The Mage made a misplay. They summoned and pinged 1 mana elemental instead of one mana Shudderwock, they could have got a third pack and even more value
Honestly it's super petty but the lyra VO change is part of why I stopped playing. Sure, the meta sucks but at least elise and lyra are fun to goof off with. Playing it now just makes me sad. :/
This game taught me a few things... 1) How bonkers was that mage's frozen champion cards! Shudderwock into Shadowdancer? Thank goodness Kibler could kill the Shadowdancer, otherwise he was looking at 3 Shudderwocks + 3 elementals each turn (though, realistically, with Shudderwock's battlecries adding so many cards to hand it would've been unlikely that they'd have room to self-ping the 'Wock and thus get it back). Keeping in mind, of course, that the hero power would likely refresh each time Frost Lich Jaina gets replayed. 2) How bonkers is Shudderwock in general? Mage's amazing use of it makes it seem now more than ever that the only reason it isn't more competitive is because it's in shaman.
All respect to HS streamers, but honestly Kibler is no doubt the best HS streamer, he is just the best at everything. winning, losing, commenting on stuff, play style. i don't play HS that much, but I'm sure I've watched Kibler way too much compared to it.
What is the point of running two shieldblocks in the deck if you don't wanna draw cards? I know they help with shield slam and reckless flurry. but given the upgraded hero power, couldn't they be replaced with something else?
Ok, can somebody please tell me what happened at 15:04. Shudderwock was linked to the matriarch still it did not die when shudderwock died. Is this because that card is programmed poorly and sonja adding it back to the hand means it technichally hasn't died yet? Or does it have to do with shudderwock jank? Please answer if anyone has any idea. Also just saw that the same thing happened at 18:08
Voodoo Dolls battlecry reads: "Choose a minion" but it also has a deathrattle which reads: "Destroy the chosen minion". Shudderwock has no such deathrattle so it basically only chooses a minion and that's it.
Yeah, basically. The battlecry of Voodoo doll is just "Choose a minion.", so the only thing that Shudderwock does is basically point a finger at a minion.
He also had Lyra. I wonder why there aren't more Mage decks with her... But seriously, there was so much crazy randomness in that game that I don't really think you should try to learn anything from it.

Noob question: why mage used two frost novas on empty board? He was sure that the card won't be necessary so just used it whenever possible to free the hand?
Brian's deck is a defensive control style deck that doesn't have a lot of pressure to put onto the opponent. The enemy mage's deck was wack but was really successful in the matchup solely because it had a lot of value and Brian's deck had value but still some removal stuff. The fact that the mage ran glyph's meant they weren't running dragon's fury, which is a very strong card when versing an aggressive deck. Had Brian been playing something like even paladin, the mage would have had to use the frost novas, but would probably have lost due to the mage's poor defensive tools. Similar to Brian's explanation as to why he was trying to rid his hand, the mage wanted to do that as well to get some more value off of Elise and such. Although to be honest other than the town crier misplay Brian played well but just got really, really unlucky with that Shudderwock.
In most control matchups ( Except maybe Warlock ), you don't really need a frost nova. It's there because you need something to stall the board so you can safely play doomsayer vs aggro
Since the game was certainly going to fatigue and both players knew it, having actual resources that do something in hand is important. Mage knew frost nova wasn't actually going to do anything of value that game. In a normal deck without Elise, you may hold on to them in the unlikely event you can find a use but with Elise, you want to be at 4 or 5 cards when you pop open the pack. For that reason, pitching the novas when you have the mana and nothing else to do was a smart play.
anyone know a reason why it wouldnt be better to save the 2nd elise to reset fatigue later in game? i get that it puts a 5/5 in, but resetting fatigue seems strong
It doesn't reset fatigue? If your at 5 damage fatigue, put a card in your deck, then draw it, the next turn fatigue will pick up where it left at and do 6 damage.
Why play the reckless flury at 13:28 an not just wait one turn? isn't it better to let him chip away at that armor a little bit more and maybe develop something (he probably wont't) but still.
You're right. Control decks are often about holding your nerve and managing your board clears. However, I think Kibler may have thought that his opponent just wouldn't be able to create enough threats to justify holding onto Flurry.
I (probably) would have held it.. but then again i'm just a level 15 that mains hunter because i can' t craft any deck without any dust to make decent cards😓 Getting meta decked bij cube locks that have a voidlord in play on turn 6 nearly everytime is not very.... fun...

they are always generated lol. Generated means you havent got it in your deck at start. What you are trying to say is summoned

These last couple games on TH-cam have been phenomenal. Love it!

Frost Lich Jaina was not replayed by Shudderwock. Shudderwock only replayed it's battlecry which is "summon a Water Elemental".
