Very important. I personally feel like a lot of people use the fear of God interchangeable with faith in God . Those kind of people definitely dangerous .
Here is what I got from this excellent pre-marital training video are. I am a single woman, and I sincerely appreciate how he outlines the four qualities we must look for in a devout Christian man before marriage:
1) GOD FEARING: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Read: Proverbs 9:10
Ask: Are you right with God? This will reveal his heart.
2) SUBMITTED TO EARTHLY AUTHORITY: Accountability is key here! This man has people (mentor, friends, spiritual leader) in his life who counsels him and can vouch for him, his values, and his purpose.
Read: 1Peter 5:5
Ask him: Who provides you with counsel, mentorship, or spiritual guidance? Can I meet him or them?
3) LOVES & HAVE PASSION FOR YOU: This is beyond physical appearance; your inner and outer beauty gives him deep unexplainable contentment, and yet you can maintain self-control. Your being occupies his heart, but he will not awake your love unless he's ready to make you his wife. He is attracted to you but not in a lustful way.

Ask: Do you love me, passionately? What keeps your passion for the things you love?
4) DEMONSTRATION OF RESPONSIBILITY: He is aware of the cost dimensions of life. He has a can-do attitude versus a recipient attitude. He knows his place as the head of the household. An overpampered man expects his wife to pick up where his mother or housemaid stopped. Often they're lazy; he has never really lived alone or had to pay bills. He also might be a job hopper, doesn't know his purpose in life, and make juvenile excuses for his lack of growth and development. He's just not prepared for marriage.

1. God fearing man, faith filled, born again but not God fearing must have reference of God. Men should summit to the ways of God in all matters. You must train up your child, not live with them only show them.
2. Must summit to authority an elder, pastor, mentor. You are safe. Must receive wise counsel. He must show you the authority figure in his life. He must be accountable to someone.
3. Must have passion for you. If he has no passion for you he will be unfaithful to you. .
4. Never marry an irresponsible man. Some men have been over pampered. Irresponsiblity leads to lazzyness . The willingness to press beyond comfortableness.

Yes the man I loved , whom I meet in church and married. As soon as I married he changed, stole from me, dragged my name through the mud, tried to tear down everything I accomplished. Then when I could not provide for him anymore , he beat me and set me on fire. God spared my life. Lord I wish I could have had this teaching from my pastor.
