  • This year, I used the Specialized Tarmac SL8 with Enve 4.5 carbon road wheels for the LOTOJA Classic race. This is part two in a series of answering the questions, are deep wheels REALLY faster or is it circumstantial? Over the next few weeks, I'll be swapping the Enve 2.3 and Enve 4.5 wheels on the Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 as a real-world comparison of which wheels are best.

    That bike is supermodel beautiful with the Enve 4.5 wheels. Just gorgeous. You have to give her a name.

      Sirius Black seems to fit.

    Still rocking the Reserves 40/44 and 52/63. I find the ultra wide wheel with gp5000 30c an amazing combo in all conditions.

      Heck ya! They’ve been on my crux since shortly after France. Love those wheels!

    I’ve a set of 2.3s laced onto Chris Kings on my Ti endurance. Mainly chosen for insane cross winds around the Golden Gate (bridge and terrain) and coast, but I love them more than I expected. They remind me of rim brake feel. I’ll be interested to hear your take when part 3 comes out.

      Sounds like a great setup. I have yet to ride a set of Chris King hubs, but have heard great things…

      @@outdoorbros_ they’re my first. Happily quieter than I expected, but I think the real bonus of the CKs will likely be longevity, and maintenance. I’m sure the enve hubs are great too.

    Nice, I can't wait to see what you have to say about the 2.3 wheelset.
    I have a set of Zipp 303 & 404.. I find myself on the 303's about 90% of my riding, I don't feel like I'm missing or needing the extra depth on the 404's ever. I do throw the 404's on about once a week (if I remember to) for the superfast TT group rides and try and hold those higher speeds a bit easier. If I'm doing my training or just fun rides .. 303 all the way, and living in flat Florida, I thought it'd be the opposite coming from my hilly/mountain riding from out west.

      No doubt, I’ve been really surprised by the more shallow depth. They’re just so lively.

    Love this Video! I'm in between the 4.5 and 3.4 which would you pick for a guy that likes an all round set?

      All around, I’d go 3.4.

    I was looking at these 4.5s or the Reserve 40|44s for a mix of road and gravel. I live in the PNW for context, I like the look of both since they are a bit more subdued

    I prefer the roval clx II on my Sl8 SW with the Vittoria corsa pro. Perfect for climbing here in Switzerland

    Never used the 2.3 but have the 3.4Ar (basically same as current gen 3.4) and current 4.5 and previously had the last Gen 3.4 with narrower IW and hooked rims. 4.5 feels faster but not by a lot. 4.5 is More susceptible to crosswinds so if I could only have one wheelset year round including winter when it’s windy it would probably be 3.4AR but other than that situation I would choose 4.5 for fast riding/racing.

    Hi Chris, what kind of tire pressure were you running with the 4.5 and 28mm tire? I have the same setup and have been struggling with the right psi

    • @outdoorbros_
      @outdoorbros_  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With 28's, I consistently ran 60psi.

    Which do you prefer? Enve or Reserves? I'm looking to get a set of quality do it all wheels. Which one would you recommend? Thanks

    • @outdoorbros_
      @outdoorbros_  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They’re both excellent. I could swap between the Reserve and Enve wheels and be completely satisfied on either.

    Anyone tried the Reserve 52/63 on the tarmac sl8? I'm wondering have the clearance is since the rims are 35 and 34mm wide external

    Where's the promised set of data driven videos of wind tunnels and what-not promised at 1:12?
    FWIW, you don't need a wind tunnel to do quantitative A/B testing.
