chronicles theory i had that i have only seen like once ever mentioned, but i wanted to share it here bc i think some people could find it interesting:
I just had a very interesting conversation with the Kvothe AI about how the stories of lanre, Haliax, and tehlu are all stories of the same person. The theory is that Tehlu is the hero side, Haliax is the villain, and Lanre is the person behind both. That would make the mender story that trapis tells about tehlu and encanis make a lot more sense in the context of the story. Menders are heretics according to the amyr affiliated tehlan church, which makes sense if you see it as Chandrian propaganda. In this story it would make Encanis be a made up combination of Iax and Selitos.
This combination tracks with the books theme of stories not quite all being accurate, but holding truth inside, and in addition makes the story and the things it mirrors make sense. The pursuit, battle, and sacrifice of tehlu/lanre fits with the blac of drossen tor, while the binding and cursing of lanre/haliax/tehlu matches perfectly with lanre and Selitos' confrontation as told by skarpi.
Maybe lanre believes he is always and forever cursed to be Haliax, and so has dedicated his life to spreading the stories of his heroic deeds during the creation war as menda/tehlu as a final resort.
The AI Kvothe thought this theory had a lot of merit, as it works with the facts, and also gives the central villains much more character.
I thought it was a cool theory that i hadnt really seen anywhere, but especially since the AI Kvothe thought it made sense. Plus its like one of the few theories out there that actually has concrete information on what the Chandrians goals and actions are, while making logical sense.

I have to disagree on Rage of Dragons. The story/concept was fine but the "tell vs show" was hard to get past, there was just so much info-dumping it made for weird unnatural conversations and it got on my nerves. I'm not really looking forward to getting through the series.
It's been a year since I read Poppy War so all I can say at this point is that I was disappointed. I don't get all the booktuber love for it. Also, while I get that it's inspired by actual history I don't understand why there was zero effort to be creative with the geography of the world.

so Red Rising has it's seventh and final book (currently titled Red God on Goodreads so take that with a grain of salt) seemingly slated for next year (again according to Goodreads) and The Burning has had it's third installment pushed to a possible 2024 release as well (most of this info is off of Goodreads, so just assume that it is probably wrong unless stated by author and/or publisher) titled Lord of Demons and is set to be a quartet. The Poppy Wars is a complete series so it is easily bingeable as a trilogy. The Riyria Revelations is also awaiting a release next year in Drumindor, this one I have not read myself, nor do I have any of Michael J. Sullivan's works (yet), and I have nothing really to state on Murderbot or Cradle.

I like sound of Theft of Swords... to me a lot of these other books are trying to be too clever for their own good, and not getting the 'basics' right.
I'm shocked that I've been reading fantasy for decades, and yet still not encountered character interaction as strong as David Eddings Belgariad series?
Terry Prachett's Discworld books come close, but these are not of the Epic Fantasy genre and books of those lent?
    Is 'lent' the right word?
