    New subscriber here. Binge watching your great vids Tony (never been in Spain do far; have a business trip for 2 weeks starting April 8th - Zaragoza included!)
    Cudos for the great content, you don't even have the slightest idea how much help and head-ups I got from you channel!
    Schengen update:
    Romania and Bulgaria have formally joined -- at least partially -- Europe’s visa-free Schengen travel zone as of March 31 2024.
    As of midnight, there is now free movement for those arriving and departing on flights and by boat to both countries, but not by road. That’s because Austria objected, arguing opening land routes to both Romania and Bulgaria could make it easier for migrants to enter other EU states.

    I just came back from Spain and customs/ immigration didn’t ask me for anything. They just looked at my passport, looked at me and stamped. The lines were very long so I guess they just wanted to move the line. I’m glad it was that way but I had all my documents in order just in case.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, you will go through immigration in Paris. Make sure you allow for sufficient time, we went to passport control in Paris last month and it was a shambles, endless queues and many people not making it to their connecting flights as a result.

  • @alanwheeler3696

    Another great video. The 10 years passport validity rules from UK are a little strange. It cannot be more than 10 years old at date of entry, but it can go over the 10 years whilst in Spain providing it is valid for 3 months after your date of leaving. As the years move on this will become less of an issue as the UK passport office no longer issues them for longer than 10 years, but it’s going to take a good few years!

    Thank you very much. What if I arrive for 10 days but will spend 7 of them on a cruise from Barcelona...will it affect the sufficient funds requirement?

      Same question here Tony. Staying three days in Barcelona then 7 day cruise then one day back in Barcelona. How does this work ?

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tricky question. It all depends on the itinerary of your cruise. If you are sailing along the Spanish coast, the funds requirement will apply. If you are traveling to other countries, theoretically you should meet the requirements of the countries your are visiting, proportional to the number of days spent in each one of them.

    Thanks for your wonderful channel. Your advice is well taken. We will be leaving for our trip later this week. We will be flying into/out of Madrid from the USA (NYC) but will be renting a car as we leave Madrid, driving through the north of Spain and then on for a few days in Porto, Portugal before returning to Madrid for a brief stay prior to our return to the USA. Are there different requirements we should be aware of in crossing from Spain to Portugal and back with a rental car?

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Andrew, there are no permanent border controls between Spain and Portugal. Your only concern is to let the car rental company you intend to take the car across the border.

    Thanks Tony for the informative video. May I ask a question regarding passport. If I'm not mistaken as a foreigner in Spain by law I have to carry my passport all the time, but many youtuber advise to leave the passport in the hotel (if it is safe to do so) and just bring a photocopy of the passport. I'm wondering what is your advice on this? Thanks

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello Teddyanto, a photocopy of your passport is not valid proof of ID so basically, what those YouTubbers are advising you to do is to leave the hotel undocumented. If you plan on making purchases for which you intend to claim the Tax refund, they will only accept the original airport. Your passport is as safe in an internal pocket of your clothes as it is in your hotel safe. However, if you don't want to take out your passport (with the exception of the Tax Free situation) you could always bring your original ID card, if your country issues one. That would have you covered in terms of carrying a form of ID.

    We’re loving your videos. But have a confusion. We’re (US passport) Traveling via TAP from Chicago to Madrid connecting in Lisbon; airline customer service over phone confirmed that in Lisbon we’ll just transfer to the next flight in same terminal; our immigration and customs would be done at Madrid. This conflicts your information that it should happen at first airport in EU which in our case would have been Lisbon. Appreciate if you could verify. We have 150 mins at Lisbon during inbound and 90 minutes on return connecting time and hence are concerned if this will be sufficient. Thanks for all the other information.

Like would the Birth certificate of my grandfather, Mother, and mine be enough?
